Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (5 Viewers)

I've watched a bunch of season 2, and I'm torn between continuing to binge and slowing down to make it last longer.  I can see why not everyone loves this show, and I would guess that there's a lot of overlap in that group and people who don't like the last few seasons of Louie.

While not everything clicks all the time for me, and I particularly wish he hadn't cast his real parents, I am enjoying this show a lot. Episode 6, NY I Love You, is definitely the highlight for me so far.
I agree about the Louie overlap.

You're right about his parents' acting.  His mom is particularly bad.  I don't mind his dad as much.

I already finished season 2 and enjoyed it as much as season 1.  You probably haven't gotten to episode 8 ("Thanksgiving") yet but that might be my favorite.  It's a stand alone, flashback episode about Denise.

There was a cute story about his dad agreeing to act in season one just so he could spend more time with Aziz - that one episode would have been enough, particularly because it was relevant to the plot of that episode.

Just finished season 2.  I'm moving to Modena to learn how to cook pasta and find Alessandra Mastronardi.

Just finished up Continuum ... All in all I ended up enjoying this quite a bit.

You'll need to leave behind any other "Time Travel paradoxes" you may have seen in other movies as they REALLY push the limits.. I won't give away who, but at one point one of the characters end's up killing themselves

was this a show that was cancelled unexpectedly or was it able to come to a planned out finish?

Can someone explain to me the rules around downloading to your phone?  I've consumed a bunch of shows sonce this option started. But I can't seem to download Rectify and can't find out why. (Disclaimer, didn't try very hard)

Sinnce I can't download that, what should I watch next?  Sense 8 or 3%?

3% is terrible... trust me now, or trust me later.

not saying Sense8 is too much better.. but if you like the wojowhoskis movies since, but not including the first matrix, you'll eat it up.

Good Christ. Don't give up your line drawing job to promote entertainment.

I really don't want to start a new thread for this, but:  Does anyone here have any thoughts about Starz?  From what I can tell, it's a platform very similar to Netflix, and it has some movies, old tv shows, and original programming.

I REALLY want to watch American Gods, based on the Neil Gaiman book.  But don't quite know if it's worth it to buy this channel (or whatever) just for that.  I'm already doing Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime (this last one I may get rid of).

My Guess, since the last season is only 6 episodes, is that they gave them the "Wrap it up as this is the last season" notice..

Yet, the last episodes didn't feel rushed so at least it had a decent wrap up and didn't leave you hanging..

another vote for Sense8. And yes 3% was terrible.

I watched the first 2 episodes of the new season and it wasn't as funny as season 1. The back and forth banter with the chubby kid was good but I guess I miss his NY pals.

You can purchase Starz through Amazon for like $10 a month and get access to all their content streaming. I did that last year for a month to catch up on Black Sails, will probably do it again this summer to catch the last season of Sails and American Gods.

Master of none s2 was fantastic
I'm taking my time through this and really enjoyed "Religion".

Especially:
Mom: You lost your passport 3 times!
Dev: I only lost it 2 times.
Mom: You lost it 3 times!
Dev: Oh yeah.

:lmao: Not sure why it's so funny.

Thanksgiving episode, thanksgiving 2016 was the hardest i laughed, no spoilers but I ####### lost it, just thinking about it now I can't stop laughing.

I enjoyed it so much i want to learn italian now

Two episodes in, and I've barely laughed at all.

I hope it gets better, because season 1 was hilarious.
The Religion and First Date episodes were good. They aren't constant laughs, but just really well done. I started New York, I Love You and it's also done in an interesting way.

They seem to be going for something other than being a laugh factory and I'm enjoying it.

I don't take it as a comedy, but as a drama with some comedy mixed in because the cast are a bunch of funny people, and that stuff will come out.

I blew through season 2 in one sitting today, so awesome. Some of the best TV I've seen in awhile for what it is. I read elsewhere that a season 3 that would presumably close the loop on the ending is very TBD, as Aziz doesn't want to do it unless he feels it can hold up and not just be about simply putting another season out. I hope they do, love this series.

I liked S1, but don't remember finding it hilarious. Iirc, "cute" was the word I used for it... not in a demeaning easy- I enjoyed it, found it funny, but kept thinking it would go further with everything from humor to plot to character development. Still enjoyed it for what felt like a fresh perspective on things.

I can't convince the wife to watch S2, so will have to find time to watch on my own.

ETA... Azizs co-creator just moved in next door.

I appreciate that. The show still looks great. A Bicycle Thief tribute is nice, but it wouldn't have been nicer with a few solid laughs.

This weekend I texted my wife (who's out of town) that I learned sign language from watching Master of None.
Having never seen the "New York, I love you" episode, she still fired back: Don't use it in public! :lmao:

Thanksgiving was good. Not that funny, but my eyeballs got a little sweaty at the end.
The whole instagram discussion was great though.

I don't throw this around loosely- I thought S2 was brilliant.  Some of the best television I've seen.

Watched "War Machine", the new Netflix made movie with Brad Pitt and a bunch of other well known actors.  As with virtually every Netflix made movie or show, I thought it was mediocre at best.  3 stars.  The only movie or show made by Netflix that I would give more than 3 stars is "Spectral".  It's a shame IMO because in general I really like the premise of the Netflix shows and movies, especially the Marvel ones, but I don't think Netflix is good at this.

I agree with this a lot of this. Also, Netflix is moving away from having streamable rights of other people's shows to invest in their own projects. Of the handful of Netflix Original stuff that I want to see, I can binge it all in a couple of months a year. I'm switching to Hulu for my next billing cycle. It seems to be more in line with what I want out of a streaming service. I'll re-up with Netflix in a few months to watch the new stuff I want to see, and then cancel it again.

This is exactly what I was thinking of doing too, except I may go with Amazon instead of Hulu.  Either way, I can sign up for Netflix for a month or 2 and watch a new season of Daredevil and whatever else they put together, but overall it's becoming less and less worth it compared to it's competitors.

I also find it funny how when Netflix estimates how many stars I will give a movie or show, they try to be accurate with everything except their own movies and shows.  Every estimate they give for their own is 5 stars.  Every time.

The Recommended sections are always full of Netflix Originals. They seem to be focusing on quantity over quality right now.

Movies or documentaries?
Movies, preferably old ones. I'd happily watch Saving Private Ryan today but it's not on Netflix. Might do Inglorious Basterds but that's not really a war movie. Our nephew visiting would probably like it though.

Anyone see The Longest Day with John Wayne?

If you have HBO Go, Band of Brother is the best WW2 movie/show of all time IMO.  As far as Netflix, it's a limited selection.  IIRC Patton and Schindler's List are available.

Have you watched blood line? Id give it 4 stars.

Have not seen it but have heard good things.

Also have heard good things about Downfall but haven't seen it yet. It is in German with English subtitles.
