Wife mentioned Bumper in Berlin on Peacock, so we watched it over the weekend. Found it pretty funny, a lot of the same slapstick and silly humor from the first two Pitch Perfect movies. If you don’t find Adam DeVine or those movies funny stay away of course. Great move to put Sarah Hyland in the show too, she and DeVine had great chemistry together on Modern Family.

Also finally watched the Weird Al “biopic,” thought it toed the line between silly fun and avoided outright stupid most of the time throughout the film and I laughed quite a bit.

Wow Station Eleven was a masterpiece. First few episodes were slow but pretty perfect towards the conclusion. Highest recommendation if you haven’t seen it yet.
I’m reading the book now. Can’t wait to see the show.

I can’t wait to read the book.

There was a scene in episode 9 that was maybe one of the most emotional tv moments I’ve ever seen.

I've said before in here that the show was way better than the book. You can probably skip it.
I was so-so on the book, but haven’t watched the TV show yet (maybe because I thought book was only so-so, so not too excited about the show). Good to know that show is better.

Wonderful show. I'm waiting awhile longer to watch it again.

"So how do you usually get home?"
"I take the L with Tanya."
"OK, come on. I'll walk you to the L."
"But I can't go with a stranger unless Tanya amd my parents say it's OK."
"OK. Hello, I'm Jeevan Chaudhary. And you're Kirsten....."
".....Raymonde"
"Raymonde, OK. So now we're not strangers."

About halfway through For All Mankind season 3, I was a little confused why everyone said the season sucked. Then… I got it. This is a prime example of some shark jumping.

I just finished The Leftovers and White Lotus and need something similar with amazing acting and writing. Things in my queue are Succession, You, Rectify, Last Kingdom.
Have only seen Succession and Last Kingdom (well only 2 seasons in on this).

Succession is top notch, must watch. Last Kingdom is kind of cheesy in parts so far IMO but is worth watching.

This may have been one of the most satisfying series I've ever watched. Give it six months or so and then do a re-watch and it gets even better. You described it as a masterpiece, I called it beautiful. I think it's both.
I've had this on my watchlist forever and never got around to it. I liked the book a lot. Sounds like this turned out to be a solid adaptation.

Last Kingdom gets better and better and better. We binged it and already miss it terribly.

We binged Mayor of Kingstown and loved it. Extremely gritty.

Netflix - Blood Red Sky.. All I read was. Hijack , seemed easy, doesn't go as planned.. decided to watch..

I had NO idea what I was in for.. And that was a good thing.. Completely caught me off guard..
One of the few movies where starting near the end, then using flashbacks fills in the story very well.

Don't read any reviews.. Just go watch and hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did.
Wow... while I agree with the bolded, I really disliked this movie. To each his own I guess...

Just in case you thought The Last Kingdom was finished, I can’t wait for this to be available.

“With the end of The Last Kingdom on Netflix, the epic finale to the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg will be told through the movie, Seven Kings Must Die. With filming currently ongoing in Hungary, we expect to see Seven Kings Must Die on Netflix sometime in 2023.”

My only issue with Last Kingdom was the main guy kind of had a Sons of Anarchy vibe where he just survived so many situations and was always outsmarting everyone.

I am loving the guy who plays King Alfred (he is outstanding), most of the surrounding characters and the infighting / politics.

Has anyone followed Paul T Goldman (Peacock) ? 5 of 6 episodes are out, setting up an epic finale on Sunday. The best I can describe the show is...darkest timeline of the Rehearsal.

Giving the new season of vikings valhalla a go...really enjoyed season 1.
I'm a sucker for every Viking show made so although I did enjoy it and wish there was more to watch after binging it, felt if was just "ok" compared to others. In for season 3 though. lol.

Knowing that the newest Season 2 was coming, I re-watched Season 1 in binge fashion. I think I actually enjoyed it better the 2nd time through. Anyhow I am midway thru Season 2 and kinda have that same "okay" feeling. I enjoy watching, but I wouldn't call it a monumental must-see. Known caveat - I'm a sucker for Viking stories as well.

Passengers (Prime): Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence spaceship romcom/suspense. I somehow wasn't aware of this movie, can't remember how I heard about it recently and added it to my list. You know how every romcom has the guy misrepresenting himself early, couple falling in love, then the lie hangs over his head, he finally tells her, she gets mad but comes back to him? That again, except that the action/lie from Pratt was so evil that nobody ever should have been able to forgive him for it. I thought the movie was well made (great effects), well acted, looked good all around, and even the suspense part was done well. It's just the magnitude of his lie that overwhelms the movie... they did a good job of showing how furious she was, including an assault that seemed justified, but I just think it's irredeemable. I think that's all I'll be able to remember from the movie if I think about it in the future, so even though everything else was good, that might have ruined it for me.

