DEVS... anybody?

wife signed up for a week of free Hulu- and we're watching it... 2 or 3 in. not sure where I am on it yet, but will keep going. seems interesting.

Finished both seasons of After Life in 2 days.

Sad, extremely funny and very well done.

Interactions with his dad, his office, the postman and interviewing new stories for their paper all  :lmao:   :lmao: :lmao: .

Wish there was a Season 3 starting tomorrow.

McMillion$ is on Hulu.
Just wanted to thank you for posting this as I had been wanting to see this and have been cable/HBO free for 18 months or so now.

Watched the whole thing yesterday :oldunsure:   Was good, not great, but kept my interest

The Platform- In the future, prisoners housed in vertical cells watch as inmates in the upper cells are fed while those below starve. Really liked this despite the ending. 8/10.

Operation Odessa- Documentary about three friends set out to hustle the Russia mob, Cali Cartel and the DEA. 7/10.

Deuces- Middling crime movie about an undercover agent infiltrating a crime ring.  Nothing new or overly great here but Meghan Good is always worth a watch. 7/10.

Time to Hunt- Korean movie about four guys who rob an underground casino...as expected, chaos ensues. Really liked this one. 9/10.

Extraction- New release with Chris Hemsworth, who plays a mercenary hired to rescue a kidnapped kid. Lots of good action here. 8/10.

The Plagues of Breslau- Polish movie about a police officer who hunts a serial killer who kills at 6 pm. Nothing overly great here but VERY graphic. 7/10.

Sergio- Biopic about UN diplomat played by Wagner Moura (he also starred as Pablo Escobar in the Narcos). I had no idea who this UN diplomat even was and Moura does a great job as usual.  Liked this more than I thought I would 8/10.

Fauda, Season 3- Jewish/Palestinian mercenary series. Loved the first two series and this is still as good. 8/10.

Freud- Young Freud helps investigating a series of disappearances. Was hoping for more but found this a slog. 5/10.

Coffee- & Kareem- Sort of buddy cop movie starring Ed Helms. Some decent laughs, worth a watch. 7/10.

Uncorked- Young man upsets his father by not following him into the BBQ business. Unlike most of the Netflix movies, this is actually worthy of a theatrical release, its that good, 9/10.

I don't get the After Life love at all
Have only seen two episodes of the new season.  Not as good as season 1, but season 1 was the best thing I saw in 2019.  But, I find Gervais funny, so take my account with a grain of salt.

Want to kill an hour and a half with a great true crime documentary? Look no further.

Operation Odessa Trailer

This shiz is INSANE. And entertaining AF.
Thanks for the suggestion above, crazy ####- I've been to Porky's in the early 90's and had no idea it was an oligarch hangout!

That doc led me to The Legend of Cocaine Island

another unbelievable true story about good ole' boys in Archer, FL trying to bring back a hidden cache of cocaine from a Caribbean island.  A FL man finds 70lbs of cocaine washing up on a foreign beach, buries it and then can't figure out a way to bring it home. I live an hour south of Archer and can easily see these guys trying to put together a scheme to get the buried treasure home to the US. FL Man at his best!

Finished After Life S2.   Not quite as good as S1 as it spun it's wheels a couple story lines a little bit, but still a lot of laughs and a lot of cries which is why I love the show to begin with.  Well worth the 3 hour investment for the season.

the mailman and the hooker?  or the goofy vaudeville show?

  Enjoyed this more than I expected to
Re: The Platform. I enjoyed this until the last 5 minutes.  I get it’s supposed to be reflective of the hierarchy of society,  it the ending made literally no sense at all and tried to come off as smart while doing it

Maybe a little bit of the 2nd for me (I think the hooker and mailman are kinda sweet), but I was talking even more about Gervais and the nurse.  Seemed like a bit of the same dialogue repeated, but again - small quibbles of a show I love.

I watched it and I watched Outer Banks with my youngest. I kind of liked OB a little more but Brews Brothers was entertaining enough. There are some serious series that I never watched but I’m not quite ready to jump in for hours and hours so those two were quicker you can watch the series in a few days.

Outer Banks is really good.  Best Netflix series in a while - great setting and vibe.
My 16 year old and I ran through it this weekend. It was entertaining if you can suspend all belief for a while.
Side note: was it necessary to always refer to the guy as John B?

