Just finished “Macgruber” so dumb, but Will Forte kills me.
So awful I love it.  Best sex scenes you will find anywhere. Forte is a talent. I don't care what anyone else says.
If your in a WTF mood, watch this. I added MacGruber to my favorites. I’m twisted but I know there are others out there that will laugh their asses off.

He is very funny…something about his delivery.

I’ve been away from this thread for a couple of years. I need to catch up on some good TV.
From what I’ve read recently, Dopesick is a good place to start?

Perhaps a few recommendations that are on the level of Dopesick that I can start binge watching? Perhaps dating back as far as 2019 - 2022? TY

Did you watch “The Last Man on Earth”?

I’ve also seen Barry mentioned a few times and I’m a big fan of Hader.
What is the general opinion on this?
Also curious to what the opinion around here is on Yellowstone and 1882.

i’m one season into Yellowstone and while it’s a bit cheesy I think I’m hooked. Must admit that the Beth character wears me smooth out, just can’t help but like Costner in this. It’s been just good enough to keep me around.

I tried Barry for a few episodes and couldn't get onto it. Never had any interest in Yellowstone.  Looks like a night time soap opera.

I’m always in for a train heist.
Didn’t we just have the same thing in Solo though?  And in the Madelorian when he killed the sand worm?  Seems like well worn territory.

Look I’m on board for Boba Fett but it’s pretty lazy so far and Boba is way way too altruistic for my liking. He’s a bad guy! Be bad please.

The Witcher - Netflix

Finished up season 2. If I give season 1 an A, which I do, I think season 2 gets no more than a B+, and I'm stretching that a bit. The visuals and world.building were fun. But there wasn't enough actual Witcher. I did not enjoy one aspect of the mage who was working with the elves at all.

Having said that, loved the ending. Will watch season 3. Cavill is really good.

I don't remember much of Solo and the sand worm seems distinguishable.  Anyway, it's well-worn territory for a reason - it's fun.  I've found Boba to be much less enjoyable than the Mandalorian so far, but I still enjoy sitting down and watching an episode.  And I think one of our fellow posters with inside knowledge has said there's some cool stuff coming later in the season.

Finished up Dopesick in two nights. Considering I had back surgery in 1999 and my surgeon just happened to introduce a wonder drug called OxyContin to me after the surgery, this series was like revisiting Satan. It hit a little too close to home. However, that was an amazing 8 episodes of television. Move it to the top of your queue.

9/10

For whatever reason, I like zombie movies, particularly the slower versions.

I was about halfway through Alone (Amazon) before I paused and the X-Ray note said it was made from the same script as #Alive (Netflix), which I watched sometime in the past year.  They both came out in 2020 - #Alive in Korean, Alone in English. I googled around and it's not clear to me whether Alone was made after seeing #Alive or if they just started with the same script at roughly the same time and diverged... weird.  I liked both movies.

Also, both made me think of The Night Eats the World (Amazon), a similar slow zombie movie, this one in French.

Yes.  I am not a huge fan of these first two episodes.  And I actually wish they didn't bring Boba Fett into The Mandalorian at all, nor do I really think this series is necessary.  Having said that, I am told there is some major payoff later in the season.

Did you watch Black Summer? I thought that was really good.
I really enjoyed Black Summer as well - didn't really bring anything original to the table, but was able to consistently create and sustain a terrific amount of suspense on a scene-by-scene basis. Stuff like the camera focusing on the crack under the doorway and me feeling total dread that the shadow of feet would darken it.

The camerawork made the show. The season finale in the airport hangar was intense.

Warrior Wookiee was pretty badass.

The pounding suspense music does a lot of work too.

I really like that show.

Another zombie review... Pontypool, on AMC+ (got a free year when my wife bought a phone - don't bother).

It's a weird one... it spent the first hour or more building dread while showing no zombies at all, just hearing a couple of phone calls and people speculating.  It had a few zombie mechanisms I've never seen before.  The ending was a bit too artsy and confusing for me, but this was definitely worth a watch to see some new things and have a different buildup than usual.

While I'm on a roll... Cargo on Netflix is an Aussie zombie movie with Martin Freeman.  Pretty slow moving for the most part, with another interesting twist in a slower conversion process than I've seen before.  Worth watching.

I finally watched Resident Evil (Amazon) with my daughter... it's really not very good.  Somewhat interesting setup, but the execution was unintentionally silly, and the supermonster thing was just video game stuff, didn't make sense in the movie.

Train to Busan is available on every platform, I think.  When I stumbled on a cheap-looking Korean zombie movie, it's a lot better than I expected it to be... but this has been hyped up so much that it can't live up to expectations... it's just a fun zombie movie with nothing new, not art.

