Severance finale was pretty crazy. Big revelation about one of the main characters that I have to admit I did not see coming. Can't wait till next season.

made sense after the fact (and I kept wondering about the backstory that would lead to that character choosing the procedure)... but yeah, hard to see that one coming.

We just finished Inventing Anna (Netflix) - would recommend.

***************
We had to stop watching the other night because I started hyperventilating / having a panic attack. Because at the end of E7,  “Todd” - her criminal defense lawyer - pops up on her cell phone as Todd Spodek.

I immediately stopped the show and Googled “Anna Delvey lawyer.” Bunch of pictures of the actual, RL lawyer in court with Anna Sorokin…

random IG account - bunch of court pictures of Anna & Todd

Years ago, Todd Spodek was my lawyer in my child custody case. Paid that dude…a LOT in fees. Surreal. So friggin’ weird. Totally freaked me out. 100K [lawyers] in New York and mine is on Netflix?

Anyway, good series.

11.22.63 ... a time travel, science fiction-ish series based on the Steven King's book of the same name.

Its the series that got me to buy Hulu in the first place after listening to coworkers.  I liked it.  In fact, I may need to rewatch
I just finished 11.22.63. I thought it was very good.

S2 of War of the Worlds is out...I think on Epix. Decent show...our Epix trial is about to end though, so will have to wait on S2.

Has anyone started We Own This City yet?
I have really complicated feelings on this one.  Most of the time, The Wire was so great at showing rather than telling but We Own This City seemingly has a ton of unnatural, explanatory dialogue.  I guess that's needed when you have 6 episodes rather that multiple seasons but it feels so much less natural.  The story itself is just a tough watch, especially given that I saw it play out here in real time.

The post-Freddie Gray fallout/lack of policing here is all-too real.  It was totally jarring to hear a character say "Mayor O'Malley promised less than 200 homicides this year (maybe 2004?)" knowing that Baltimore had 337 in 2021.

Since the search function is garbage, and I'm not scrolling through hundreds of pages.... I'll just ask now:

Anyone watching Outer Range with Josh Brolin on Prime?

I watched S1E1 on plane yesterday and contemplating watching the entire season if I can get confirmation that it's worth it...

TIA

a few of us in here have been talking about it. I keep forgetting to watch it after catching the frist 2 or 3 as they came out. totally enjoyed it up to that point and was looking forward to seeing wth was going on.

It was ok.  I would give it a chance and see if it brings you in.

Not really a ringing endorsement.  Is it tied into the Lambs/Hannibal story, or are they just using the character for another recycled network procedural detective show?

Just finished Severance.  It's not a series you can watch while multi tasking.  It required my attention to understand and follow the story.  I started E1 a couple of times before I realized I would have to wait until I could sit and watch it without distractions and be fully alert.

There was something really weird about the brother in law (Ricken), and the entire collection of that couples friends. For example when the one guy found the baby in the bedroom in the last episode, and ran through the house saying, "I found your child!  I'm the one that found the her!"  Just odd.

I liked it!  Looking forward to S2.

"We Crashed"  (Apple TV)

I think I enjoyed this series.  I wasn't familiar with the story so that made it more interesting to me and I kept myself from reading about the company until I was done watching.  Both lead characters were obnoxious, makes me wonder if they were that insufferable in real life.

Anne Hathaway was really hard to watch.

I downloaded the next 3 episodes of S1 to watch on my flight home today.  Will report back.

Update after watching S1E2.... something weird is going on, and I'm intrigued enough to watch E3-4 on my plane from DEN to Orange County.

Anyone watch Pachinko on AppleTV? On paper it's right up my alley but I dozed off midway through ep1. A friend said it was amazing but I'm not getting the hype.

Finished the first season of Julia. I see it has been renewed for a second but I won't be watching. It was ok but I would have rather seen it more focused on actual Julia Child storylines instead of making up characters to fulfill an agenda.

I always felt Ricken was kind of a wannabe cult leader, borderline parody, pretentious jerk who almost accidentally writes the manifesto that helps Mark stage a revolt. The actor playing him must be having a great time.

Watching Manifest on Netflix... just started season 2.  There has been limited buzz in here about it, but I find it entertaining.  Getting a little predictable now, but still enjoyable.

Been watching Mythic Quest - I guess it’s good? I like it but also feel like I’m just sort of looking to finish it now. I’m not sure why - just missing something. It’s funny but I only laugh out loud every now and then; the story itself is good enough but I’m not completely grabbed by it. Was expecting something more, I guess.

I love Mythic Quest only because I can feel the IASIP tones creeping in

I really liked it. It reminds me of a not as good Silicon Valley. It’s not quite the same premise but is in the same type of office/tech humor, again not at that level.

