Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (6 Viewers)

Orange is the New Black - Season 2 now loaded on Netflix.
We didn't get into watching season 1 until February of this year so we were unaware that, unlike a regular TV series, they release all episodes at once.. Forecast calls for Rain tonight through tomorrow afternoon.. :)

Watched "Odd Thomas" yesterday and really enjoyed it.. 4 out of 5

Left the door open to follow the books for other movies.. Was a little shocked when they killed off stormy.. it has been years since I read the first book so can't recall if that happened in the book or not so took me by surprise.

Netflix and Verizon having a little spat over Netflix posting the message "The Verizon network is crowded right now" when users are experiencing trouble.

Verizon sends Cease/Desist threatening legal action. Netflix responds with pretty much a GFY and mentioning the Netflix ISP Speed Index and some consumer transparency.

http://www.avclub.com/article/now-netflix-fighting-verizon-205508

The last part (from the article) was pretty funny.

"Soon, Verizon’s vice president of public relations will be asking Netflix if it tried unplugging its movie-streaming modem and plugging it back in again, and Netflix’s legal team will issue a statement reading, “Yes, of course we tried that.” Then Verizon will have Netflix go ahead and try restarting the modem anyway."

Just watched Goon. A lot better than I thought it would be. Funny and foul mouthed but with a bit of inner turmoil and some heart. Worth a watch.

Just watched "The Returned" not the French TV show but the indie zombie movie. I'd give it a B/B-

Nice concept - There is a Zombie outbreak (not shown) and they find a virus that causes it and synthase a cure. But the infected need to take the cure every day and the supply is running out. It was more of a thriller than a zombie movie. I think you see 3 zombies all movie.

Nice concept, but bad production. None of the leads could act except the guy who played Alex. Would love to see a remake with a larger budget.

The funny thing is the close captioned is racist. They made a point of saying it was a "Black Nurse" talking when there was no other nurse around. I thought "Huh" until they pulled a body out of a lake and made a point to say "Chinese CSI"

Even though Steven Van Zandt isn't all that great, I am really enjoying Lilyhammer.

The supporting cast makes the show worth a watch.

It took me two episodes to "get it", but after that I was hooked. Both, laugh out loud funny, and also so many things where I'm not laughing but just going "That's really funny"

Ah, excellent... I've been looking for something like this!

I have Amazon Prime and Netflix instant and find that the video quality on Netflix is downright terrible.

Anyone have some troubleshooting advice? I've rebooted my modem/router and Kindle Fire. I was told the video quality will be oodles better on Amazon Prime because it's integrated into the Kindle (being an Amazon product). Still, Netflix shouldn't look like complete ###, right? Netflix's customer service is garbage.

Are you getting 40mbps or thats what they sold you? How many devices in the house? What are you running Netflix on?

Finished season three of Luther.

Was mildly entertaining but not must watch by any stretch. Almost boring and by the numbers.
So not as good as the first two?
Elba is great and I enjoyed it but not much momentum. Season almost felt episodic rather then serialized when it ended. Was not as good as the first two seasons. Kind of disappointing when they only have to come up with four episodes a year. But was a decent fix with seemingly no shows going since Mad Men, GoT and The Americans ended.

Yes. Plus, a show like this reminds me how important fresh casting is. I don't have anything against Tom Hanks or Julia Roberts, I just don't care if I ever see either one of them in a movie ever again.

I made it through about 4 or 5 episodes. Some humorous moments but rarely actual laughs for me. I've always loved fish out of water storylines but this just didn't do it for me.

Films I never heard of recommended to me by Netflix that have become some of my favourites.

