Ahhh I see. Well, then I stick with my original observation that this show was cooked up in a politically-correct think-tank.

 
I got half way through the third episode. It was just too depressing to watch any more. I enjoyed it, but it needs a little levity once in a while.

 
there is some vampire show in netflix maybe called originals or something like that it looks ok but i keep falling asleep during it but that is more because i have been busting my hump lately and am just plum tuckered out like a good little trooper who knows if anyone else has seen it give me a write up take that to the sleepy time bank brohans 

 
Ive been watching Trapped... either on amazon or netflix, can't remember which. might also have been on Viceland.

a lot of shows set in iceland lately. it's not bad- pretty good icelandic murder mystery noir. reminds me a bit of Fortitude, with a more straight ahead story-line. the show starts slow setting things up, and then each episode moves along nicely. decently acted by a lot of actors whose last names end in "SON", including at least one from Fortitude. beautiful scenery.

I thought Fortitude was just the US remake of Trapped.

 
Netflix has become the new HBO.  Completely changing the way TV is done.

Their original content that I have really enjoyed:

  • Pretty much the entire Marvel-Defenders catalogue
  • The Crown
  • Series of Unfortunate Events (NPH's best work ever)
  • Stranger Things
  • Marco Polo
  • House of Cards (although, I haven't caught up on this one)
  • BoJack Horseman
  • Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life :bag:
  • Stand Up Comedies by Gaffigan, Chappelle & Birbiglia

The B&W stuff in Italy was terrible for me, but I finally gave it a second chance and s2 was really good.  Though I think my fav ep was the one with the doorman and the deaf lady, which Aziz might not have even been in.  That said, I can see how the terrible acting could turn people away

I don't find the acting bothersome at all. It's a pretty smart show, so that makes up for any flaws in the actors. I agree the episode that followed all the New Yorkers around was really good (exactly what I mean about being a smart show). I really liked the first episode and it's homage to The Bicycle Thief. Maybe that doesn't land well if you haven't seen that movie. Also, Bobby Cannavale doing  Anthony Bourdain was great.

Cannavale does a good job with pompous, loud, arrogant characters (Boardwalk Empire, Nurse Jackie, Vinyl), so the Master of None character was right up his alley. Im interested to see what he does on Mr. Robot. 

 
While season 2 of Master of None was uneven, I am really glad I watched it. My main beef was Aziz's love Italian love interest. I just don't care about them as a couple, and here we have the millionth casting where a very attractive female who's interested in a very average looking man. Cliché and unrealistic. 

 
FTR, I watched Rogue One again last night just to remind myself (and I had some free time).  It wasn't as good as I remembered, but still better than any of the prequels.  Comedic effect droid was a billion times better than any comedic affect droid in any of the other SW movies.

The best LOL moment was when they put a sack over the head of the blind guy. And he goes, "Seriously??? I'm blind!" :lmao:

:lol:   like any female actor couldn't be a drag on Bateman's character?  She reminds me of the wife on Breaking Bad.  The poor pitiful me wife that has a breakdown, or I don't want to uproot the kids, or letting her kids drop F bombs at will.    Just the whinny constant hag during the show.  I think she is the only bad character so far after watching all 10 episodes.  The rednecks are great, the cartel people, even all the people they are in business with at this point without giving away spoilers.

I think there's been a decent amount of levity. But that could mostly be that I picture Michael Bluth on most of Jason Bateman's lines.

Ok, let's break this down: Walter White endangers the family he claims he loves, but Skyler is a whiny hag because she's angry at Walt? The show is asking us to identify with Walter, that's true. But if your sister went through what Skyler went through, I guarantee you wouldn't call her a whiny hag.

I don't find the character of Wendy as poor pitiful me. I think she is a strong woman, and I think Linney plays her great. Her breakdown in the grocery store was a combination of losing her lover, stress over everything that has evolved over her husband's cartel involvement, and culture shock. That doesn't make her poor pitiful me, it makes her human. There are other women characters on that show that are strong willed too including the daughter and the redneck girl.

The daughter is also hot as ####. 

 
The Founder gets added today. Saw this on a plane and really enjoyed it. Big fan of Michael Keaton and Nick Offerman.

Sing gets added tomorrow.

Agree, she's my favorite character in the show. I think she plays a suffering woman with backbone and strength, who will do what she has to to maintain the family despite her "failings".

As an aside, on second viewing Skyler isn't so bad.  During the original run she was SUCH a speed bump in the path of the story you couldn't help but hate her.  She's literally trying to stop the Walter White show we want to see.  She wants Walter to go back to being the mild mannered spineless twerp that was satisfied with getting just a tug on his birthday.  We don't want to watch that show.  We don't want to watch the show around the dinner table where Walter asks Junior about his day.  THAT SAID....on second view it is interesting to watch this tug of war between spineless Walt and "the one who knocks", how he got to that point, and why both sides have such allure to him.

The wife role was a thankless role.  In fact, the writers slyly kind of run parallels in the story to how people felt about her character.  She laments about being the bad guy to Walter Jr, much like she has to be the "bad guy" with trying to get Walter out of the Heisenberg life in viewers eyes.  Overall I thought she did a bad job of conveying the "normal" viewpoint, but I've never been a fan of her as an actress anyway.  Everyone else was running circles around her (did you buy the guy playing Mike Ermantrout?  Saul Goodman? Gus Fring?  Definitely.  Heck, even the guys playing Badger and Skinny Pete were more believable as their character than she was as hers) that it's not hard to argue that she was miscast.

 
Started rewatching Shameless.  It's tough for me to recommend this show because all the casual sex and drug use is a bit to handle if behavior like that isn't normal to you.  And that's not why I'm a fan.  I appreciate how frank they are about it all, but IMO what makes the show so compelling is how the family tries to cope and survive with widely varying levels of intelligence and trust.  

 
FYI, Friends from College (Netflix original) has a solid cast and the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  I got my hopes up high for it.

That was a mistake.  Every character is completely unlikable and has zero redeeming qualities.  The show is just off putting.  Easy pass for you guys.

It has a good cast that is kinda wasted here. I don't mind shows about a group of people who at their core aren't very nice, like Seinfeld or Sunny, but none of these people are likeable. Not good.

Jason Segel ruins that movie and almost every thing else he is in for me. Can not stand him as an actor.
