Any strong opinions on Justified or The Americans?

Looking for a new series.
Justified is outstanding.  One of my favorite’s.  If you liked Deadwood you’ll like Justified, tons of cross over actors.

Yeah IIRC season 1 had a lot of one off type episodes but picked up steam at the end.  Thought all the other seasons were really good

notable movies (to me) coming in June...

Blue Jasmine - 6/1 (not a Woody Allen fan per se but really like this one. Great cast)

Thor: Ragnarok - 6/5 (haven't seen this yet but looking forward to it)

In Bruges - 6/15 (if you haven't seen this, do yourself a favor and watch it)

The Last Jedi - 6/26 (haven't seen this yet)

All good movies.

S1 of "Brockmire" is on Hulu right now and a few episodes into it. Very funny stuff from Azaria and company. Amanda Peet is her usual breezy, funny self too. She looks terrific for 46 and 3 kids later.

I finally watched the Survivalist on Netflix last night. I had my eye on it for a while but don’t think it was available for streaming until recently.  Very good, post-apocalyptic; very similar to The Road with similar themes. Raw and brutal.  The 97% Rottentomatoes is probably inflated due to small sample size and just because critics love gritty low budget movies. There are flaws but it’s good. Will not watch it again.

Finished Evil Genius.  First episode was fascinating but overall the series was twice as long as it needed to be.

8 episodes through The Terror.  As always, it's not the same as the novel, but pretty great TV nevertheless.  Thanks for pimping it...made me figure out I can stream it on the network website.

Anyone watch the second season of 13 Reasons Why? I thought the first season was decent but skeptical about another.
I watched most of S1 and absolutely hated it. Thought the tape conceit was idiotic, but not as idiotic as the I'm a powerless victim suicide bs. wife was talking about S2...no way for me.

Just finished The Five after reading this post. Really good show.  10 episodes, goes quickly.
I preferred the other one, although I did like the five. Very similar unveiling of storyline episode to episode to keep you guessing with alright and wrong answers. I did the like the lead actors as much in the five- thought they were a little weak compared to the material, especially the main guy.

"The Spy Next Door" for family night with my 8-yo. It's as lame as it sounds for a movie with Jackie Chan, George Lopez, Billy Ray Cyrus and Amber Valleta. Chan has earned a lot of goodwill from me because of films like "Operation Condor", "Supercop", "Armor of God" and so many others. Here, though, he plays off a terrible cast and gets out-acted by Amber Valleta somehow.

Ok guys.

What We Do In The Shadows

Is there anyone here who DIDN'T like love this movie? There must be some of you out there. It's only a 7.6 on IMDB, but it's 96% on RT.

It has become one of my favorite movies ever. And this weekend I told a close friend about it and told him that he and his wife HAD to watch it. I knew they would love it. They have similar senses of humor. Then I get a text saying they HATED it. I didn't realize this was possible. I am kind of shaken... like I don't even know my GB.

Is there really people that hate this movie?!?

loved it.  Not sure what there is not to like - great skewer of MTV-like reality shows.

Is it available on Netflix?  I did a search and can't find it

Liked it a lot.  Really hit my type of comedy, plus I like a lot of vampire/werewolf stuff.  (Though not all... and I mean you, Twilight!  :boxing:  )

I can see that type of humor not working with some people though, so not surprising to me if otherwise sane people don't care for it.

10/10 for me...time to rethink that friendship!

7.6 on IMDB is a joke

I watched this last night.  It was funny but I didn't love it like several of you guys.  I'd give it a 7 out of 10.  As for why people hate it, I think people get accustomed to the standard formula of an American comedy, action movie, drama, etc.  When something doesn't seem to fit that (this one doesn't) they sometimes don't really give the movie a chance.

Also, the movie is really stupid.  In comedy that isn't necessarily a bad thing but it gives a viewer a reason not to like it.

From the description on Amazon and this review, I know I'll enjoy it and my wife will absolutely hate it. Unfortunately she has no tolerance for "stupid funny" movies

:o

I'd actually argue that the subtle, intelligent humor is what takes this movie from an 7/8 to a 10 for me.
Could you give me an example of the subtle, intelligent stuff?  (You're probably right.  Just nothing is coming to mind.)  I guess by "stupid" I mainly mean the whole premise of the movie is stupid.

Just little things like subtle looks to the camera, 1-off lines like "Do you think he even hand sanded this? Lame" when he's looking at the vampire hunter's stakes, the way each character is played perfectly (Stu for example).

It's a mockumentary... it's meant to be somewhat silly. But this one was levels above 'stupid' imo, if you watch it with the right mindset.

I guess I understand that some people might not 'get it'. I just don't want to be friends with most of those people.  :P

Yes, you're right.  Silly is a better term for what I meant.

decent first episode.  boring after.  longer than it needed to be.
also, pretty loose use of the word "genius".  Just because some said she was brilliant I'm not buying it.

I really thought they would go into how she manipulated and used people. They sort of said it a few times, but there really wasn't anything there that made you say 'wow, she was good'.

I liked it overall though. It was interesting and had a satisfying enough conclusion (for me).