Lars and the Real Girl - Seems like a joke premise but this is actually an amazing story of the power of a community in healing mental illness

Short Term 12 - Realistic, raw and emotional film about a group foster home for teens

The Intouchables - French film about a rich quadriplegic who hires a thug to be is live-in carer and the friendship they develop

Robot and Frank - An ex-jewel thief in the future battling Alzheimers by training his robot to be his partner in crime

What Maise Knew - Book adaptation about a child caught between shared custody of two rich but irresponsible parents and their "partners"

Cashback - Quirky, artsy and plenty of nudity but underneath is a unique coming of age story with some beautiful scenes and contemplative thoughts.

13 Assassins - A more graphic version of 7 samurai

Europa Report - Small budget sci-fi about a mission to find life on Europa.

Timer - Facinating concept of a future that challenges the concept of the soul mate.

Safety Not Guaranteed - Comedy about a magazine team doing a story about a guy who placed a classified ad to find a time travel partner.

Forward Unto Dawn - A live action origins story for the Halo game. Great visuals, developed characters fairly well for a shorter film.

End of Watch - Raw, edge of seat police drama that follows two partners in LA.

40Mbps is the "plan" that I have. I would have to run a speed test to see what my actual speeds are. My wife is typically streaming from her laptop at the same time (at night, right before bed). Those would be the only two devices. I mean, there's a third that's used (I have a Chromebook), but not at the same time as her laptop --- and I use a Kindle Fire HD.

I would wager you're getting way less than that. Plus it depends on your distance from the router when you're using the kindle. Further away means less signal without a range extender. Still Netflix starts off low res and then picks up high def as it goes in my experience. Unless the signal is really poor, you should be getting a decent picture quality.

Really enjoyed these three.

I would wager this as well. I'm probably less than 15 feet from the router when I'm using the Kindle.

It just baffles me why Amazon Prime's streaming is ultra-clear while Netflix's is piss-poor.

Edit: Just changed my preferences within Netflix to "Auto" in terms of playback settings. I had it on "High" and maybe I just don't have the bandwidth. We'll see if this changes anything.

Should help.

At what point should this thread be changed to YouTube on Fire...Thedarewall...solarmovie.."watch instantly" gems?

This week I recommend "Neighbors" and "The Raid 2" Pretty good copies are floating around.

Just started watching The League last night. Holy crap its funny.

One of the first couple of episodes and they are in a bar and dude brings the bald guy a beer. The bald guy, "Um, I ordered a Reisling." Other dude, "Yeah, I know, but we are in public."

:lmao:

Due to this show, the dynasty league I've been in for 10 years is now called "The Pride League". Great show.

I don't get it. :oldunsure:

It's the dog days of summer TV so I'll try watching this since nothing else is on.

I just watched this last night. I really liked it. When it started and I realized how the camera shots were going to be, I thought "Oh no, not gonna enjoy this". I was wrong. Great acting too.

I watched Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy last night. Not really sure what I was expecting. Of course, he ruined it. Sucked everything good out of the original. 1/5

Was it just me, or did they totally ditch the found footage stuff towards the end of the movie and hope no one would notice?

Until you just mentioned it here, I didn't even think of that. makes me wonder now.

You're talking about the funeral scene right?

Yup. It picks and chooses when to use it. Bugged me a little.

I wasn't a fan of this show for the first couple seasons but I kept plugging away at it when I didn't have much else to watch. For some reason it finally clicked with me (or got better) in the most recent 2 seasons and I absolutely love it.

When Bob's Burger first came out, I watched the first few episodes and hated it for some reason, I can't remember.

But I tried watching it again last week and love it. Pleasant surprise to hear Kevin Kline.

My favorite part so far is when Gene wins the mascot race and is being interviewed by Kevin Kline. He asks Gene where the burgers are from and Gene hems and haws. And you hear Bob is the background screaming, "IT'S BOBS BURGER! YOU WORK THERE EVERYDAY!!" :lmao: :lmao:

I was on the floor tears in my eyes

it took me a few episodes to really warm up to it but it works for me now. at first i was laughing hardest because of the kids but now it's the other characters. Teddy especially gets to me but Bob and Linda are priceless.
