Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (11 Viewers)

Murder Mountain hasn’t really sucked me in after two episodes.  I’m bailin
I thought it was pretty good.  Not to jump on the wistful-wagon but a couple years ago there would have been a five page thread on this already.  Everybody in our house seems to have a few strong opinions, even the dog.

I barely made it through S2 of High Castle. Gave S3 a shot and gave up after a few episodes. Great premise, poor execution, imo.

If you're into dark (or maybe more like adult) comedies, you should check Catastrophe on Prime. Mindhunter on Netflix is good too. S2 should be starting soon. And I'll highly recommend Handmaid's Tale again.
I’ll check that one out

mindhunter is awesome but handmaids tale kinda sucks

Sucks may be harsh, it’s well made, I just thought it was boring and over-rated.  I think my expectations were too high going in, was expecting groundbreaking TV and it’s just...meh
I could see that. I wasnt expecting groundbreaking but found it to be original and well made. I was never bored with it.

shetland was another pretty good bbc police detective drama show that really makes you think about stuff and will make you probably a better person if you watch it take that to the bank bromigo

Just discovered there is a 4th season out there (not on Netflix though, so you’ll  have to use other means to get it). Pretty sure a good chunk of my evening is about to be spent on my (non-wicker) couch binging it.

Finished Season 3 of Travelers.. Really liked it..

Not nearly as confusing as last season and the last 3 episodes had many  moments so won't spoil them...

Version 2.0, aka Season 4, can't get here soon enough!
I watched all three seasons (started over the holidays since I had a good amount of time off). Good show, looking forward to the next season.

I would like to hear reviews on what I have in the queue

the rain

when heroes fly

dark

What still remains

Dark - hard yes for me, loved it even with bad English dubbing

What Still Remains - horrible, what doesn’t remain is a decent plot
Dark is great. Agree to go with subtitles and not the comically bad dubbing.

Lol at what still remains... I watched that one recently and yeah...really bad. Wish I had bailed early.

I think the rain is that Scandinavian one? I made it about 10 mins if so- complete drek.

I seriously can't believe you guys are recommending shows that premiered on lifetime with a straight face. Im pretty sure if my wife caught me watching this she'd leave me for a real man.

If you're an Ellen fan at all (and even if not), she has a stand-up special for the first time in 15 years.  It's pretty good and worth watching.   I like her, so that helps.

A real man would keep his wife in the kitchen or the bedroom

Do you just go thread to thread looking to point out avatars? Maybe push away from the keyboard for a while.
I just don’t think it’s the image they are trying to convey.  What if there was a message board of guys sporting your wife or daughter as their avatar

Did you get in trouble for a post and now acting like a child in the rest of the forums? This is an official picture taken off of my favorite teams website for the purpose of promoting their team. I’d be happy if my wife or daughter were paid to advertise for a sporting team and people used said image as it would mean they were successful in their ad campaign and would hopefully be hired for more gigs.

I know it might be tame by Internet standards but i just don’t think it’s a good representation of the culture here

Finished Castle Rock on Hulu.  I was underwhelmed but I like how it wrapped up.  The one episode that focused on Spacek's character was excellent, though.

Started Fortitude last night on Prime.  I'm intrigued.

that spacek episode was one of my favorite bits of tv for a while.

oh- fortitude... forgot about that one. it's worth your time. not top tier, but worth the watch. good performances, crazy landscapes, kinda interesting story. and sheriff dan.

I suspect many FFA posters are like me- young enough to understand social media and influencers and millenials' relationship with them, but old enough to think it's all kinda silly and to enjoy watching "kids these days" get taken down by their own naivete, superficiality and stupidity.

If so, I'm here to tell you that the Fyre Festival saga and resulting documentaries (obviously only seen the Hulu one, Netflix one out on Friday) are our heroin. I started watching at 10:45 last night and ended up watching the whole thing.  Will definitely do the same with the Netflix one.

A good friend of ours is a doctor, works in hospital in NY and also has a secondary job for a company that provides doctors to festivals, events, etc..

He was actually at this thing. We had lunch with them like 2 weeks after and he had some pretty funny stories. Companies like his always collect upfront and handle their own accommodations, so he didn't have to deal with most of the stuff that the people who went did.

Anyone have a cap on what they think Netflix is worth? I heard a coworker saying he never watches it and will be canceling, I was pretty surprised that a $2 hike would be someones breaking point.

$16 is still very reasonable, IMO.

We have t-Mobile so our subscription for Netflix is free .. But yea, unlimited ad free movies for under $20/month ...

Woah you are seriously burying the lead here.

Yeah I had no idea

Don't mind the price hike but all these services start adding up... netflix $13. Spotify $10. Prime $120/12...
There will be formidable competition fully in the market within the next 2 years, so I have to see what they’ll be offering and at what price point, but as of now, I think Netflix is still fairly priced.

NFLX had to sneak this one in there ASAP.  Pretty soon Disney will be rolling out their streaming package too.

BUT, I think NFLX still has some pricing power built in.  I am currently paying ~$245/month for my cable/internet and phone bundle.  I'll be calling my provider this week to get this significantly lessened.  If I can't get it down to 160 range, I am going all in on Internet only.  I think I can get a decent package for $75/month.  Even adding in $25/month for NFLX, $40/month for YouTube TV, $15/Month for HULU - I'm still only at $150/Month

And let's be honest, 95% of the content on NFLX is terrible. There is just sooooooooooooooooooo much content, that the 5% of good content is still 1000's of hours of quality viewing material.

What I wonder, as everyone launches their streaming services and pulls their content away from Netflix, how good will their original content be, and will it be worth keeping me from signing up to these other providers.

ETA: A good portion of the content we stream is for the kids, I find it hard to believe Disney won't be much better for them than Netflix. For now, they can continue raising prices, but if these other players start putting out excellent content, I think it will put more pressure and make these increases come under more scrutiny. Think they've got one left to the $18-$20 area before the market becomes more saturated and people will begin to question if the increase is worth it.

I watched the first episode of "Tin Star".  It didn't hook me, but I could be convinced to invest in a few more episodes.  Is it worth it?

My two favorite comedies of all time are now available on Netflix:  Monty Python and The Holy Grail and Swingers

Wifey is out of town this weekend, probably gonna enjoy that special gummy bear I got from coworker and giggle myself silly one night
