Thought is was boring with nothing really interesting
So like every other season
I'm sure you both would love Night Agent.
I actually thought this season was better than the other two. I didn't really care for the other two seasons as it just seemed to go nowhere. I kept waiting for something to "happen".

It's hard to explain but I always felt like it seemed to want to do something but then at the end of every episode I was disappointed. I kept waiting for it to be better and it never got there.

The season seemed to be more entertaining.

Adolescence: Good stuff. Stephen Graham was remarkable. One scene in particular at the end of the 4th episode when he broke down sobbing in his son’s room was a flawless performance.
The single shot stuff….was cool..I suspect there was some AI editing work at play during some of the long slow pan shots. But what do I know.

White Lotus: This may not have been the best season but this show pulls you in completely by the end of the 1st episode. That security guard for example. It was weird how I was manipulated into being invested into his character.

Mobland. It’s early, but I love this show!

If you're big on "plot" and "action," White Lotus is not that kind of show. It's a character study that happens to have murder(s) every season.

Starting the final season of the handmaid's tale today. Read both books and am excited to see how they wrap this one up and move towards "the testaments". This thing has been both must see tv for me and almost unwatchable at times (some of the scenes and subject matter causes me visceral anger), but it's held my attention very well throughout. Also just finished "the leftovers" so I'm getting a double dose of Ann Dowd who I'm a big fan of 👍

She's so good in both those.

My biggest fault in the show is it makes me hate Yvonne Strahovski, who is one of my Hollywood crushes

lol... also really good in this.

my biggest problem is the plot moves mostly on June doing really obviously stupid stuff.

but it's a good, albeit hard watch.

Yes, there's definitely some issues i could take with some of the plot mechanics, but i enjoy the show so i can overlook a lot of that.

I don't mind character studies and seeing how things evolve. I have a hard time describing my disappointment with this show. I want it to be better. I want to like it more. I can see the quality in acting and it is visually stunning. But as a TV show it just falls a bit flat when all is said and done.

Maybe I can sum it up with this example. In high school we had to read various literature and were always asked about what we thought the author was trying to symbolize or what further meaning the author had. I always wanted to give a response of "maybe the guy just wanted to write an entertaining story and there was nothing more to it and everyone trying to find meaning are just wasting their time. The story is just a story". I feel White Lotus is the opposite. There is no story for just the story so it falls flat. It's all about some made up hidden meaning or bigger statement and you spin your wheels trying to figure it out and in the end the jokes on me.

While I somewhat get your point/view on the flip side there's a lot to think on or enjoy or relate to with this show (IMO):

I'll put it in spoiler's just in case....
  • Gary/Belinda - maybe the nicest, most relatable person in the show takes blood money - how would you react in that situation? I think I would react very much like she did, although I'd like to think I wouldn't
  • Rick - being consumed by something and despite your best intentions you can't let it go. It ultimately did ruin his life
  • Aimee Lou - the eternal optimist - life can suck sometimes and you die early.
  • the trio of blondes - how sincere they were at the end I can't say but life-long friendships like that are truly much more important than fame or jobs or trips
  • Tayme - imposter syndrome
  • Jason - type A ******* who let things go too far. And that and his son almost dying is the only thing that could save him
  • Sarah - this one really hit home. She so badly wants to do good for the world and her fellow human but damn is it tough to sign up for it if you have to suffer
  • Sam - jerking off your own brother just to be a people pleaser - that's going the extra mile! Ok, I got nothing here - that's just ****ing weird

The show is about the human condition and has so many relatable moments in addition to the beauty of it.

I get the idea and I do like to ponder situations and how I would react and what I think people should do. I enjoy shows that make you think.

My previous description is trying to put into words how this show disappoints me. So while there are the things you described overall it just doesn't succeed in the story telling for me. Something is missing and it has been for all three seasons. I thought this was the best of them but still not quite there (for me)

I agree with both sides. I absolutely love this show as I feel there is nothing quite like it these days. In one aspect, it's very real in that you can probably see people you know in multiple characters each season. I enjoy really getting to know everyone, their personalities, their faults, their desires and seeing how their decisions affect what happens. I was fascinated by Ethan and Harper's relationship in S2, to the point of getting frustrated with how they just would not communicate with each other, but that feeling means it's successful writing.

