Finished Season 3 of Narcos, loved it! I don't know if I'd say it was the best of the series but it lives up to the first 2 seasons.

Kicking off Dark right now.  I'm housebound today so if I like it I should be able to get through a lot of it.

Watching with English dub because I hate subtitles.  I'm very unsophisticated that way.

The last, say, 20 minutes or so of the season were mostly redeeming. I wouldn't have bothered with second season without it. It was a pretty disappointing series to that point for me.
different strokes

great acting .....interesting characters....great storyline ....keeps me wanting more

4 episodes in and I'm still interested.  This show is a slow burn very much like Stranger Things but even a bit slower.  Enough interesting character development and unexpected #### is happening to keep my engaged as the story build.

I didn't much care for Torv but I found the Kemper character really well done.
I've said it a bunch in here.  Lead sucked, his girlfriend should disappear forever.  But his partner, pretty much every psycho, and Torv were fantastic imo.

One thing I just thought of re: the Torv character:

What was the deal with the cat/cat food?  And then full of bugs at the end?   Some sort of symbolism I'm too dumb to get, I assume?

I think it's pretty easy to play a psycho. Kemper was a nice change of pace but he did *great* work in the final episode. I didn't hate Tench, the partner, but then I didn't expect him to be anything other than he was. Torv bored me mostly as she was given so little to do.

I just cant get over how great Mindhunter turned out to be ....what a pleasant surprise
Whew, it was tough getting through the first episode. The acting and dialogue was really bad. They could have just shot the hostage taker in the opening scene at any time. Gonna be tough to be motivated to watch more but I'll take the word of others that it gets better but that was a rough start.

Agree with both you- the leads were surprisingly weak. But the supporting cast was fantastic.
see this is where i differ from others who think this....in my mind the lead is getting the response he wants from the viewers...hes not very likable ...his boss doesnt like him...his GF thinks hes a geek...the woman he works with doesnt get along with him...even his partner has issues with him...he is the epitome of book nerd...has no real life experience...thats why he couldnt help the guy who killed himself at the beginning...he has no idea how to talk to real people  as seen in the exercise he was teaching with the hostages and guns at the FBI academy....hes all book smart with no street smarts ...he looks nieve in  every situation...lost almost.....he doesnt fit in at all...but because of this he thinks outside the box...and its working with the killers...the last scene where Kemper made him feel weak and helpless he finally felt something he only read about...true fear...it will be interesting to see if that single encounter changes his character next season...hes coming off exactly the way hes supposed to be on the show

Considering they're based on real people, I've wondered if there actor is trying to play him exactly. But the character- even if autistic- doesn't come across as believable. Not sure if that's all on the actor or a combo of actor and writers. But considering the writing is pretty good elsewhere, I'm leaning towards actor.

I think he plays it well.  Having a lead that isn't likable or at least charismatic is not what we are used to, but I thought he made it more interesting.

it's not a 'likable or charismatic' issue for me... it's a believable issue. I don't get or buy the character, which makes it less interesting.

Lady Dynamite is killing me. softly. the humor is strange (wife keeps commenting on that part) and all over the place but really works for me.

Started over the weekend and am 8 episodes in. Obvious comparisons to be made to Stranger Things, although much darker and with no real likable characters. I found the dubbing distracting at first but then hardly paid attention to it.

Attention: Do no attempt to multitask while watching this show. There's a lot going on with characters and you need to give it your fully attention. If not, you'll struggle to keep up with who's who.

Need a "dislike" button.  I thought the guy was pretty good frankly. I know people like him, awkward but crazy self confident. I bought it all the way.

Good to know. I like these types of shows/movies. But I can't watch this with my wife, who plays Candy Crush while "watching" TV and asks basic questions that were answered 5 seconds ago if she'd just pay attention. :hot:

Is Netflix starting to do some "commercials" for their own content? I started a movie (Dead Poets Society) and it started playing some Dave Chappelle stand-up. I was able to click something to start the movie immediately, but kind of annoying that they threw that in there.

Anybody watching S2 of the Crown?

We're about 4 in- everything still at the highest standards imo, but the stories so far have been relationship based, which becomes a bit soap operaish and less interesting than those covered last season.

That said, we just watched the episode about Margaret, and of all things the lighting throughout the episode absolutely blew me away. Like the very best film.

We only watched the first episode so far and I'm not surprised that it focuses more on relationships. Hopefully there's a bit more to it later on but it's done so well, I can probably deal with it. I know nothing about these years so it's an interesting story.

Does the Queen watch it? I wonder if she binges.

lol... good question. I'd assume the royals were/are very aware of it. would be funny if she sits around in her pjs and a bong doing ep after ep, yelling at phillip to get her icecream.

yeah- I know nothing about any of it, and it IS done so very well that I'm all in. even though it's relationship driven so far, they do a decent job of tying it into current events of the time.... so the history (world, but mostly UK) is interesting as well as the peek in at social mores and overall zeitgeist of each era.

Really amazing that they're both still alive. I wonder what the whole attitude will be towards the Monarchy when she passes. The whole thing is so outdated.

The wife keeps amazing at Harry's black, divorced, American fiance relative to this show.

Just started it after re-watching season 1.

Was still blown away by season 1.  There are scenes in there that are amazing.  Would have been great to see it on the big screen.

-The very end of the first episode when King Edward is asking Phillip if he understands what his job is as husband to the queen and then gives him that double take and says, "Do you?" then turns to start firing at the ducks is a fantastic scene.

-When Elizabeth is reading her grandmother's letter which says, "Elizabeth Mountbatten has been replaced by Elizabeth Regina ." And then her grandmother bows to her.

-Churchill's connection with the artist who painted his portrait when he realized why he was painting the pond over and over.

I can't think of a single character that wasn't well cast or well played.
