A lot of it is sexuality. A bunch of Euphoria episodes seem to center around big parties or other venues that lend themselves to provocative behavior. No one bats an eye at bathroom sex or open drug use. I'm not saying that this is a realistic portrayal.

All of Us Are Dead is definitely not a show exploring teen sexuality but the cultural differences are on display nonetheless. The girls do wear short skirts but almost invariably with gym shorts or even sweats on underneath. And if a couple so much as holds hands, others in the group stare wide-eyed at the open display of affection.

I don't want to make very much of all this, it was just really interesting to me while watching both shows.
I mean you are comparing a show about zombies to a show about drugs/sex. Im not sure if its cultural difference or just the subject matter.

started watching the ep with Conan.. pulled the plug partway through. as you say-  the actual improv and show wasn't as zany as the concept.
I wonder if part of the problem is that Conan didn't seem great on the improv aspect.  I wonder if the guest star will be the biggest reason the show is good or not.  Rather than having "stars" but have guys that are good at improv and it probably improves a lot.

Finished season 2 of The Leftovers. The season finale was really good and the show overall is good but not great. It holds my interest and I'm rarely bored but I'm not really psyched about seeing each new episode. I'm not sure if they had a smaller budget in season 2 but the use of a lot of standard network TV drama camera techniques was a big distraction to me. That's my problem but one I find a lot and really takes me out of a show.

Still, it's a good show and I'll stick it out through the 3rd season.

I like Murderville, but can also get people not digging it. The format is kinda dumb but Arnett and the guest stars cracking each other up is funny to me. Reminds me of the old Carol Burnett shows when Harvey Korman and Tim Conway would improv skits and try to crack each other up. A lot of those skits were dumb too, but them bustin each other up made me laugh.

Unfortunately Arnett & Guest star are no Conway/Korman.............that being said it may take some time to find a groove.  I also believe the guest star is the key.  I saw the Conan episode and it was pretty weak.  I will give it more of a chance as I really like the concept but I think they need to go away from name stars and find good improv people.

I ended up watching all 6, and got a few laughs, but I wouldn't recommend it too highly.  I am sure there are worse things to have on in the background.   The episode with Kumail Nanjiani was my favorite since both him and Arnett were both struggling to keep it together.

He was good but Marshawn "going all in" was pretty funny also.  Like he just played it up

Also, spoiler from the marshawn episode

WHen he walk in to the police station behind arnette and knocks the detectives paperwork out of his hand like a bully in school :lmao:

I finished season 3 of Leftovers and it was okay.  The worst part was it seemed like they felt the need to show a shlong every episode.

Even if there was 100 shlongs/episodes of each TV show this year, the ratio of female nudity:male nudity would still be way tilted to the female side.

I thought the Conan episode was pretty funny but you could really tell it was their first episode and they were trying to figure things out. Loved Conan dying eating the chili and then they tried to make him eat some again later in the episode and he was just mime-ing eating it.

Marshawn episode was hilarious.

The Reacher show isn't groundbreaking, but good enough while I wait for the next Boba Fett/Mandalorian to come out.

I laughed at that too.   Was a quick subtle thing in the background and then the guy with the paperwork saying "what the hell?!?!"  :lmao:

No idea if anyone is watching but the Peacemaker show is a fun watch. I’m sure it’s full of holes and it’s a trippy enemy but it can get really funny at times. I’m looking forward to the last two episodes and to be honest, aside from the first Wonder Woman and some of the Batman movies (pre-Twighlight), this might be the best DC movie/show. It’s what the Suicide Squad tried to be humor wise.

It also has some boob shots which I was absolutely not expecting at all.

I watched Suicide Squad for something to do one weekend and hated the Peacemaker character. Saw he had a series and had no interest in it till a friend said give it a try. Watched the 1st one and was hooked, love it. Two thumbs up.

Started Reacher yesterday, 4 episodes in and I like it. Be nice if they could combine Tom Cruises acting with Alan Ritchson's body. Dude is a freaking unit and how I imagine Reacher should look as opposed to the hobbit that is Tom Cruise. He just doesn't speak very well. Still like it, all in.

Watched a really good movie on Netflix this weekend that was recommended, Munich - The Edge of War. It is Autumn 1938 and Europe stands on the brink of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and Neville Chamberlain's government desperately seeks a peaceful solution. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the center of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger. Thought it was really well done.

I've seen some negative reviews of Ricky Gervais' third season of After Life but I enjoyed it as much as the previous seasons, except for maybe some of the secondary characters. Its amazing what he did with such tough subject matters.

Final episode of Reacher is right up there with one of the worst things I've ever seen.

I get what the show is and isn't, but I mean, come on.

finished  reacher  today
never read the books and it was tough to get cruise out of my head for the character

it was pretty good for what it is
had the typical cliché moments that are to be expected in these type of shows
i will watch the 2nd season but it is not OMG hurry up at get here like i was for other series

Vigilante is freakin' hilarious. so dumb, so loyal, so violent.

The contrast between how the South Korean teens in All of Us Are Dead are portrayed versus the teens in Euphoria is, uh, something.
I’m 3 episodes in, it’s good so far. Korean zombies are always so crunchy, with contortionists doing some crazy reanimation moves. I dig it.

my youngest daughter is a big Japanese anime fan and is the genre she picks to watch. She has us watching Death Note on Netflix. I really like it. I guess there is a movie version that she says is awful, but the animated series is really good. I think it's written or made by the same people who made Attack on Titan, which is also pretty great.

Count me as another "better concept than a show" for Murderville.  I watched the Conan and Marshawn episodes, and only remember laughing one time in each of them.  I've always been a Conan fan but he just sucks at improv apparently and was too stiff.  The entire episode he just has that "what the hell am I doing here" look.  Marshawn jumped in eagerly but is obviously no comedian.  Looking at the rest of the lineup - Kumail, Sharon Stone???, Annie Murphy, and Ken Jeong....I think I'll wait to see if Season 2 actually casts any real improv'ers...

Sharon Stone was actually good..... not in a comedic way but as in I'm a ####### detective way

I enjoy Reacher - but it's got it's warts

-I prefer the smooth delivery and writing of the lead n the first movie over the obnoxious deliver in the series

-The star of the series is the female detective

-A little tired of keep being shown how big the guy is

-Show doesn't breathe - it's back to back scenes to to put Reacher style on display.  There's times in the investigation I have to ask myself "how did they get here again?"

I finished Station Eleven and enjoyed it very much. It’s quite thought provoking and I am humbled by its messages. Most likely it won’t be back for another season although I’m not sure it would be the same if it did. A lot of depth and emotional power throughout the series. I highly recommend it.

It just kills me every time On-Jo kicks that guy in the back of the leg and knocks him down.  She just moves on to something else while he’s writhing on the ground holding his hammy, and it makes me laugh every time.

The Girl in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window on Netflix is pretty hilarious.

It's a spoof on all those types of books/shows.

Kristen Bell is the lead. I thought it was funny.
