Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (71 Viewers)

I know I am going to sound like Christopher Columbus because I discovered something millions of people already knew about, but I don't watch TV so I finally started watching Blue Bloods on Netflix.  I like the show a lot.

we talked about Catastrophe in here (Amazon show)... been binging it the last week after watching S1 a while back. S2 and part of S3 so far- big fan. dysfunctional, brutally honest, bitingly funny and loving/lusting couple. rest of the cast is hilarious. one of my favorite comedies right now with Veep and Silicon Valley
I'm a pretty big fan of the show. it knows what it does well and sticks to it pretty consistently. this is my favorite character.
wrapped up S3. still a fan- the writing is great and main cast are all fantastic, especially the leads.

felt like it started to drift into melodrama there in the last couple episodes... not the end of the world as a show about a couple dealing with coulple issues- but hopefully it maintains the biting humor side of things over trying to tell a story (well- hopefully it can do both... but as a comedy first and foremost, I'm picking comedy first).

:(  carrie fischer.

I would mostly agree. It wasn't as sharp for whatever reason. I definitely felt like the writing was a bit sloppy too.

Each season isn't a year. It's a year on our time, but, I think she's only been in there like 9 months or something so far in show time.

Haven't seen the new season yet, but, heard the whole season is 1 day in the show. Jdogg--accurate?
Not sure how accurate this is but...

Season 1 - late September to Christmas

Season 2 - late January to very early April

Season 3 - Mother’s Day until early August

Season 4- August through September

So we’ve got until the end of Season 5 for Piper to do something nutty and get time added.

EDIT: Season 5 is only going to be three days long. Piper just might make it through the seventh season and still just have fifteen months.

Typically every episode picks up seconds after the previous one, and a week passes during each episode. Exceptions include 1) Season 2 which had six episodes take two weeks, because the sixth one is valentine’s day, 2) when Piper beat up Pennsatucky (a month passed), 3) when Red was in the infirmary (about five weeks), and then 4) Season 4, by the eighth episode it’s really hot out so I’m guessing it’s still August because that’s when they were all in the chain gang and complaining about the heat and the distribution of the spots in the yard that had shade, and Lorna’s sister later on tells her that the reason Vinny hasn’t called her is because “the football is on now, you know how boys are”.

I've only watched two episodes of the new season so I'm not sure.

Is there a discussion about The Handmaiden's Tale on Hulu?

I'm thinking of starting this and looking for a   or

I'm maybe 7 episodes into "Handmaids Tale" and I can it's the best show of the year. GREAT writing. Acting is top notch too. It's political, sure, but not in a hectoring way. It's so good. A shame it's in Hulu and none of you will see it.
Good to hear. A female friend of mine recommended this over the weekend. Knowing how wimmin's taste in TV can be  :loco:  (especially after she explained the plot), I definitely wanted to check in here before spending time on this.
Now I'm really looking forward to it.

My GF really liked it if that matters. I haven't watched it yet.

Interesting. I watched the first 30 minutes and it really felt like there was some sort of inside joke everyone but me was in on. Not quite Santa Clarita Diet bad but I didn't make it very far in.
It's right up my alley as far as satire goes. Can defiantly seeing  it not being for everyone

oh- the wife started us on 13 reasons why. hopefully one of the reasons is why the kid doesn't just sit down and binge listen to all the tapes. we've watched two, and I don't know how much more of him asking other people about the tapes with the same avoid/won't-tell responses. I get it- that's the conceit/concept of the show- 1 tape or side per episode... but idiotic conceit if so. other than that, I guess it's ok teen suicidal stuff. prefer my teen genocide in the 100 though.
I watched two episodes and I think I'm done.  Same complaints you have but I'll add one and this one just bothers me to no end, especially now that I'm a parent.  All these teen dramas feature the most idiotic, head in the sand, oblivious parents in the world.  Harcken back to 90210....for parents with money and intelligence, they were always so obtuse and unaware what was happening.  I dunno...I was watching this because I heard so much about it, but this is pretty dopey so far.  I don't think I'll finish it.

it gets really frustrating when it gets into the serial raping and reasons for the suicide... so I would't blame you for pulling the plug (so to speak) on this one.

We finished episode 10 last night. Someone should sit that dummy down so he can listen to all the tapes before asking a billion questions and lashing out. Next episode is Clay's tape so hopefully we found out what kind of horrible monster he is.

On a lighter note, Part 3 of Terrace House is out. Oh, how I missed those crazy Japanese.

It doesn't happen often but we are hooked from episode 1. Right up our alley.

Kid movies of late...

"Jungle Book" with Jon Favreau directing. Fun casting with Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Walken, and Ben Kingsley but it's still pretty weak overall. I was not impressed with the CGI at all. It was kind of sloppy with the animals. Mouths moving without the facial expressions reflecting something is pretty shoddy effort.

"Harry and the Hendersons" is an 80's classic movie that I missed. Lithgow was a ham then and still is.

"Around the World in 80 Days" with Jackie Chan and Steve Coogan. Perfect movie for a 7 year old boy. He loved Chan - which is to be expected - and I'll be looking for more JC films to share with him. I'm not quite ready to introduce 70's Hong Kong king fu theater to him yet.

Since I finished HOC's I'll start on GLOW, wasn't sure what to think about it.  I anxiously await El Floppo's review so I can give his recommendation the appropriate consideration.

Since we never pay for HBO, Showtime, etc. the only chance to catch those shows is when they are on Netflix..

So, I know I'm about 8 years behind most, but 4 episodes into the first year of Shameless and

"Hail Caesar" by the Coen Brothers was another self - indulgent piece of crap. After a string of great films in the 90s, they have a batting below .500 for most of the last 15 years. It's profoundly disappointing. They made two of my top 10 films and they're making this crap?

I don't even bother any more.

Alison Brie has alot of sex scenes in her new show Glow. It's spectacular.
Disagree.  After ep 2, nada.  This show would have been soooo much better if it had been created by men and/or on cable.  Women would have been way hotter and there would have been obligatory gratuitous nudity about every 4 minutes.

Odd but interesting show in a twisted kind of way. Glad I watched it, but don't need to see it again.
Just watched this. Very good, twisted black comedy for me. Gylenhaal was great. Agree that it's a one and done, but definitely worth the One. Rene Russo looked and acted awful. Dont know if it was on purpose or not, but

GLOW was great. Binged it yesterday.

I love Alison Brie and her character - a modern take on Shelly Long's Diane Chambers character, intentionally, I think.
