Summerpalooza V -- Playoffs Over -- Eephus Is Now Two-Time Summerpalooza Champion (2 Viewers)

Condolences, simey. You called him Colio, and he died the day before Coolio?
Yeah, isn't that weird? A lot of times I called him Coolio instead of Colio since the names were so close. Cole was a vocal cat. I wonder if he rapped in cat language sometimes. His chatter seemed like it was freestyling at times. It also gave him a trip inside the bathroom for a timeout when he would do it at 4 a.m. He could practice his vocals in there.

Sorry simey.

My boy Loki’s heart condition seemed to take a worse turn and now instead of just gasping for air when he gets excited or moving he’s getting the hacking reverse cough (which was only a sporadic occurrence in the past) instead. So he’s suffering through coughing fits that sound painful a large number of times a day. I have an appointment with his cardiologist (my dog has a cardiologist and I do not) on Monday. Hope something can be done and this isn’t the new normal.

Thanks, and I hope something can be done for Loki, too. Cole had a heart murmur, but it was a never an issue for him, and always stayed at a #2 if it could be heard at all.

Cole started making a hacking sound last Thursday. It sounded like he was trying to get a hairball out. He only did it once that day (that I know of). Friday he didn't want to finish his food, which is not like him at all. He is very food motivated. Again, I heard him hacking once that day, and again I thought he was working on a hairball. I even put some hairball remedy stuff on my finger and put it on the roof of his mouth (cause he wouldn't lick it off) to help him get it out. Saturday and Sunday he did not want to eat anything. I felt like maybe his Irritable Bowl Disease symptoms were returning after being gone for over a year. I heard him hacking once on one of those days. Monday he ate breakfast and dinner with me encouraging him to do so several times. I called the vet that morning, because he wasn't acting normal towards his food, and he was acting like he did back when he got sick with IBD. I was told the new vet could see him Tuesday late afternoon. He wrestled with his brother that night.

Tuesday he ate only half his breakfast. I heard him hacking once that afternoon. I played with him with a string before we went to the vet. Other than lack of appetite and periodic hacking, he didn't seem seriously ill. We got to the vet, and I told her his symptoms. She said his lungs sounded scratchy and wanted to do some bloodwork and an xray. I said ok. She came back and told me the xray showed his lungs full of fluid, and there was what looked like a large mass in his abdomen. She said they had him on oxygen, and he needed to go to the emergency vet that day to have his lungs tapped, and put in some oxygen chamber or something like that. She said he would not survive the day if he didn't have that done. She asked me if I was willing to drive distances, because emergency vets were short staffed and hard to get in to, especially late in the day. I said yes. She said she felt it was cancer, and the fluid in the lungs was associated with it, and that his outlook was grim, but the only way to confirm all of that was all the test she named starting with getting his lungs tapped, oxygen chamber, biopsy, ultrasound, etc. I was quoted the lung tapping and oxygen stuff would be around $4,000 at the emergency vet. She said the only other thing that could be in his abdomen that wasn't a mass would be trauma like from being hit by a car. Cole doesn't go outside, and the only trauma Cole endured was a few months ago when he missed his jump on to the island in the kitchen, and slid down with his front paws and landed on his side on the hardwood floor. That wouldn't cause that would it? She told me that my usual vet saw the xray, and the specialist at the emergency vet, and they all were in agreement. I was in a state of shock. She also said she didn't know if he would survive the trip to the emergency vet or just being there while I was having to make a sudden decision on his life. I had just played with him an hour before with a string. I did notice at the house that when he was sleeping, he was breathing harder than his brother Archie, and I could hear him make faint squeak sounds, which I now guess were his lungs. Anyway, the vet left the room for a while, and my mind raced. I paced trying to come to terms with what to do. When she came back in, I was very upset. It was hard to get the words to come out of my mouth. I pulled myself together, and I made the decision to let him go. I feel a lot of guilt about that in the event he could have been saved, but a grim outlook is what I based my decision on and the dire situation at the time. He played with his brother the night before, his brother washed him that day, and I played with him, and he ate his favorite treats, and he seemed happy, and I guess that's a good day to go out. The vet told me as she was putting him to sleep that he didn't suffer. I am having him cremated, and I'll get his ashes back. When I left the vet and started my car, Free Bird was playing on the radio, and I felt like it was a sign that his spirit was soaring and with me. I believe in spirits, and even if there isn't such a thing, it's a nice thing to believe, and it brought me some type of comfort at that moment.

I gotta go trek out into the storm briefly.

Well wishes to Loki, Dr. O. 🍀 <--- for Loki

Let us us know what happens Monday. I know Loki is your BFF and I'm worried for you.

The part about his having a cardiologist and you don't made me think of my childhood dog, Ginger. I don't remember why, but at some point my grandma (mom's mom) took her in. My grandma grew up very poor and was country, not a person who'd ever had an animal for a pet but instead only for working purposes or for meat. Ginger was a silly Pekingese, and my grandma always claimed not to like her. But...she got the dog a milkshake every week, and bought two types of bologna at the grocery - the cheap stuff for my grandpa and her, and the "good stuff" for Ginger because Ginger didn't like the cheap stuff.

What we do for our furry friends.

My father and stepmother cooked ground beef every day for their dogs because they thought dog food was gross. On road trips they would get McDonalds' hamburgers.

Condolences @simey . I'm known amongst my friend-group as the person who does not love animals. And yet animals love me...

My Dad, who to this day, into his 80's HATES dogs, brought me a puppy when I was 6ish. He came home from the wood-mill.......where he sharpened saws and proved he was way tougher than me forevermore.....with a beagle puppy (in a cardboard box) and scrap-wood from the mill. I said to my Dad (6 year old paraphrase): "Dad, you hate dogs! Why would you bring me a puppy?!" And he said (word-for-word): "I love you more than I hate dogs."

