I think it's Hulu, but we've started up The Looming Tower. compelling stuff, even though something's a little amiss with it after the first 3 episodes. can't put my finger on it, but it might be the writing.. a bit heavyhanded and obvious.

The Looming Tower is excellent.  Not sure how accurate it is, but so so good.

gave up based on my previous review... we never finished it. might try it up again if we find time.

Interesting.  Maybe I'm more of a simpleton.  :)   We are five episodes in and about the only aspect that gives me pause is the feeling that the drama in Jeff Bridges character's personal life is extremely exaggerated but I don't know that for sure.  Saarsgard, the guy playing Ali, the guy playing **** Clarke, and Alec Baldwin are all excellent imo.

Life of Brian debate from 1979.  Really interesting stuff here.  Gotta love Michael Palin.  John Cleese comes off as (naturally imo) pissed off but Palin I think was genuinely hurt that the movie was being criticized in this way.
I made it about half way through. The two old guys were working a total straw man, telling Cleese and Palin what their movie was about and then complaining about it. After like the third time they did that I realized it was a waste of time.

Peaky Blinders, The Last Kingdom, the Marvel titles and Black Mirror are my top of the list of what to watch. A number of others that I have enjoyed. If I had one title that you had to watch from my recommendation on Netflix it is easily Peaky Blinders. By order of the Peaky Fing Blinders!

i was pretty skeptical and I've only watched the first episode, but Hip-Hop Evolution is actually pretty good.  I was not that familiar with some of the stuff discussed (specific non-commercial individuals part of hip-hop origins in the 70s)

Not sure if it was this thread or the horror thread but thanks for the rec of Frailty with Matthew McConeghey. Solid movie that still holds up well. Check it out.

Watched "Her" with Joaquin Phoenix and the voice of Scarlet Johanson. Spike Jonze flick through and through. Might have been better in the hands of a different director but still pretty good. It's a few years old at this point but it's a version of the future we can see unfolding before our eyes.

I love all of these, although I would have to say Luke Cage drags on a bit at times.

Top Gear UK isn't streaming with Amazon Prime anymore, I think. We were streaming yesterday just fine but this morning it's asking to purchase seasons now. Lame.

New big favorite and a recommendation: Medal of Honor.

Documentary series showcasing Medal of Honor recipients.

I had an idea for a series like this a few years back. My idea was more drama (think Band of Brothers drama than documentary) but otherwise the same and they do a good job with adding drama scenes.

I gave up on maniac for a few weeks. Now going back to finish...and it gets more interesting in the back half. It morphs from sci fi to comedy but in a way that you still care about the characters. Worth seeing it through, imo.

Sinner - pretty dark series, but riveting.  4.5 stars

Bodyguard - solid acting and script, plot interesting enough, 4.0 stars

Outlaw King - definitely a poor mans Braveheart, but I love the genre, 3.5 Stars

Haunting of Hill House - classic genre, and admittedly scary, 4.5 Stars

Most importantly 3/4 come with some decent boobage/nudity

On Amazon, but what are people's thoughts on the show Vikings? We watched the first couple episodes last night. Worth investing in?

New season starts soon. I've enjoyed it although it has fallen off a bit the last couple of seasons. Apparently there's a lot more nudity in the BBC version, it's edited on FX. Not sure if that's what Amazon is showing. The guy that plays Ragnar is awesome. There's a thread here about it.

The Norsemen show somebody recommended is really funny- thanks for that.

Oddly, I just finished Norsemen and decided to start Vikings - just over the past 2 weeks.

Norsemen - loved it. Hilarious, great show on the level of the Office or other great sitcoms.  For me, a great break from some of the heavier stuff I've been watching lately.

Vikings - Just one episode in, and will give it a chance.  I would love to have a show that keeps me interested for 5 seasons. Very disappointed to learn from the comment above that there may be nudity in a different version that Amazon isn't giving us.  That knowledge alone might be a deal-breaker for me.

season 2 of the patriot is pretty bad
damn. did you watch the whole thing?

I got in a couple of them, and something just seemed off in the writing. main character's weltschmerz was funny and endearing in S1, and played well against other characters behaving somewhat normally. now it's just... dunno... exhausting- and the other characters are all acting like bizarro cartoons.

4 or 5 in.

I’m about 1.5 episodes into season 2 of Patriot and it strikes me as pretty much more of the same so far. I loved S1 so I’ll be pretty bummed if it turns bad.

I'm almost finished with Vikings. I love the show. I actually watched a similar show on Netflix-The Last Kingdom-which takes place a little later (Alfred is King, he's a child in Vikings).  The Last Kingdom was one of my favorite shows ever (that I've streamed), top 2-3. I like Vikings almost as much, and wouldn't fault anyone who said it is better. I like well done historical dramas. Liked Frontier too. Both Last Kingdom and Frontier have new seasons coming up, I think next week.

As an aside, I happened to notice that the actor who plays Ragnar in Vikings is one of the leads in that World of Warcraft movie.

I liked the singing in S1 Patriot.

Have t seen it yet so far. I'm going to give it some more time.
Finished ep2 & 3... It's growing on me. And I like the singing (which started about 3 seconds after where I had left off in ep2).

Feels like more of a fable than S1, with magical coincidences lined up to move the plot, and still with a Wes Anderson quirk to too many of the characters.