FLOWERS

2 seasons of 25min episodes (6 each). Absolutely depressing and one of the most "Wrenching" series ive ever watched, despite its underlying comedic spin. The show bothered me in a mental sense.

Director/producer's aim was to show whatg its like living w mental illness, in a quirky british comedic take.

I enjoyed "Extraction" on Netflix.

Extraction: Netflix

I'm usually a stickler for details and I'm quick to criticize dumbness in movies (drives the wife nuts)

... ie when a dude touches two wires together and the car starts ... which is NOT how you start a car without a key. ...and they just drive off like the steering wheel isn't still locked.

This one was well done. Story line was pretty cool.

I continue to be impressed with the quality of Neflix productions.

Wrapped it up.

Not exactly covering new sci-fi/AI vs reality ground, but still felt fresh somehow. Nicely filmed and directed, even if some of the pacing and acting (lead actress) was a bit off. I'm adding caveats to praise as I'm thinking and typing...but overall I enjoyed it and would recommend.

zerozerozero on Prime is quite amazing.  Not sure how I didnt know about this but its really good.  Pretty vast storyline and gets tense a lot.  strongly recommend.  Lots of violence.

Finished up After Life S2.  Can't think of too many shows that have such emotional swings. The whole cast is great too.

Just as good as the first season, imo. Thoros the psychiatrist was so funny. He needs his own show!

No it wasn't.  Holy hell was that bad.  Watched it last night with my wife and son and wish I could get that time back for something else.
I enjoyed the fighting and the sniper head shots were cool. As far as everything else. yeah it was bad. The violence made up for it.

After Life doing it again.  Cant remember a show that makes me laugh and cry so quickly in one episode.  The end of Ep 2 with the meal to kid barging in then right to another video of Lisa.  :lmao:  ----> 😢
I need to check this out. I really liked the early Gervaise but he walks a fine line with me now. I find him to be condescending which even when I agree with him I don't like. Will definitely check this out though.

I've never liked Gervais, but I loved After Life.

If you aren't a fan of "condescending ####### Gervais" (I honestly didn't know there was any other), I should warn you that's all you get in the first episode. I almost didn't watch the 2nd one, but for me, that's when I started to see how rich this show might be.

Almost thru season 1 of Penny Dreadful. Story kind of bounces around but still very entertaining.

Mash up of Frankenstien, Vampires, and the Exorcist.

Very entertaining. Lots of violence nudity and sects stuff ... so not something to watch with family.

New offshoot - Penny Dreadful City of Angels recently started on Showtime. It looks to be different characters, but a similar theme to the one you are watching.

Funny, I loved the show as well and when I finished S2 I decided it was almost as good as S1.  However, the psychiastrist bothered me.  He had a couple of lines that made me laugh, but overall I thought they drove that one trick pony joke into the ground.

I was a big fan of the show in spite of how silly it should have been. Somehow never got silly, and was done with some great production values and food acting.

Saw the promos for this offshoot and thought it was going to go silky, so haven't bothered. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I am three episodes in and I love it. There are different kinds of condescending. I am not sure I would call what he is doing here exclusively condescending. Like I said so far I love it. I sort of relate to his philosophy of not caring about living/dying. I get it. I am not saying that is a good thing.

With most other shows. I'd agree. But this one has so much of "what's behind the mask" that I think it's different. Clearly, something happened to the psychiatrist before the last episode and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't delve deeper into him next season. I mean, he's totally unqualified for his job, at least from what we've seen of him. Maybe they'll go the obvious route that he's actually gay but I think there's more to him than what they've shown so far. I just laughed at the over the top dialogue from him though.

This show is very underrated imo. Eva Green, Dalton, and Hartnett are all really good in it and it's just crazy enough to work while still somehow making sense and tying all the stories together.

Bad Education on HBO. Based on a true story, great characters and great acting. I don’t really like Hugh Jackman but he does a good job. Allison Janney is great in this. Recommend.

Finished season 1 and liked it. Will catch season 2 this weekend. Regarding the cast my only problem is trying to not think about the Red Wedding each time he visits his dad. 😆

LOL

I could not figure out where I knew this guy from and this just jogged it from my memory.

Him I recognized since he was also a lead in that show The Strain. The psychiatrist I never would have recognized if it wasn't mentioned in this thread.