Same with the girls for S3, we all have those life long friends with flaws that we still love (for better or worse). Sure, I wanted them to blow up and really go at it at times, but they way it played out also made sense. Overall this season I felt invested in more characters than usual and could not wait to see where things went. However, I definitely understand Gally's point of view, which I think is where a lot of the online discourse comes from. We want things to go in a direction or we want closure, but I think the sooner people let that go and just go for the ride, the more enjoyable the show is. For me, it's a very personal experience and what I take from it is almost always related to something in my life, but that could be very different from what others take from it.

How much do you guys love your brother - I mean, do you REALLY love him? ;)

same for me... and I haven't watched S3.

I've previously talked about my general distaste for "seeing how the other 1% lives type" shows, which was a major stumbling block for me with S1 and 2. I did enjoy the insanity of S1- particularly the hotel manager, but found myself wondering about the rest and just not that into it.. so I kinda mirror your disappointment without really being able to pinpoint it (past the $$ aspect). S2 did next to nothing for me. But at the same time, I see how well it's made and acted, I just don't care about the human condition they're specifically portraying here, even if done well.

Finished it up last night, would agree with my brohamas, not terrible.
Watched. It was ok. I did fast forward a couple time, like during his songs.
Just curious. Why would champions fight if the armies are just going to fight anyway?
my lady and i laughed when they had the story by whoever in the credits and i said isnt the story by god take that to the bank brochachos

Ann Dowd was great in The Leftovers. That scene with her and Kevin Garvey and the well was just riveting.

Agree, she's fantastic and that was a great scene.

Finished season 3 finale of White Lotus. Let me start by saying I enjoyed the season. Its not for everyone, but I enjoyed the story telling of it. The finale was meh. Save the final 10 minutes it wasn't what I was wanting.

Just watched the first 2 seasons of Twin Peaks. The impact of the show is now dulled by there being so many similar shows over subsequent years. When Twin Peaks was released it was like nothing else before it.

But it still holds up. Season 1 is very good. Season 2 is still too long with too many extraneous episodes and characters and writers/producers. The ending is still awesome. And there are still some great characters.

Anyone watching Extracted where people are left out in the wilderness and they have a team of relatives who have to decide when to bring them back? I've watched a few episodes. Not much on reality TV any more but this is a nice twist.
Started it up. Hard to believe that one turned into a cannibal after only 2 days.

A few minutes into Ep 2.

3 possible immediate 'easy outs' or they would like to seem.
- 1 girl just sits there saying she thought it would be on a beach with others. No shelter, no effort, and upset she has to go to the waterfront for free supplies. Friends knew it was a lost cause going in. Thought she would have been the first to go, but was wrong.
- Dude that just laid there exhausted because he exerted energy sitting down. No shelter. Drank up the lake water unboiled because he was too wore out to build the fire. Shirt off and just laying around - going to get exposure if he doesn't throw up constantly and get pulled for dehydration.
- 18 year old 'model' talking tough going in, but is multi-millionaire QB Tony Banks' son - ie, spoiled. We just know that he was dying to brag to all his friends and social media that he's on a TV show. Lost his {bleep} over the smashed fishing wire and quit on himself immediately. Momma is going to lay into his ear about being disrespectful instead of thankful for everything he got in the supply crate (Yelling who's the idiot?? over and over - and it's his momma). Definitely edited in all the wrong lights as a clueless, immature, coddled, and angry young man. Sorry bud, no Xbox in the jungle. First to go.

Really surprised the producers let an 18 year old attempt it.
These are all amateurs and not camping for fun people. Nice set-up.

- One dude got a nice shelter in place, the envy of the control room. Went to work immediately.
- Lady that is going to get married to the outdoorsy family seems like one to root for. She wants to make an effort to fit in. Fire is not her friend yet.
- We already have our villain family looking to hoard supplies and screw over others for the $$. On day 1...