I like that movie. To me it’s an interesting moral dilemma.

WTF is he like her brother or something? :lmao:

I'll spoiler tag it.
He wakes up mistakenly 30 years into a 120 year spaceflight to a colony planet. He's the only person awake, and there's no way to go back into hibernation. He sees her through her hibernation pod and eventually wakes her up, meaning he's the only person she'll have to spend the rest of her lift with... he teleported her to his deserted island.

Just started watching The Last Kingdom on some recommendations. Really like it. Well written. Super good show. Im 3 episodes into season 2 now

We are enjoying The Lincoln Lawyer on NF.
Did you watch Bosch? In the book series, Bosch and Mickey Haller are half brothers. The Lincoln Lawyer series was entertaining (although I liked the movie more). I though the Bosch series was better than either of those (available for free on Freevee).

One of the cringiest movies of all time. How the twist was handled remains one of the more controversial and tone-deaf movie decisions in the last few years. This film has a well-deserved bad reputation. Still can't believe no one involved, writer, director, studio, thought that it should have been done differently. What a messed up movie.

Oof, yeah, that seems... uncool.

Same, think it gets too much hate. It’s almost a meme level of constant hate on that specific plot point whenever this movie gets brought up anywhere (even though they wrote in a cheap “out” at the end of the movie.) Tick basically brings up the one thing that everyone always mentions, it’s almost to “How can Monica and Rachel afford that apartment?” level of broken record by this point.

The Watcher was just ok. I thought it was a limited series and was not renewed for another season, so at first I was so pissed off at the ending, but I guess I'm in for Season 2.

Succession first episode (y)

The Home Alone kid's brother was such a **** to that kid.

I liked Bosch is a lot better than the Lincoln Lawyer stuff.

Somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know how to use HBO-Max on an iPad with no internet? I opened the app while on airplane and I couldn't access my downloaded episode of The Last of Us.

Succession One of the best shows ever IMO…will reserve ranking until they wrap it up

In this case, I’m completely unaware of anything about the movie’s reputation. This was just my reaction. If others had the same reaction, it doesn’t surprise me. I think I’m pretty forgiving when it comes to movies, but this was over a line for me to the point of ruining a well made movie.

Finished up The Recruit last week. A solid meh from me. Too comedic without being comedy, and it takes the edge off the dramatic/suspenseful parts.
And what is it with these f'ing shows that don't cleanly end a season?? There was no S2 greenlit and it's still not greenlit today. Hate when shows do this. At least tie up the season during the first season.

Yeah this is a known bug and has existed since launch. I find if I go to downloads, start the show while connected and leave the app open in the background it will work when offline. Obviously, that is a crumby work around but does seem to tide me over for train trips and shows I launch before the plane pushes back.

Gonna try this. Downloading S1E1 of Jack Ryan just in case. Thanks.

There was also a workaround about force closing and then putting in airplane mode, then starting

How is Station Eleven any different than The Stand or fill in the blank post pandemic survivalist concept? Willing to give it a go but, how many times can a wheel get reinvented?

I must be the only one who finds some of the characters on Succession annoying. And, by some of the characters, I mean all the kids. Watched first season and never looked back.

Kaleidoscope (Netflix). Meh. I got interested in this because I'm a sucker for "career criminal puts together a crew for one last score" stories, and I figured it must be pretty good if it stars Giancarlo Esposito. Unfortunately the story is over-the-top ridiculous. They're going for "quirky" or something as opposed to gritty realism, but they push it way too hard and it becomes impossible to sustain any kind suspension of disbelief. The ending -- the story is told out of order but I'm talking here about a major plot reveal toward the end of the last episode -- is particularly ludicrous and doesn't stand up to three seconds of scrutiny.

This series also includes a little gimmick in which most of the episodes can be watched in any order. In theory this is interesting, but in practice it makes episodes 2-7 or so feel disconnected from one another.

I got about 4 episodes in before I decided that this isn't really worth watching, but I felt compelled to finish it anyway. I would have been better not to start in the first place. This show is a B-. In the olden days, when we had to watch whatever was on the networks and most of that was total dreck, Kaleidoscope would be well above-average just because it's stylish if nothing else. But in 2022 there's no reason to watch anything below a B+, so this is skippable.
