Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (23 Viewers)

We subscribe to (deep breath)

Netflix

you tube tv

prime (comes with it but still)

hulu

hbo Max

peacock (I have no idea why??)

nhl tv

Apple TV

Disney plus

espn plus (again no idea why, and I don’t have it bundled with the others)

I get to watch maybe 1.5 hours of tv a night so I have no idea why I’m doing this. Might cancel some today.
We subscribe to NF, Hulu (no commercial version), Prime, Disney + (got the 3 years for 150 deal), ESPN +, and have a full Cable package with HBO (includes Peacock and HBO Max). Need to pair this down after the Comcast contract expires.

I see a lot of Usenet with Radarr and Sonarr in my future.

If you are willing to do a little legwork, you can get many of the streaming services free or at a big discount as they are all competing like crazy for subs. They also don't seem to give a crap about login sharing either, so much cheaper to share across a family too. If they ever crack down on the login sharing, expect a lot of backlash and pirating to go back up.

For instance, I pay for Prime and Netflix. I get HBO Max for free through my AT&T cell plan. I share these with my in-laws who have Verizon and get Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ for free. Verizon just announced their users can get a free 6 or 12 month sub to Discovery+ depending on your cell plan. Apple is giving away 1 year subs to Apple+ if you buy a new iphone. CBS All Access has been giving away free 1 month codes that stack every month for a long while now. A T-Mobile cell plan you can get Netflix for free or discounted.

If you can't utilize some of the cell plans, then look for coupon codes and freebies. Hulu just had a special for 12 months at $2 a month. HBO Max is running a promo for 20% off if you pay for 6 months in advance. Check your credit cards as AMEX just had $20 streaming credits through last December, also some offers like half off HBO Max for 3 months. Easiest thing to do if you have a show you want to watch is signup for a free week or month and binge it and then cancel. It won't be long before they send you an offer to come back for free for a little while once again.

Gonna have to check into my Verizon plan to see about that Discovery+ deal - though not sure they have anything I specifically want to see that I can't get elsewhere

all this does is make a case for single service cable to me

less hassle, less to keep up with, less to worry about expiring, etc.

Certainly an option, I was a cord cutter for years before they even coined a term for it and eventually went back to cable up until last year. Even calling every year and getting Xfinity to not raise my price I am now paying less than half of what I was before with cable.

Also Nothing says you have to sign up for 8 different services. Pick one or two, rotate out occasionally. Most of the cell phone linked services are free until you cancel or change cell provider so I fail to see what the hassle is there. A few minutes of setup and a few mins a month and you can easily juggle multiple services  for more options and still save quite a bit of $$$

Surprised that Showtime's "Your Honor" hasn't been mentioned yet. Bryan Cranston is great as expected. 4 episodes in and the wife and I are really enjoying it.
I'm getting through it and it's certainly good but it hits on a big pet peeve of mine, when the writers take what could be an enormous world and have the entire story weaved among just a few characters.

It just feels lazy and convenient. And for all the talk of "so much tension" it's mostly because the characters are being stupid.

Trial 4

Not my strongest recommendation but if you like true crime docuseries, it's worth a look. A Boston cop is murdered and the subsequent problematic investigation (suspicion of dirty cops involved) result in the quick arrest of a young black man. He's tried 3 times (2 hung juries, then a guilty verdict) before new facts about the crime, the investigation, and the officers involved come to light while he was doing life without parole.

Watched the first two episodes of “White Gold” pretty funny so far.

British comedy about sales guys.

Second episode had me laughing pretty good.

Paid for peacock premium pro for the month and binging Yellowstone, wowza I understand the hype now
This show needs to be added to everyone's list.

It is utterly fantastic. I'd never heard of it prior to these couple posts.

It is absolutely worth getting a month of peacock just to watch it (or even binge it during their free trial).

Turning into one of my favorite shows ever.

Alice in Borderland on Netflix is a pretty intense dystopian action mixed with black mirror scenario. Two episodes in and enjoying it so far. VERY violent.
Finished the 8 episodes and had a good time with this one. Really cool ambiance with the shots of Tokyo completely empty, and it had plenty of story to carry the time in between the games. Watch the trailer and dive in if it seems like it's your style.

