the mom has an eight month affair with the guy AFTER he kidnaps and molests the daughter
it got unbelievable and I thought the whole thing may be satire but nope  

I read the the victim pushed hard for the documentary. The parents had to have known how dumb they’d look. 

 
I was scrolling through TV shows on Cinema and noticed Doom Patrol.  I use to read that comic so many years ago I had forgotten about it.  I watched the first episode it was pretty entertaining.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I enjoyed this flick.  A poor mans version of Die Hard and there are a few things stolen directly from DH.  I guess a poor mans version of Die Hard would be called Die Hard 2, but I thought this was better than Die Hard 2 which I know isn't saying much.  It's not well acted, it has an "annoying daughter" character that gets into trouble. But it was fun entertainment.

About to watch the final episode (episode 6).

One of the best shows I've ever watched. This is a 100% must watch. Absolutely incredible.

it hits some big bumps along the way with some goofy motives/writing (for the motives/actions), and I found the who-dunnit reveal to be cringe/groan-worthy.

that said- the rest is pretty excellent and still justifies watching this, IMO. great casting and acting- especially raza (eta: Nabhaan Rizwan... google says it's his tv debut), who gives a star-making performance. paddy considine is fantastic, as is most everybody else. I think the expression is "mise en scene"- the show nails it (at least to an outsider)... putting me into the sounds, looks and feel of a london I'd never get to know (immigrants, council-housing, kebab-shops, art-school, etc) that even if fake, never felt it. well filmed, well acted, well written (in terms of dialogue)... just has some moments that make you question what's going on (unfortunately) and an truly unfortunate reveal.

I hope how it ends up keeps you feeling that way... I guess it didn't for me, even though I still genuinely liked it and would absolutely recommend it.

We watched the first episode last night. It has to pick up, right? Episode one was laying the groundwork, I’m sure but we won’t make it if the future episodes are in the same vein.

I thought the 1st ep was amazing, but it's about putting you in the time and place more than having stuff happen- and it does that about as well as I've ever seen. the action picks up a bit, but it's not an "action" show, if that's what you're looking for.

tbh, I thought the Informer 1st ep was better than The Wire's. 

the 6 episode season doesn't really give it time to breath the way the Wire does, and like I mentioned, I found some of the accelerated decision making/writing a bit questionable. it definitely doesn't wrap as successfully as the Wire, but I found it pretty compelling TV.

You can sense that the old FBI agent is still angry at the parents.  I don't blame him, as I was enraged... I needed a 20 minute "cool down" afterward.  The whole thing was just sickening

Yep. I can honestly say no TV show or movie has ever caused a visceral reaction in me like this one. I wanted to jump through my TV and smack the #### out of the dad.  

 
yeah, been mentioned plenty but Abducted in Plain Sight is simply W.T.M.F.  

I'm usually not one to be effected by subject matter, but this movie made me effing sick.  

 
Cricket Fever chronicles the 2018 season of the Mumbai Indians.  I found it strangely compelling and would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in cricket.  The mother / son owner combo is a disaster but fun to watch.

 
Tried a couple comedies the last two nights- Deadbeat on Hulu and After Life on Netflix.  

Deadbeat is with the bigger guy from Tucker and Dale.  He is a loser that can see ghosts, and tries to help them out.  Laughed a hit at the first episode, so will probably give a few more a try.  

I love me some angry, snarky Ricky Gervais, so I laughed a bit at the first episode of After Life too.  Seems like there might be some underlying heart to it too, so it's not just hours of him calling everyone a C.

Definitely.  We just watched all 6 episodes today.  Loved it.

i like Gervais a lot but he's lost his fastball. "Derek" was awful, for example. I'm coming around to the notion that Merchant is the better comedian of the duo for my tastes. 

 
Watched Close over the weekend, meh. Was ok but nothing to write home about. The heroin is a badass but you don't get enough of that IMO. They also try to develop a backstory but do a halfass job at it.

Started The Order yesterday. This any good or is it 16 year old popcorn type stuff?

 
finished S1 of "Get Shorty" last night. only 10 episodes in the season which is about right for what it was going for. I'd recommend it over a number of other series - like, say, Ozark - that get talked up here. forget the movie with Travolta a few years back. this is more fun.

Huh. Good to know... I enjoyed the movie quite a bit, but didn't see or understand a point to the show. Will check out out.

i thought the same but it's solid. i haven't seen the Travolta film since it came out back in the day. i'm not in an hurry either to revisit it because this show worked.

 
Get Shorty the show and movie is like Fargo the show and movie... Somewhat similar and draws inspiration from but different. Thought Get Shorty the show was pretty good, better than Ozark which I liked although still haven't finished.

 
I saved Get Shorty to my queue when it came out, but agree with Floppo and wasn't in a rush to watch it.  Now I will try to find time to watch it.

we'll have to agree to disagree on this point. Ozark wasn't *bad* but it wasn't really any good. the writing, in particular, made it hard to enjoy.

I'm closer to fool than joffer here- I did like Ozark, but found it a bit off from top-tier stuff... agreed, because of the writing (which is still decent, just had some issues with plot driving items more than character/dialogue writing).

 
"I'm Sorry" is a sitcom from TruTV of all places and S1 on Netflix now. It's pretty damn funny, too. Wife isn't prone to bursts of laughter but she was doing it here. Great, slightly raunchy (but with heart!) humor about a married couple with a kid in LA. Supporting cast of Judy Greer, Jason Moutonhanzankis , and others.

I watched this with my wife over the last couple days. It was the first show we've binged together in a long time. Even after finishing it I really have no idea what compelled us to watch it in every free moment we had at home (we don't have many). I had only a minimal understanding of the rules from playing in the street with some kids in England like 30 years ago, and she knew absolutely nothing about the sport. Even after watching we don't really get it all. And it's not like there was anything particularly remarkable about the team/season they documented. But somehow we got hooked. I even googled to see when the next IPL season starts and whether it's available on American TV (less than two weeks from now, and apparently a joint ESPN/Willow TV broadcast deal).

My current theory on its strange allure is that the sport is perfect for documentaries because one team plays offense for half of it then the other team tries to beat their score, which generates drama. Also there's the cultural aspect- it was fun to get a window into another culture without feeling like you're being taught a lesson or called to correct some injustice.  It was just Indian people caring about sports.

Did you watch Derek? You have to get over Gervais playing a mentally challenged man (Tropic Thunder!), but it's an awesome show guaranteed to cause a lot of feels.

Had never heard of it until the couple of posts in here.  

 
Just watched Triple Frontier.  A big ol meh.  It had so much potential but just really never connected.  I did like they left it open ended for a sequel
