Summerpalooza V -- Playoffs Over -- Eephus Is Now Two-Time Summerpalooza Champion (5 Viewers)

14.13 - Kyren Williams - RB - LAR - #23

Shuggie Otis - Strawberry Letter 23

I was so bummed to see his number, because I knew that rascal Doug had already taken Strawberry Letter 23. But he took the Brothers Johnson version (which I prefer, too), while the original Shuggie Otis version was available, and most importantly, the original version features George Duke and Aynsley Dunbar. Who cares, you say? Well, my favorite partner's favorite artist is Frank Zappa, with whom both Duke and Dunbar worked closely over the years. Yay, us!
You probably know this, but for the house:

Shuggie Otis was 17 when he wrote and recorded "Strawberry Letter 23". At age 15, Otis had played bass on Frank Zappa's album Hot Rats, and on albums by Etta James and Al Kooper. Otis started playing professionally in fifth grade with his father's R&B band.

B+

I got a B+ my first year of college, and it was the first time I'd ever had lower than "A-" on anything. Pissed me off. But in this situation...I like it.

Attention: I just dropped Sony Michel to make everything fair and square regarding the K and D. Nobody else picked a player, so I figured I'd make it all even since some people didn't know about the rule. I wouldn't feel right holding him. But this also serves as part of an announcement for the future. He's available -- as are all the other players -- to everyone on waivers for Sept. 4th, which is when I assume they run in our league. That means you should get your bid in by September 3rd for players that you want.

Hope this settles everything regarding the draft! Once again, thanks to everybody and let's have a great year!

While we have a break in the action, I'll share that today I discovered this site and I'm dying. Why is this so funny to me?
That molasses spill happened not too far from my house. Some of those are hilarious. The one with the huge block of stone is downright scary.

It's too bad the Tomahawk didn't wreck a car. That insurance call would be fantastic.

I got a B- even though it looks like I have the highest week 1 projected score by a decent amount. I guess Yahoo thinks I'm going to peak early, which is fair.

It’s showing a D for you guys on my update. Sorry to break the news.
Well, my partner is the brains of this operation, and is ‘okay’ with the B+. I’m used to D’s, so both are okay with me.
I got a C, but yahoo sports is named very appropriately imo.

Oh sorry, I was looking at FBG “rate my team,” not Yahoo.

Probably more accurate.

I felt really good about my decision not to participate when I made it. Then I took a FBG hiatus for a couple of weeks, and when I came back, turns out I missed 30-plus pages of my favorite people (plus grammar talk). I was all like :kicksrock:. So now I'm gonna go post in Genrepalooza if only to foment confusion.

We did try to tell people this is the fun, relaxed draft. All trash talk with none of the pressure.

Speaking of which. Did Dalvin Cook ever finally get drafted?

The gift that just keeps on giving..........

In my defense, I was extremely jet-lagged having just returned from 3 weeks in Europe the day prior and trying to keep up with my 30 patient/day schedule while at the same time keeping up with the first day of this draft---obviously the patient care took precedence :lmao:

I'm looking at my team and not seeing how I avoid last like I managed to do last year. My redraft drafts have gotten all suspect since I started playing dynasty and looking through that lens.

Congrats, NV. That sounds good.

Too bad I keep it dry or I’d order something.
We aren't allowed to ship outside Ontario anyway. Still old school liquor laws up here.

That beer is such a big deal for us because we got it listed as a seasonal in the LCBO (liquor control board of Ontario) - basically the government owned monopoly on alcohol. We have 3 permanent beers there and then apply for "Seasonals" which you get listed for a few months then get automatically delisted.

Last year the brewery had 2 seasonals, this year we got 4 (Raspberry Sour, Hefeweizen, this Pumpkin beer and then Black IPA already approved for the winter), which is a pretty big $$$ difference for the overall business.

Anyway, that's probably enough about the ins and outs of Ontario Craft Beer. Appreciate the sentiment Rock, and appreciate you keeping it dry 💪

Are the other provinces this strict?
I think it varies but generally it's fairly strict, in the name of protecting the local breweries I suppose (but the laws are decades old, so "local breweries" probably means Labatt/Molson, which are both no longer Canadian owned anyway).

Out of respect for Johnny Walker, Paul Oakenfold
Nicky Holloway, Danny Rampling
And all the people who gave us these times
And to the government
I stick my middle finger up with regards to the Criminal Justice Bill
For all the heroes I met along the way
(We all sing, we all sing, sing)

Yeah but pumpkin spice