Even more than those other goofy shows you love?

I think it has its own thread

Enjoyed it. Not going to win awards but very entertaining. Definitely will watch the next season, if they make one. Need to know what’s driving it all.

We’ve been watching imposters on Netflix, I guess it originally aired on Bravo

its fun and if you like hot Israeli chicks the lead is smoking

There is a Yellowstone thread.. Also, it is a paramount show and my guess is the weekend before the next season they will replay all the previous seasons.

It is our favorite show, hands down.

If someone has the Paramount channel with YoutubeTv, cable,  Hulu Live, etc. it seems like Paramount runs marathons on a regular basis.

I watched the HBO special on Tiger Woods, the first episode has had nothing of real substance for those of us that have followed TIgers life and career. The only real cool part for me was that they showed a lot of the Navy golf course which is real close to wear I grew up and were I still play a lot of rounds out when I visit.

Some series I finished watching recently:

The Flight Attendant (HBO Max) - pretty good, though the inside her head thing got a little stale after a while even though it was executed pretty well. Also, I get it, she's an alcoholic. Not to trivialize the condition or those who suffer from it, but they really beat us over the head with it as a plot device.

The Crown (Netflix) - It was good, not great. Beautifully shot, beautiful sets, beautiful costumes, great acting (except for a couple of exceptions). Bottom line though is I found I just wasn't interested in these people. The thing that stuck with me, if anything, is that It made me wonder more than I already did why Britain continues with this vestigial monarchy thing. Jillian Anderson was distractingly horrible in this. I don't know if she was directed that way (which I doubt given the other performances), but she pretty much ruined every scene she was in, coming across as caricature rather than a character, it made season 4 lesser than the previous seasons. I assume there will be another season or two given at least one, maybe two pretty well known events relating to the family that haven't been covered yet.

Barbarians (Netflix) - This is the recent German mini-series about the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. It was pretty good. Only 6 episodes, so not a time commitment, definitely worth it if you like (violent) historical drama kind of stuff. They stick to pretty much the wikipedia outline of what went on, definitely additional dramatic elements tacked on (it's not a documentary). The production quality is excellent. It's in German and Latin (I think), so be prepared for subtitles if you don't speak those languages. I wonder if there will be (or is) a follow on. I don't know if a German production would want to go farther than where this one ended given how things proceeded after where this one leaves off.
Wife and I finished watching this last night and I have to agree. We thought it was ok. Agree with the "inside her head" tangents getting stale after a while. Also, not sure why they included her co-worker's  (Rosie Perez) story line. It didn't add anything to the story or go anywhere.

For the latter, I figure that's something they'd continue with in a subsequent season. Don't know if there will be one or not.

Are spoiler tags not working anymore with the board upgrade?

Anyway, I figured it was to setup how the big fight in the final episode was resolved.

Counterpart on prime.

Few episodes in and enjoying it.    J.K. Simmons is the lead.     Everytime he is on screen, I just think back to Vern Schillenger/Oz.

Queens Gambit was simply fantastic.

Manhunt Una-Bomber and Deadly Games (Atlanta 1996 Centennial Park bombing) were excellent as well!!

The spoiler tags weren't working, so I made my post pretty generic. Don't think I ruined anything for anybody watching or considering it.

Sorry didn’t mean your post was an issue, I tried to use the spoiler tag to respond and had to redo my post.

There was a character reveal at the very end (that I believe was hinted at in one of the first episodes) that was tied to the Rosie Perez storyline. Without it that reveal would have come out of nowhere as a Deus Ex Machina resolution to Couco’s story. A weak excuse I know, I thought Rosie Perez storyline would amount to much more and maybe tie-in to the main mystery somehow.

Has anyone discussed Tennison on Amazon Prime?  Wife and I watched the first two episodes yesterday and enjoyed it.  It's evidently a prequel to a popular British crime show from the 90's that starred Helen Mirin.
