Lol...me too probably.

I couldn't get through ABC murders...not bad, but didn't grab me - and didn't like malk.

I loved halt and catch fire. I can see some limitations where it relies and swings into melodrama too much, but loved the quasi-historical element and ultimately cared enough about the characters to enjoy the melodrama. Well written and acted throughout.
i think it grabbed me when it switched its focus and brought what had been the supporting cast into the fore. it's more an ensemble now rather than a rip off of "Mad Men".

We started the Fx series "Pose" the other night. It's good to see these kinds of stories and characters but I simply wish it were better done. I'm not sure how far it can go with the apex of the story for S1 appears to be a dance off.   The acting needs to get better in a hurry for me but it gets at least another episode from me.

A couple eps in, The Hunters feels way too much a Tarantino ripoff and hasn't really found its feet yet. Not bad, and certainly interesting, but not there yet.

this was my takeaway from previews ... it looks utterly ridiculous, rife with that tired "REVENGE PORN!!!1!" trope - i'm not even gonna bother.

Somewhere in the first couple eps, Pacino says "the talmud says living well is the best revenge" a few times. It was soooo clear he'd be saying "revenge is the best revenge" pdq.

Binged the Gabriel Fernandez docuseries on Netflix.  It made me want to put my fist through the wall.  #### everybody involved in that including LA sheriffs and social workers.
This was horrifying.  I didn't think I would watch just due to the subject matter, but I did.     Just horrifying.

Started it last night. Just ok for us partway through the first ep.

I guess I kinda-sorta get that now that you mention it, but not really.....

I'm 6 episodes in and there are a lot of loose ends that I hope get tied up eventually or I will be a little miffed.

So far it's still a solid 7.5/10 for me.  I find the subject matter pretty interesting.  Makes me want to know more about the Nazis, the Jewish genocide and WW2.

Just started Devs on Hulu. Created by the guy that wrote and directed Ex Machina and Annihilation

it is an 8 episode mini series, sci- fi thriller....very interesting so far

Bad thing is, the episodes are released weekly...didn't realize this when I started it

The trailer makes it look more like a Tarantino ripoff than it actually is.  Going in I was expecting something like Inglorious Bastards or Kill Bill.  Has less of that feel to me after watching it.

I thought it was OK, but nothing about it was really great.

I liked the Unabomber series.  I knew the basics of what happened, but it was interesting hearing Kaczynski's own words and getting into his background and motivation.  Not sure you can find two siblings more opposite than Ted and his brother.

Spectrum cable series on the ATL Olympic bombing was similar. Not tip top, but an interesting watch

Three in, and the writers still aping QT too much and relying on weak writing tropes... The kid does yet another thing to #### things up in the most predictable and obvious way just to move plot lines.

I'm ready to bail. If the wife wants to continue, I will.

If you've ever thought to yourself, "I wonder what the ZZ Top guys looked like before the big beards" then ZZ Top: That Little Ol' Band From Texas is for you.

Enjoyed it quite a bit.  I like these docs that show the evolution of bands and their early performances.  MTV hit at a good time for ZZ Top and they embraced the medium.

Side note:  The weather is getting nicer.  I need to stop watching so much TV.

Altered Carbon season 2 is much worse than season 1. I liked the characters in season 1 much better. No hottie Ortega, not enough Poe, none of the other couple. Those characters made the show fun. This season is just plain boring and cookie cutter. I do think the actress who plays Quell is very good though.

Gave up on The Hunters midway through episode 3.

Probably late on this one, I finally got around to Babylon Berlin. Watched the first 2 seasons the last few days.   Nicely done show.

Started Devs...not even sure what network. Partway through the 1st ep and I'm digging it.
Hulu..started it last night. Posted about 12 posts above yours

bad thing (to me) is the episodes are posted every week instead of all at once

was compelling tv. very interesting to hear Ted's voice and explanations.

this was one of those stories where i never thought we'd hear from the perpetrator.

Watched the new Mark Wahlberg flick on Netflix "Spencer Confidential"....he plays a former Boston cop...nothing groundbreaking, but low brow fun.

