The SyFy version of Battlestar Galactica is free on Amazon Prime right now. I hadn't seen it before. I'm in the middle of season 2. Not sure if I like it or not. Some parts yes, some parts no. Anyone else have feelings for this one?

A friend of mine loved it and bought the DVD set when it first came out (years ago at this point).  He lent me first 2 seasons and I was more like you - some of it was good, other parts not so much.  I didn't borrow other DVDs, but I would give it another try if it becomes available on Netflix.

It’s a great show.  Highly recommend you stick with it. Many feel one of the best scifi series of all time

It is one of my favorite TV series of all time, any genre.  Especially when you realize they were filming seasons 1 and 2 on an incredibly strict budget, so the special effects were more like "differently abled" effects.  As Sci-Fi realized it was working they invested more money into the effects (but not TOO much).  It just gets better and better as it goes along.  If it was on Netflix I'd start it again tomorrow.  Stick with it.  Excellent tv.

I'm another huge fan of BSG. There's a season that drags a bit with a trial that's too overtly stand-in political, but otherwise some of the best sci-fi ever done. Wife and I are about to drop back in for a rewatch.

Also available on Hulu

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon just won the Golden Globe for best TV series - Comedy.

i hadn’t watched it before because it looked a little chick-flick-ish, but it is by the creator of The Gilmore Girls and has some really funny and clever writing.  I’m already four episodes in and really liking this....
This show won’t be for everybody...but it’s excellent.  Also features Tony Shaloub (Monk) who is given great moments throughout Season 1.

I thought it was very good with a conclusive ending.  Tricia Hefner may be the hottest women ever for a tv role in that show.

Wife and I finished the 3rd season of Broadchurch last night.  I feel like some folks in here thought it was a lesser season, and maybe it was because the crime wasn't as compelling.  But I love this show.  I care about all of the characters, I got teary eyed a few times.  I absolutely love the two leads as actors.  I don't know man...just one of my favorite recent shows.  My wife really loves that I walk in a room and look at her and say "Mil-LAH!" in my terrible Scottish accent.

Completely agree.

HACF was one of my favorite shows of the past few years. I know that some people didn't like season 1, but i loved it from the start. The show gets a lot better. I think season 3 was amazing and the last 2-3 episodes of s3 were some of the best tv I've seen in years. Season 4 was good, too. I hated that the series ended, but at least it got to out on its own terms. The reviews were great, but the ratings were not.

I think the music also got better over the last couple of seasons.
Couple episodes into season 3.  So glad they brought Gordon back into the fold.  He is the best thing on the show.

This is outstanding. Highly recommend.
I think the episode was Islands...the scene with the iguana hatchlings and the snakes!  Those 3 or 4 minutes were more suspenseful than most movies.  I'm on the edge of the couch going "what...What The...how many?...HOLY ##### WTF!...RUN LITTLE DUDE, RUN!"

Mine, too. He connects the rest of the main characters. He plays a central role the rest of the way.

I like Bosworth and Joe, too.

I’ve been doing this too.  :bag:

I have two more episodes left in season three and the plan is to watch them tonight

Just started watching The Frozen Dead. French crime drama that is excellent so far just two episodes in.  Gotta read subtitles but definitely worth it.
Done.  Fantastic.  Wrapped up very nicely and could just be done or could have a 2nd season (can't find any info on if it will).

i was looking over shows on my queue and forgot that I started "Ripper Street" a long time ago. started again with S1.1 and found it to be a pleasant surprise. acting is a little off but the writing is good. like "Deadwood" good in that it is artsy but done with conviction. i'm planning to plow ahead here...

So I watched the Def Comedy Jam 25 year anniversary show.   I loved when Def Comedy Jam came out.  On a whole the show itself was not very good.

Some of it just felt awkward and not put together "right"   but there were some funny moments.

In the middle when DL Hugley and Chappelle had a serious moment that just didn't go well was hilarious.   I bet they were thinking they would edit it out but they left it in there and it was hilarious

As a result, just started La Mante.  Another French crime thriller. This one is also excellent. On 2nd episode of 6.
Wow, this is fantastic. This is significantly better than Frozen Dead.

6 episodes and seriously recommend watching this if you are into crime thrillers at all.

----Amazon Prime---

Electric Dreams -  Cool one off short stories.  Black Mirror type show.

Plastic Galaxy: The Story of Star Wars Toys -  Not a great documentary, but if you had these toys as kids it's a nice reminder.  Cool in the way they go through the business of Kenner and the psychological ploys they used to get kids to buy more toys.

Megan Leavey- true story about a soldier and her military dog.

I've been watching Electric Dreams- I think we're 4 or 5 in. a little up and down so far, but I"m a sucker for the theme- which is becoming more and more relevant as AI/algorithms determine more and more of our lives- what does it mean to be human?

