Ozark

Glad I watched the entire season. That it's derivative of Breaking Bad is meaningless. Highly recommended.
We've had Netflix through SIL account for months but I had never watched anything on it until "Ozark". Both wife and I enjoyed it, me probably a bit more than her.

After finishing S1 of Ozark I was motivated to go through dozens of pages in the Netflix thread to get other recommendations. As a result, wife and I began watching "Stranger Things". Wife LOVED it. We binge watched 7/8 episodes (I thought it had 10) until 130am. Wife wanted to keep watching but we stopped there, thinking we had 3 episodes left. I thought it was funny wife loved it so much-I was never even able to get her to watch more than 3-4 episodes at a time of GOT, which is my favorite TV ever.

I started "Travelers" on my own-watched one episode, it was OK but didn't grab me, though I'll likely return to it at some point.

Struggling to find something to watch, dialed up Vikings since I lost touch after season 1. When does Man in the High Castle come back? Or Travelers?
Vikings kicks all kinds of serious ###. I love that show. I can't wait for season 5 already.

Stranger Things is awesome sauce.

All these Netflix shows are outstanding:

Bloodline
House of Cards
Lady Dynamite
Master of None
The Fall
Crashing
Bojack Horseman
Thanks, really appreciate the recommendations, I'll check these out next.

I was just perusing the available titles and filling my watch list and noted that The Ranch has 4 1/2 star rating and ET has a 3. WTMF?

It will be interesting to see what they price this at and how much of their catalog they make available. I think that they're making a mistake though. It seems like every single network has their own app that you can stream at least some of their content from. Most of them are free. I don't think many people use any of them.

If they price it really reasonably, they'll probably be ok. But I could easily see Disney trying to price it in the $15-20 range and failing miserably.

I believe those ratings are suggested ratings you would give based on your viewing history and ratings you have given.

Yikes.  Seems unlikely based on what I watch and I don't recall ever rating anything.  I do love Sam Elliot but that Ranch show is pure trash.

It's going to be interesting because the potential audience seems limited (IMO) to families with small children (with cancellations happening when kids say "Disney is for babies!" and stop watching).  With it being so niche you have to figure that they'll have to price it accordingly (high).

The thing with all things Disney is that their fans rewatch the hell out of their stuff. I had a family friend who's daugher damn near wore out their VHS copy of Aladdin within he first year. It's weird.

Don't forget that they have Star Wars and Marvel in their portfolio. Those are potentially huge.

I was in a horror mood today and saw a couple good ones:

The Pact - daughter inherits a haunted house, and does some investigative work on the spirits haunting it.  Nice mix of well-earned and jump scares, along with a nice detective story to tie the thing together.  Low-budget?  Sure, but every penny spent looks like a dollar on-screen.  A little slow to ramp up but worth the wait.

The Houses October Built - the stories that scare me most are the ones that take relatable people and put them in realistically horrific situations. A bunch of thrill seekers go on a cross-country tour of haunted houses during Halloween, looking to find the most extreme scare.  They find more than they bargained for.  Usually not a fan of the "found footage" genre, but it totally works here.  If you're into creepy movies that fill you with dread...this is your huckleberry.

Another vote for Houses October Built

Was trying to find Slapshot about a month ago and came across Goon.  I didn't go in with high hopes but found it very entertaining.  I have very different taste in movies than my B-I-L but he was also pleasantly surprised.  Worth a shot if you like hockey movies.

i was trying to find something to watch with my 7 yo last night. He likes superheroes so we watched S1 of "Supergirl" before finally trying "Flash", "Arrow" and now "Legends of Tomorrow". "Flash" seems to be the most balanced - not too violent, not too soapy - of the DC shows. Anyway, so I was planning to introduce my son to "Bob's Burgers" and "Simpson's" finally as some lighter, sillier fare. "Bob's..." has left Netflix and I'd guess Simpsons has as well. We watched "BB" starting S1 on Hulu last night and he seemed to like it.

Other shows my son likes are "MasterChef", MasterChef Jr" and "Battlebots".

It's a little violent sometimes, but Marvel's Agents of Shield is fun.

Arrow might get a little dark for his age.  "Flash" is a good watch, but it touches on the impact of losing loved-ones a lot (I think every season has some kind of familial loss)...so be ready to have that conversation if you haven't already.

I see that my 10yo watched One-Punch Man (I'm sure at the advice of his older cousins) after finishing up Legends of Tomorrow.

here's the thing about "Flash" as compared to "Arrow": it still acts like a superhero show. Flash is somewhat soapy, sure, but he's still fighting supervillains and runs around in red pajamas. it doesn't try to do too much, based on the few episodes i have seen.

The sex-stuff in Flash escalates, though.  It ventures from PG to PG-13 after the first few episodes.

ETA:  We cut it out of my 10 year old son's allowed viewing due to that.

Icarus is a damn fine documentary on the Russian doping doctor.  I know that doesn't sound riveting, but with Putin doing Putin things, it is.

There are some plots in later seasons that can get a bit scary for an 11 year old. But the first season or two are pretty tame, if I recall correctly.
And no matter your age, every male on the planet can appreciate Chloe Bennet running in a wet dress. (Season 2? Can't recall. Luckily the gif lives on forever on the interwebs)

finished Ozark. not bad, not great.. will probably watch the next season especially if it's during a dead-zone in summer.
We just started it last night. It's solid "B" so far. I like that Bateman is getting a chance to do something different. I'm waiting for Linney to get a chance to do more.

Still watching "Casual" on Hulu. Middle of Season 3. It's still enjoyable but some episodes strung together are a grind.