Alan Arkin was a nice touch.

I’m reading Killing the SS right now

:wheelhouse:

I can’t put it down

You think the brother gets a nice payday for participating?  These docs big business now.

Family movie night again and it was "Captain Marvel". I've been avoiding the Marvel stuff mostly when I can. A GotG here, an Iron Man there, and the first CA only. This one was surprisingly decent but I suspect that's due to the non-Jon Favreau factor. It's a mess in the writing - small army of names with the screenplay confirm this - but the actors do it okay. I still think Spiderman in the Spiderverse is the best Marvel flick to date.

Based on the Robert Parker novels?  Same character as the old tv show Spenser, For Hire?

what i remember of ZZ Top is MTV-era. they were cool looking because of the beards and the videos but the only music of theirs i knew.... was on MTV. and that was sort of commercial shlock and not really my bag.

but i watched this doc anyways because i'd always been curious if there was more to them than Eliminator.

what i learned is that at least 5 - 6 of their songs i grew up hearing all the time, and didn't hate, but never knew were ZZ Top songs. their early blues influenced stuff sounds pretty good. gave me a new found respect for their music.

i really enjoyed watching this. thanks for the note on it.

The novels are quick, excellent PI mysteries.  I've never hated Boston less than when reading that series of novels.
Just read about it on imdb.  My God, not sure Marky Mark could disrespect Bahston heritage less.  COULD be a 10 season HBO series.  Instead he did a 90 minute movie?  Ahhshole.

Family watched JoJo Rabbit. Really good movie. We all laughed many times and my wife went completely silent at the twist.

Finished season 3 of Glow last night. I really liked it. I think it was the best season of the show so far. They've almost completely given up on the comedic elements of the show, but it still works. Many of the punches were telegraphed, but they still landed. Probably the thing that put it ahead of other seasons for me is it felt like this one converted most of the characters from caricatures (much like the wrestling alter egos they took on in the ring) to more fully formed people.
Funny, because it's my least favorite of the seasons. I wrote a whole screed about how woke and overly politically correct it was.

I had trepidation about this season because I read your thoughts on it prior to viewing. I found I didn't notice those things as much as you apparently did, they didn't detract from my enjoyment of the season.

Finally finishing "Halt & Catch Fire". I've come and gone with the show. It's *mostly* pretty good. It figured out what the story was and the right characters to tell the story after S1 ended. The cast is pretty great. As someone who came of age in the series' arc, it is a fair bit of nostalgia.
It's a show that's too slow for some, but I really enjoyed it.

Cool. Glad I didn't spoil it for you.

Hated it because it was so obviously a re-re-tread.

The pinnacle, of course, is Primer. The light version of that movie has already been made, Predestination. In the Shadow of the Moon just did all the same beats, worse. It's plainly obvious where things are going and it's completely exposed where all the corners had been cut. What I really don't like is by the time the sci-fi rules are explained, the movie is over and it doesn't go anywhere with them.

I wouldn't waste the time to see it, and recommend either of the other two movies instead.
Primer is great. Had to watch it a couple times to really follow

Looks like I need to rewatch Primer. I don't remember being blown away like you guys...iirc, I liked it- just not at Kubrick levels.

But I've seen a lot things after the wife goes to sleep while sleepy- so I admit I may have missed the boat.

for fans of the band Chicago, check out the Netflix documentary Now More than Ever: The History of Chicago.

I can never get enough of them horns.

Gf and I just started watching Servant on Apple TV+. Very creepy and interesting psychological thriller (horror?).

watched the first three episodes and wanted to watch more but it was getting late. Will probably watch 1-2 more tonight. Has really kept our attention so far.

Not a movie you can watch and not pay 100% attention to, at least for me.

The Detectorists

Originally watched this on Netflix, now re-watching on Amazon. I could heap a long paragraph of praise on this show, but I'll simply say this: there are plenty of TV shows you could watch, and you're going to feel worse when the show is over. This show always makes me feel good. Funny, bittersweet, and smart. Just a wonderful show.
