Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (27 Viewers)

I'm almost finished with Vikings. I love the show. I actually watched a similar show on Netflix-The Last Kingdom-which takes place a little later (Alfred is King, he's a child in Vikings).  The Last Kingdom was one of my favorite shows ever (that I've streamed), top 2-3. I like Vikings almost as much, and wouldn't fault anyone who said it is better. I like well done historical dramas. Liked Frontier too. Both Last Kingdom and Frontier have new seasons coming up, I think next week.

As an aside, I happened to notice that the actor who plays Ragnar in Vikings is one of the leads in that World of Warcraft movie.
The Last Kingdom Season 3 drops next Monday

New big favorite and a recommendation: Medal of Honor.

Documentary series showcasing Medal of Honor recipients.

I had an idea for a series like this a few years back. My idea was more drama (think Band of Brothers drama than documentary) but otherwise the same and they do a good job with adding drama scenes.
Get the tissues ready.   Great series.  I can only watch one per day they are so emotional.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.  It's a collection of old west short stories from the Coen brothers.

ETA:  The stories get more serious/dark after the first one.  Don't give up after the first one thinking it is just silly.

I just finished homecoming on amazon prime, weird show with a slow burn but I liked it.

Up next is Narcos mexico on netflix

Narcos Mexico is amazing.  The way the writers humanize these despicable people is incredible.   Might just say screw football and binge the rest tonight.  Its that good.

Great to hear.  The first 2 seasons were amazing but past the Pablo storyline I fell off.  Will check it out tonight as I really want that show to be great again.

If you’re open to a Coen brothers collection of old western stories, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is quite good. In fact, a couple of the stories are excellent.

My ranking of the stories:

1. The Gal Who Got Rattled

2. All Gold Canyon

3. Near Algodones

4. The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs

5. Meal Ticket

6. The Mortal Remains

The top two on my list were great. All the other ones were good. The silliness of Buster Scruggs made it work as a comedic parody for me. The Mortal Remains is the only one I didn’t care for.

Based on your review here I started it last night.  Watched the first 2 episodes, they were great.  Can’t wait to finish the series.  Thank you?

Is this a series or are all of them in a 2 hour movie?

Just got to this part. That’s part of the charm of the show (at least for some of us) - they did it a lot in season 1 too.
I actually loved the songs this season.

Just wrapped it up...ended up really enjoying it, even if ithink the writing stepped down.

Just finished Peaky F@#$ing Blinders. Awesome show, can't wait for season 5, hopefully it hits Netflix as soon as it hits the BBC.

in Norsemen, the bad guy's prosthetic hands are ####### great. he's my favorite character right now, although the zen-like slave is pretty good too.

Against my judgement, the wife put on the Kindergarten Teacher with Maggie glylllllllenllllll. Even though she's fine in it (she usually is), and inexplicably shows her boobs (she usually does) the movie is idiotic.

Adam Sandler 100& Fresh is pretty damn funny.

Not for the kids.

ETA:  And the Chris Farley song is pretty damn touching.

Finally got some OK internet, so streaming is an option.  Got rid of the satellite channels, and have access to Netflix/Hulu/Prime.   As a mostly movie junkie, I will say that I am a bit disappointed in the selection from these services.  Just going through and loading up my queue with stuff, and maybe I have 25 movies between the 3 that I added in?  I thought I would be buried in options or something.

So I guess I have to get on the TV show kick a bit more.   First up was watching S2 of Handmaid's Tale, and I loved that.  I think it's one of the best couple seasons of a show that I have seen recently.  I tried GLOW, but it didn't grab me after 4 or so episodes.   I told somebody I would watch House on Haunted Hill, so I will start that tonight probably.   Loaded up a bunch of shows new and old.  I am sure I will find something.

Yeah, I gave up on GLOW after about 4 episodes too. Decent idea, I thought it would get better.

Btw...only made it 2 episodes of House on Haunted Hill.

you may want to consider Filmstruck for quality movies. i'm sort of with you in that the trio services do not carry the collections they once had. TV, sure, but not cinema. Amazon at least makes renting a good film possible with cheap rental fees.