Rampant (Amazon) is a Korean zombie movie that just feels like the crappy version of Kingdom (Netflix).  The setting is cool - zombies in feudal Korea with medieval weapons... and this might have been cool if I hadn't seen Kingdom first.

Singing Midnight Train to Busan while watching is almost as much fun as giving the spiders French accents in Arachnophobia.

Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (Amazon) was fun - some boy scouts who were old enough to not be sure scouts was cool anymore had to rig up some weapons to fight zombies with and save their town.  It wasn't good, but it was fun.

Wyrmwood (Amazon) is an Aussie zombie movie that I watched long enough ago that I've lost most of it, but I remember liking it.  It was completely bonkers, with characters dying all the time and some weird mad scientist stuff and some zombie mind control - it felt a bit like Z Nation at times.

Oh yeah, Cockneys vs. Zombies (Tubi and Pluto) is way better than it should be.  Super slow, super dumb zombies are pretty fun, and it sets up a great conflict between nursing home residents and zombies, with the world's slowest chase scene.  Definitely worth watching for the silliness.  I watched it with my daughter and she was really surprised at how much she liked it.

Just finished Season 1 of The Righteous Gemstones on HBO. Pretty ####in hilarious. Definitely recommend. Walton Goggins is brilliant.

Season 2 starts soon. Can’t wait.

Literally watching it right now and this 9th episode is awful. Ruining the season and show.
At least the final episode was better. Not crazy about where they took the plot last episode, but it wrapped up nicely.

Highly recommend giving Mayor of Kingstown a watch (Paramount+)

I just started Ravenous (Netflix), a French fast-zombie movie, then realized I’ve seen it before, and it left no impression on me other than some weird stack of furniture in a field.  I turned it off.

The Mutant Chronicles (Amazon)… I’m really surprised I had never heard of this movie.  Ron Perlman is the biggest name, but it was a decent cast all around. It’s like a Dirty Dozen zombie movie where they have a mission to go destroy the hive.  The zombies are weird, though, and conversion requires them dragging a person back to the hive.  The movie was visually striking - it had the look of 300 but with steampunk stuff set in the future, and the visuals alone were worth watching the movie for.

Blood Red Sky (Netflix) is a vampire movie, but more of the 30 Days of Night style than the Twilight type… which pretty much makes it a zombie movie. It was interesting. The main female character’s story was pretty rough, and making it something that might possibly be curable is neat.  Worth the time.

binging a lot of K-Dramas in general lately

Hospital + Playlist (2 seasons) - recommend if you think Grey’s is a good show

Vincenzo - 20 episodes....did you like The Sopranos? Goodfellas? Godfather I & Is? Good, you should..This is about a Korean Italian consigliere of the Mafia visiting his birth country. It probably seemed like a good idea.
Itaewon Class (1 season, 16 episodes, Netflix)

Good character development & plot driven. My one compliant about K-drama is often characters are flat. They do a good job filling in backstory through flashbacks. Every episode has a hype ending that leaves you wanting to fire up the next one. Just finished e9.

Found this on Reddit & it’s spot on:

Itaewon Class has a lot of things most dramas don’t have-

1.    diversity and representation - LBTQ+ and different races (this is the first K-drama to have an American cast member)
2.    Parents that support their kids
3.    Moral codes
4.    Good acting
5.    Good female characters- Four hardworking female executives, out of which one is a sociopath, one is a trans woman, one is an older woman, one is a younger woman
6.    Though driven by revenge you never think that the hero stoops down to the level of the villain(s) The villains(s) are humanized somewhat and have actual reasons for their actions
7.     Itaewon Class has a cohesive plot- it’s a bullied kid’s revenge, two orphans work hard to make it in the restaurant industry on opposite sides, an ex con figures out his life has value, etc
8.    There’s a lot of themes that are explored-power, money, family, love, race, bullying, sexuality, etc.
9.    The main character is someone I identify with- it’s rare to find someone that means what they say
10.    The female lead is not a Mary Sue nor a damsel in distress
11.    Neither of the female leads need to be rescued- they both make their own choices and save themselves
12.    None of the characters are perfect-they are all flawed

Dawn of the Dead 2004 (Peacock) - I had high hopes.  It has higher-than-average ratings for a zombie movie, probably a decent budget, and Zack Snyder can make really interesting looking movies.  However, this was just another zombie movie - nothing new or surprising, it didn't look that great, the effects weren't all that good.  I'm not saying it was a bad zombie movie, it just didn't stand out at all.