To be continued....

We named him "Scrappy". "We" (my Dad) built him a doghouse out of the scrap-wood. I was not a great dog-owner, but I loved that puppy.

TBC....

I have three defenses now. :lmao:

I didn't realize that Kadarius Toney could be on IR, leaving me with an extra spot. I dumped Darrel Williams instead of sliding him to IR to make room for Indy's D this week because I did not realize the aforementioned's "O" status. When I looked for a player because I slid Toney into IR, I figured, "Why not another defense?"

It's pure genius like this that makes me who I am as a fantasy manager.

In all seriousness, Detroit might have a NE match-up with Hoyer next week, JAC is fourth in defensive DVOA, and Indy is this week's start. When you're 0-3 and struggling, you get points any way you can get them.

Additions -- musical mascots and a last name:

Indianapolis Defense

Colt 45 - Afroman

Jacksonville Defense

Jaguar - The Who

Detroit Defense

Wait - White Lion

Jake Elliott

Jen Doesn't Like Me Anymore - Less Than Jake

Less than a week later, I came home from school. I did not see Scrappy. I asked my Dad "Where is our dog?" My Dad had to sit little facook down and explain that Scrappy got loose that day and found his way to a neighbor's garage, where he was intrigued by some anti-freeze. My Dad, tears pouring down his face, carried poor little Scrappy to the field behind our home and buried him there.

It's not that I don't really LIKE animals, but the pain never seemed worth it after that. And yet, I often find the dogs and cats of our friends cuddled up to my hip, or licking my shins, or wrapping themselves around my calves when I visit their homes. People sometimes say that animals are true judges of character, and I hope that is true.

Not sure why I'm sharing this, other than to say to Simey - again - condolences. Not sure I could handle loving animals the way so many of you do.

Matthew Berry is rolling over in his grave.

I mean you could drop a defense and pick up an NFL team's 5th receiving option like my last 2 pick ups. You're missing out.

That's exactly why I did it. There wasn't a flyer worth a flyer in the player list. There's one guy that might be a difference-maker if things go wrong, so I should probably pick him up, but again, churn. I try to avoid it. I'm so impetuous, though!

With the sixth pick in round 13, the Hoodoo Guru selects

13.06 RB,
Ty Chandler, Minnesota Vikings

I'll have to pick the song later, apologies.

Makeup Song: Tie Your Mother Down, Queen

My team is in the City of Brotherly Love, and we just visited Cheesesteak Stadium. After the Pass Rush should change its name to After the Pass Out, because I about passed out when I got a whiff of the place. I suspect they put Limburger cheese in their cheesesteaks, cause that place reeks of dirty feet. :yucky:

Nah, that's just the people of South Philly.

Wiz, American and (to a lesser extent) cheddar and provolone are the approved cheeses for real Philly cheesesteaks. If you ask for it with Swiss, as John Kerry did during the 2004 presidential campaign, you will be laughed at.

Hope you're doing OK, @simey . It's hard enough to lose a pet, but to lose one unexpectedly is the worst.
I was just thinking about you as noted above.
On Tuesday our 12-year-old male cat, Cassidy, has an appointment with an Internal Medicine vet after a blood test returned abnormally high levels of white blood cells, particularly eosinophils. That could mean an infection or a kidney issue, but it also could mean cancer. This is the same cat that earlier this year was diagnosed with high blood pressure and had eye surgery.

I hope for the best, and whatever they find it is treatable and not serious.

Where is your favorite place to get Cheesesteaks? My BIL grew up in Paoli, PA, before his family moved to NC when he was in junior high. They still have family in Pennsylvania. Years ago, his dad used to stop in Chester, PA, on his way back to NC, and bring back hoagies from a place called Stackys. I had one and it was good. What I found fascinating is that the hoagie traveled in the car for hours, and it wasn't soggy by the time it made it to NC, and it had oil and vinegar on it.

Of the classic places within the city, my favorite is Steve's Prince of Steaks. (But I have never been to John's Roast Pork, which usually wins the awards/polls.)

On my side of the river in South Jersey, the best cheesesteak I've had -- and thus the one I eat semi-regularly since I don't cross the river all that often -- is at Pat's Pizzeria in Runnemede, NJ. Not to be confused with Pat's Steaks, which is one of the big tourist draws in South Philly (and the place where Kerry tried to order a cheesesteak with Swiss).

Detroit by Tyler Childers

Have you listened to Childers' new album yet? He's done kind of an interesting gimmick with three different versions of the same album. The regular one is his usual soulful Country sound. The Jubilee version are the same songs done up with bigger strings and horns arrangements. The Joyful Noise version is chopped and screwed with beats, tapes and effects. The songs are in there somewhere but it functions more like a dub version. It's more weird than good but it's an interesting listen.

Godwin couldn't have caught one more pass before he got hurt (again). Lost by .14 points this week.
That's tough. In my money league, I lost the championship by .4 points one year, because Pete Carroll had to continue to run Marshawn Lynch down the 49ers throat, even though Seattle was comfortably stomping them. I still hold a grudge against Pete Carroll.

Good vibes and thoughts for Loki today.

I need 2 pts total from Allen Robinson and/or D Henderson to beat @rockaction. I‘m not confident at all.

It keeps changing because you have the Rams defense, too. I believe I hand-selected them for you in the draft. :lmao:

I'm amazed I'm even remotely still in it. Go 49ers! I put that laughing emoji in because this game should be over, but you're going to probably have to wait until the end of the third or something like that. Enjoy!

In my main league, I was up forty points going up against Deebo and Donald (it's IDP). Deebo just ripped out my soul.