I will say, the production values are really high, and they've so far gotten some fun and decent big actors involved. I flat out loved the last one we watched- with Rob from GoT. just beautifully shot and art-directed and a subtle, less defined ending than the others. my main flaw with the series is that they're so fleshed out yet limited in scope, I find myself with a lot of questions regarding things on the periphery of the main stories that go completely unresolved or answered (understandably, given the 1 hour run for a short-story idea).

but I definitely recommend it.

fwiw, there's a thread for Amazon Prime shows... but it's not heavily traveled.

Norsemen

Norwegian sitcom (in english) set in Viking times around 790AD.  Think The Office for the viking set.  Hilarious.  :D

eta: Who knew slaves could be fertile comic grounds? :lmao:

I rarely go to bed before midnight, and thus have the big tv to myself after wifey hits the hay...recently decided to revisit Archer from the beginning.  Holy hell the 1st season is just as funny as I remember. Woodhouse and Krieger are the unsung heroes of this show

I watched the first episode and it was ok. I've been tempted to delete it from my queue but keep thinking that I'll give it another shot.
K8nda felt the same but for whatever reason eps 2 made me laugh out loud.  Try another episode and then call it a day if it don't work.  My sense of humor has been known to be odd so there is that

Krieger is the best.

Archer:  What is the deal with serial killers and skin?

Krieger:  I'm not a...serial killer.

Finished S2 of "The Crown" and liked it maybe more than the first. Foy is doing really fine work at HRH. Vanessa Kirby is terrific with Margaret too. I go back and forth with Matt Smith as Phillip. A little of him goes a long way, I suppose. I did enjoy the stories and the overarching theme of the season. Interesting to see what they'll tackle in S3 with a whole new cast.
This show is amazing. I think they are making a mistake replacing Foy. She is a powerhouse actress. It's Hollywood; find a way to age her.

Excellent show. Never would have expected to be such a fan.

Finished Season 1 of The Last Kingdom; think I saw it mentioned here a while back and that's how I noticed it when skimming potential new shows.

Quite hooked and hoping that a 3rd season is in the works since I see that only 2 exist.  The Viking warlord Ubba was damn fantastic!

Fantastic show. Best thing I've watched on Netflix. I think (?) I read that a third season is planned. My 17 yr old son watched it on his own and loves it (so far) also.
Started Last Kingdom based on these reviews. Did it start slow for you and pick up?3 episodes in and pretty bored with it till now.

Finished Season 2 last night. Really good show. And yeah, I don't get why they aren't aging the characters moving forward. Foy in particular is really incredible in the role. Going to be weird with all new actors.

I thought S1 was better than S2. Man, it's a beautiful looking show, but, the writing could use some help.

Agreed that Foy is great. But her replacement is a stud in her own right. Big fan of her, and no doubt she'll kick ### in the role.

I mean, they could age Foy for one more season, I guess, but, this thing is supposed to run for five more seasons/decades, and Foy sure can't play the queen in her 70s, 80s, or 90s. Same with her husband. I think they'll be fine switching things up.
Watched The Crown and then The House of Windsor which seems to be made by someone with a grudge against the Windsors.  Made everyone except Edward VIII and Charles sound like villains.  I was surprised at how much most of The Crown cast actually look like the people they're playing.

Im two episodes into the Crown. So far Ive enjoyed it but I feel like Im gonna struggle staying interested in the subject matter regardless of how good the writing or acting or cinematography is.

There was one scene in the very first episode (I doubt anyone remembers) that made my wife and I laugh for a good five minutes more than any comedy ever has. The scene in question was the king was getting his top button buttoned by someone else and the guy was taking forever and he snapped and flipped out at the guy. Dont know why we found that scene so funny.

Haha I found it!

Speaking for myself, I honestly don't recall if it started slow, it's been a while. It may have. I'd give it a few more episodes and if it's still slow it may just not be your thing.

Thanks for the suggestion on Halt and Catch Fire whoever suggested. Almost done with the first season and enjoying it immensely despite pretty much hating all the main characters.

Foy makes me feel sympathetic for the real queen.  Looking forward to seeing what she takes on next.

Pretty amazing quality in a show, isn't it?  I felt the same way about Mad Men.

Season 2 focuses a lot more on Cameron and Donna, which is a nice change. Also Bos, who is an awesome character.

what's great is that she makes me feel empathetic at least- but also allows me to feel completely alienated by the role (of queen, not the acting role).

I think re: S1 vs S2, I commented earlier on, but I found the stories more compelling on a global scale in S1 (winston, post WW2, etc) than some of the more intimate stories in S2. but it's still really tip-top to me. and yeah- Foy is unbelievable.
