Since Spartacus showed up on Netflix and I'd never seen it, I'm watching it. Not sure I'm loving it though. Each season seems to be slightly worse than the previous one. They lean on the visual effects and sex pretty heavy, but it can't cover up some questionable writing and acting.

Lucy Lawless looks fantastic.
This is a pretty good description for the show. None of the other seasons villains can come close to Batiatus in season 1. John Hannah does an amazing job with the role. In the prequel season he's younger, less sure of himself as opposed to season 1 and the focus of the show starts to shift more and more to the gladiators and other slaves. The replacement actor for Andy Whitfield (RIP) also did their best in the other seasons but definitely wasn't as nearly as good as Andy.

Supposedly there is a new "What If" style season coming soon with the story told as if Ashur survived. Comes out in a few months I believe although I've been seeing ads for it for months now.
Good to know. I thought Ashur was an interesting character and will look forward to more of his story.

I liked the first episode of Task, but my God what the two guys do at the end of ep1 / beginning of ep2 has to be one of the most stupefyingly dumbest things I’ve ever seen recorded on video, to the point of unbelievability. I might be out already.

Yeah, it gets a little goofy and Sons of Anarchyish but still a decent show. I didn't mind the investment given the 7 episode miniseries. I'd probably be out if this was going 5 seasons.
I just jumped to episode 6, and kind of glad I did seeing as how that dumb thing was still part of the narrative in episode 6. Each episode would have just made me more agitated. Looking forward to episode 7.

We're apparently the outliers to this GOAT level show.

But yeah- that's one of the macro plot elements I was thinking of.
Tbf, they do a decent job wrangling what happens and especially how the characters react given these things... but again, what brought the show down a bit for me. Still enjoy a lot about it and like it overall- definitely worth watching.

ok.. and again, tbf- the way the character is written- as a lovable idiot- I can see him making that idiotic decision at the end of Ep1/2.
Yeah it was a dumb decision but I didn't think, in the moment, it was some wild wholly unrealistic decision as
the kid saw his face, he isn't an evil enough guy to kill the kid, and leaving the kid to find his dead parents probably leads to some Dexter-like ****. That said, taking the kid home seems pretty dumb though realistic as he likely couldn't think straight due to adrenaline and had to do something

I'd note that most of what I do on a daily basis deals with people's dumb decisions so I could be a bit desensitized to the choice.

Lucy Lawless looks fantastic.
Yes, she does. As do nearly every other star in the series. Katrina Law was my personal favorite 💘

Casting director gets an A+++ for the show.

Season 1 with Andy Whitfield (RIP) was the best.
Absolute Smokeshow. She was in a few of the dumb hallmark channel movies my wife likes to watch
Yeah she was my favorite too.
Well next to Sura who was only in the first couple of episodes. I actually went to high school with the actress that played Sura and she was just as beautiful back then.

yeah- had all the same thoughts. bottom line, he's a bad dude... bad enough to take out some bad guys coming at him... but nowhere near bad enough to do what alternatively needed doing that led to his poor choice; the reaction fit the character.

Oh yeah, totally a personal thing for me. Most probably won't care. To me it was akin to a cartoon Yosemite Sam joining the task force. It was just something I couldn't get beyond.

The actors are all great. The actress playing the 21 year old is exceptional. I bought everything else they were selling for sure. Everything felt so real which made the part I hate so jarring.

But yeah, a lot to like here.

Definitely a ton of eye candy all around in the cast. I mentioned Lawless specifically because she was like 42 for the first season. Look as good at 42 I did not.

Xena was definitely rocking it. Viva Bianca as Ilithyia was quite fetching too. I much preferred the first actress that played Naevia but the second one was not too hard on the eyes either.

One of my few "issues" with the show. I have a hard time believing all the women were smoking hot during that time frame. Razers, makeup, hairdryers.....

Not complaining though.

I remember watching the first season of Spartacus and feeling like this was the best show id ever seen. How they did the fight scenes. The mood of it. The story. Just an absolute rock solid first season of a series. RIP Andy. Ya, it slowly went down after that first season, but I enjoyed it all nonetheless. I always wondered if id still enjoy it as much without Gannicus. Just a great character for me. For those having interest in this genre of shows, Spartacus is an absolute must watch.

The first episode of The Chair Company had some laughs but I have to be in the right mood to handle Tim Robinson's brand of social anxiety. I guess I can handle eight half-hour episodes.
loved this.

I HAVE THE WORST PILLOW
Watched this last night when I couldn't sleep based on the comments in here. Wife was asleep but woke up shortly after I started it and watched some with me. Unique show. My wife, who was again half asleep, kept asking me, "is this a drama or a comedy?" and I had no idea what to say.

I'm interested, though. Agree that the viewer probably needs to be in the right mood which, for me, will likely be after ingesting some THC.

The egg :lmao:
You've been in a mall recently and probably didn't even know it. Yes, you have.
I made it as far as that. not my thing.
Could totally see that. I could also totally see not enjoying this show in a particular mood. I still don't even know if I liked it but I'm intrigued enough to watch the second episode.

I can't even watch the trailer for The Chair Company without turning it off --- if the world wasn't about to end I think I might enjoy it but have no need for added uncomfortableness these days lol.

Just watched the trailer and now have no desire to even try the show.

Now The trailer for Task, OTOH, makes me want to start watching right f'n now. (Doesn't hurt that it's put to Wish You Were Here, of course)

Not sure why the trailer is so off-putting. Just watched it and it looks like it could be a good show. Probably give it a shot this weekend.

Black Rabbit is getting a little out of hand in the middle here. Why they throwing in all this extra stuff 😂
Power thru, you're almost there. Last episode is worth it but I agree. Coulda been 6 episodes.
I’m enjoying it…been on flights all day and had been a good time passer. Just don’t get why they mixed in a couple of these storylines. Too much contrived drama when they don’t need it.

Guess that’s why you are saying it could be shorter.

If you're looking for something grounded but a little different - Wayne (a YouTube Original) has been an interesting watch so far. I'm 3 episodes in and it's not like anything I've ever seen before.

At its core it's a road trip movie, with Wayne and his new girlfriend heading down to Florida to right an old wrong and avenge Wayne's dad.

Give episode 1 a try, I think you'll like it.

I'm not sure why there is any controversy here. Tim Robbins has a very specific type of humor, and you either love it or hate it. That should be all you need to determine whether to watch this show.

Task has been so good. That episode last week was incredible. Can't believe it will wrap up Sunday.
Wait, it's not over? I really thought Ep 6 was the finale.

As an aside, I completely dismissed the show from the trailer. I just couldn't see Ruffalo as an FBI agent. I guess I was looking at it in a Krazinski/Jack Ryan kinda way and couldn't wrap my head around it. Turns out they cast the exact right person for that role.

Also, the accent (specifically Robbie) was really more Pittsburghese than rural Philly, no?

Rural Philly doing a bad impression of a yinzer.

One more episode and yeah it’s definitely not a super cop movie. As for accents, beats me I’ve never been to Delco.

I grew up near there (had a 610 area code on my childhood home number, Lehigh County). It’s not bad accent wise. I traveled around all those outside Philly counties for baseball and there are some, let’s say, unique places where one feels the Pennsyltucky pretty quickly.