The first season had an episode that I honestly thought was a different show at first. I actually liked that episode a lot once I realized I didn’t accidentally switch to a different Apple show. I looked it up and it was episode 5.

Final season 4 is expected towards the end of this year. It got a little bit like Lost where you started to wonder if they knew where they were going with it but the season 3 finale was crazy. There were a small group of us that would comment on it and were upset NBC cancelled it. Netflix is doing the final season to thankfully wrap it up.

we're another 1 or 2 into it... not sure I'm if I'm going to like or dislike the direction the aliens have gone. right now it feels like a bit a of cheaping out on special effects, tbh.

Finished Tokyo Vice this weekend. Overall I enjoyed it. The ending was a bit of a letdown. But it was a good show.

I can't say I disliked it because I watched the entire thing and it was enjoyable, but yeah, the ending was strange for me.  None of the major plotlines were resolved but at the same time there weren't any cliffhangers or really anything of interest going on at the end.  I wonder how that fits in with the book.

I’ve been watching The Pentaverate on Netflix. I think it’s pretty funny.
If you’re not a Mike Myers fan it’s not for you though.
Watched the first episode on the train this morning.  Very weird.

Love Mike Myers,  so I'll keep going...but none of the characters he's playing were all that funny. Canadian reporter was ok

I’m not a big Trekkie but I enjoyed the premiere of Strange New Worlds on Paramount+. It and Halo might cause me to hang onto my subscription after the cheap trial period ends, for a little while at least.

Yeah, how do we do spoiler tags?  I tried following the intro post instructions but it didn't work.

[spoilers] doesn't work [/spoilers]

I usually just do something like this:

SPOILERS     SPOILERS    SPOILERS

Then write spoilers here.   It gives people warning and then they can move on if they don't want to read it.  I haven't seen a complaint from this type of effort to conceal spoilers.

If you need an example of how society has progressed for the better over the last 40 years, go catch some The Love Boat episodes on Paramount. I put this on when I need help falling asleep.

It is cringeworthy and disgusting the ways dudes used to hit on women back in the early 80s. And they glorified this on network TV.

Women dont like getting hit on anymore?  Glad I'm not single.

After watching the premiere I’m pretty much right with you. I don’t really mind some of the preachy speechifying. The Wire had its share of that too. But what seems to be missing, at least from what I’ve seen thus far is any examination of the inner and personal lives of the characters. So we get DOJ attorneys who ‘s only role is to explain enforcement of consent decrees. And police chiefs whose only role is to explain the difficulties in enacting reform.

The series still works as a police procedural, but the rest feels kind of like a term paper as opposed to drama.

Watched the first three episodes of The Staircase. I suppose I’m the target audience in that I watched the entire documentary series.

I think the jury is still out on this one (please forgive the obvious metaphor).  Colin Firth does a very good impression of the actual Michael Peterson (a character I managed to dislike in the docuseries despite never being close to being convinced he killed his wife) and the dramatization does a decent job of juggling the many kids and step-kids and their own unique issues and attitudes.

The show appears to be all-in on a theory that never really made it in the documentaries.

I’m a bit surprised, however, by how quickly the show kind of moved past a pretty major plot twist to get to the trial.

I think people have mentioned Shining Girls on Apple+?

We're kind of jumping around between shows now, trying to find something that completely hooks us in. We're 2 in on this one... jury still out, tbh. concept is cool, but seems potentially limited and reliant on the Moss character not divulging info (a tired trope, imo)  but we're interested enough to keep going.

Yeah it was alright. A mix of new and familiar characters.

SPOILER Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outer Range pissed me off in the same way Matrix 2&3 pissed me off. This is Lost+Twin Peaks level in the gobbledy#### HOF. Bunch of weird s!+t in every episode to keep you engaged mixed with unbelievable drama to keep the show moving then WHAM!!! The final episode has one reveal and a bunch of nuthin' other than a See You Next Season bomb drop. Eff the writers and their inability to answer the questions they presented over the course of 8 episodes. Bunch of stoopid. See Severance for how to land a payoff AND leave room for another season. It can be done but not by hacks. Strong Do Not Recommend!

Severance hooked me like few shows have in the past couple years.  I binged it over 3 nights. Fantastic acting, writing, music, directing - the whole package.

I liked the first season of War of the Worlds but was disappointed by season 2. Just didn't hold me and kinda went off the rails a bit in terms of plot IMO. I'll give them a little credit for trying to do something different than the typical alien invasion thing but thought the execution was flawed.

I liked Season 1 of Euphoria, the directing/editing/tone of season 2 is weird and inferior in comparison. I liked the little bit of Ashtray's backstory, poor kid.