----

After Ep 5:
The game is not about survival, the weak ones are mostly gone.
The game has flipped on the family/friends at headquarters and puts them through mental/emotional tests against each other.

This is definitely not 'Alone'.
After episode 8:
Really glad they got rid of the 'sleeping all day and night, won't go in the water, or do anything guy' with the aggressive family.

Gotta hate it when they pick / team up on the leaders.
1 had 5 straight empty supply boxes, the other had 7 straight empties. They were both making due anyways. Meanwhile other teams were getting supplies/food every time.
Now... the latest twist was that they had to give back valuable assets - 4 items each (assets like their tarp, sleeping bag, fire making, tools, etc).
Lost one of the decent ones. Bummer.

Targeted again after losing 4 items... up to 6 and 8 straight empties.

4 teams remain in the battle of sympathy earners/haves and the survivalists/have nots.

First Black Mirror episode was pretty good. The irony of this showing on a streaming service that recently added ads in addition to premium pricing…

Canada's Ultimate Challenge Season 3 is nearing the finale.
The latest challenge is a physical doozy.
4 teams of 3 people remain.

On the country's 2nd oldest racetrack, run 3 laps (3x 2.5miles) 7.5 miles. Most of the competitors haven't run that far. The track has loads of turns and incline/decline. But just running would be too easy.

They have to push a 10ft angled cart (with no lips/grips on the front/sides) around the track. Lap 2 they add 8 tires. Lap 3 they add 8 more tires (16 total). Push all that weight, keep the cart straight, and keep the tires from falling - dripping buckets of sweat and cramping. There's even a speedbump on the decline which will obviously bounce tires off - hard to slow the cart down. Chasing runaway tires is no fun when they are already exhausted.

1hr 51min for first team to finish. 3hr for last place.
Grueling.

And I thought an earlier challenge of transporting hay bales through mud and stacking them upwards seemed tough. Nope.

I enjoyed episode 2 of mobland.

This is supposed to be how Ray Donovan was originally supposed to go
Yeah, they started out as making a Donovan origin story but decided to make it it's own thing instead. Would have been fun as a Donovan origin but I'm sure it's good anyway. On my list, after Pitt, White Lotus S3, Hacks S4, etc.

In my opinion, The Pitt was the best season of television I can remember. Lock for a first round pick in a best season of television draft without question. It better win as many awards as it will clearly be nominated for.

I'm already annoyed it's not going to be on next week.
I read that season 2 is going to take place on a festive holiday weekend.

You guys convinced me to start up "the pitt" next. Sounds really good from the reviews here.

Watched the first 3 episodes of "the handmaid's tale". Definitely lost some of it's fastball compared to the early seasons. Still enjoy it and am interested in how they wrap it up. Lots to cover with 7 episodes left.

is this the last season of Handmaid?

what kind of hijinx will June get into this season, I wonder? jump into a pit of spikes instead of walking to the deli as planned, see a bull charging her and hold her ground for the impaling.... just because.

eta: crap... I hope those don't turn out to be spoilers. I'll edit if needed.

:lmao:

Yes last season. I wouldn't be shocked at a pit of snakes or charging bulls at all. Commander Lawrence's latest stroke of genius, an Indiana Jones style scavenger hunt for the rights to New Bethlehem.

It's getting rave reviews. I never watched partly because people say it really got bad as it went on, but with this highly praised a final season I may give it a watch.

First 3 seasons were really good, really hard to watch, but like a train wreck you couldn't look away from. Later seasons meh. I'm pot committed at this point and have to see how it wraps up and ties into the second book.

I posted in Scoresman TV Show Countdown that The Pitt is so good that I would consider it for top 10 TV Show ever already. This first season was unreal and blew me away.

I almost exclusively watch serial shows these days over procedural and most medical shows fall under the "emergency of the week" procedural variety.

I might have to make an exception for The Pitt.
