We just started it last night. It's solid "B" so far. I like that Bateman is getting a chance to do something different. I'm waiting for Linney to get a chance to do more.

Still watching "Casual" on Hulu. Middle of Season 3. It's still enjoyable but some episodes strung together are a grind.
it doesn't really get any better- and maybe dips a little below. but bateman is quite good and linney is too- although per your comment, she doesn't ever get a chance to do much more. having a very hard time understanding those comments from early on in here complaining about her or her character- she nails it, and the character is a somewhat fleshed out and understandably written person (given the situation).

feel like the show suffers at times from some inconsistencies in direction and editing... didn't check for crew, but feel like certain episodes take pretty dramatic shifts in how they're presented that became distracting, rather than interesting.. to me.

Bateman directed the first two. It looks like he does the last two.

The thing about Ozark, is that there seems to be a lot unfinished at the end.  They definitely left things hanging for 2nd season.

Gracious I hate that hillbilly woman.  She is one of the most evil characters I've ever seen on screen.

I'd say Ozark borders on great, so I guess I'm higher than most on the show.

After one episode, I have a hard time imagining that Atypical is nothing short of fantastic television.
Just finished. Big fan.

Great cast. Rappaport and Jennifer Jason Leigh are the big names here, but everyone kills it in their role. especially the kid that plays the main character, Sam.

Want that impressed with the first episode, tbh.

ETA.. wasn't, not want. Might watch another episode based on your take

No Defenders reaction yet? I thought it was far better than any of the individual characters' series.

I enjoyed it. Although I want to punch Iron Fist.  I did enjoy the 8 episode length. It kept the story moving. No 10 episodes of "we came *this close* to catching the bad guy" in the middle of the season.

Tried "Disjointed", with Kathy Bates as a pot store owner. Couldn't make it halfway through the first episode. It was awful.

Anybody watch that Van Helsing series?  It's fair to middling 4 episodes in, wondering if it ramps up.

Right now it's one of those "people have to do really stupid things to advance the plot" shows

Wife and I tried to watch this. Got through two episodes.

JJL is terrible.

I think there's a separate thread. I thought it was pretty good. It's a little slow the first 2 episodes as it sets everything up, but then it gets pretty good.

Iron Fist is just not good. I think a large part of it is the actor, but his story arc is annoying too.

And the very ending was a little disappointing in how predictable it was.

It seemed pretty ridiculous to play out everyone's sorrow as much as they did and dwell on Daredevil's sacrifice like they did, only to reveal that he was obviously still alive. I feel like they should have at least let it linger into another season of one of the other shows. Nobody really thought he was dead, but at least let us believe there's a CHANCE. It lost all emotional impact with how they did it.

So this falls in the weird movie category i guess so it might not be your cup of tea... Think Donnie Darko or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or being John Malkovich for a kind of comparison.... Buster's Mal Heart. Stars the dude from Mr. Robot. Not great but good enough that I watched the whole thing and I'm quick to bail on Netflix movies.

I finished it. It stays fair to middling all the way.

Watched "Death Note"--I really liked it.

The only complaint was it felt rushed,  It really could have used another 15 minutes right after he gets the book, but maybe that is just me. I may seek out the Manga comic series and see how those are.

It looks like Netflix has an anime episodic season for Death Note available, might work.

I liked the movie too, but for me it was the girlfriend that was rushed.  I know what they were going for, but they really pushed her progression IMO.

Why did I wait so long to start Black Mirror? For the most part, I've really enjoyed it. I stopped the Waldo episode about halfway through. Just didn't care about that story. Maybe I'll finish it, but I'll probably just move to the next episode next time I watch.

Assuming I should watch all the stand alone's before defenders? Working through Daredevil now.
I didn't watch any of the stand-alones. We just started watching The Defenders and it feels like there's a lot of info that would have been worth watching the stand-alones. So yeah, I would recommend starting with the stand-alones

Anyone watch Million Yen Women? Its ... interesting. I'm about 5 episodes in. I almost quit at one point, but decided to stick it out because -- well wasn't sure what else to watch. Now I am kind of sucked in to solving the mystery. They are only 22 minute episodes so I'll probably ride it out.

Thank god football is back, though.

Yeah I cant imagine watching the Defenders first.

Do you speak Japanese?

There are a couple of weak episodes. But mostly, I loved it.

I haven't seen the movie, but I watched 2 seasons of the anime years ago and it's great. I think Hulu has the entire series.

not Netflix but I watched the first episode of "Harlots" on Hulu. Nice period piece on the whoring in 1700's London. BBC production values. Good acting, especially from Samantha Morton, and nice set up for a season.

check out The Wailing...from the Horror Movie thread and courtesy of Scoresman:

The Wailing - Amazon Rental (ETA-now available on Netflix) - This is one to add to your watchlists.  A Korean movie about a village undergoing random deaths and illness after a suspicious Japanese man moves into town.  First off, this movie is in Korean and subtitled, AND it's 2.5 hours long so there's a bit of effort required here.  You will be rewarded for the effort, however.  Paraphrasing from an IMDB review that put it best, "by slowly unveiling the real nature of certain characters, the last 45 minutes of the movie will change your perspective on the whole thing. Every few minutes you will switch sides when trying to determine whom to trust and only when the big reveal comes do you realize how detailed the setup to get there was.".  This movie will stick with you, having you asking lots of questions about the characters and their motivations.  The characters are portrayed well, especially the dad and his daughter.  I put this on my best of 2016 list.
Finally saw this one. Between this, Train to Busan, and a few others, holy hell South Korea is churning out some brilliance.

Wailing rocking a 99% rt score. Long movie but worth every minute. The first 30 minutes or so were leaving me on the fence but as it continues it continues to drag you in. Brilliant movie. Man oh man seriously great film. The trailer.
