I'll just leave this here. He might have hated this, but might have appreciated once he read the lyrics.

Here's how the great escape goes
When you can't take your dead friend's name out your phone

Cycles To Gehenna

RIP wik and Tom (MoCS)

When you can't take your dead friend's name out your phone

Or stop texting them even though you know they're not there. I'm still texting with wikkid's sister through wikkid's cell. As of a week or so ago, I'd thought she might have turned off the service, because she hadn't responded in a while. Thinking no one would see it, I sent a pretty emotional text on a day I was missing him enormously. Then I heard from her again. Maybe I should email him instead.

I understand that quite a few people do this. I just talk to them when I'm by myself.

I now trail by 0.58 after that Adams TD.

Hoodoo Guru has CEH so this is coming down to the wire.

Sorry Pip. That Adams catch that they first ruled inbounds and then ruled out after review would have won you the game. That's FF in a nutshell.

By the way, when we trade players, do their songs go with them? Changes our playlists?

You mean guys you drafted? I don't think they're charging out to any song, so the songs don't go with them and your playlist won't change. You should, however, pick new songs for the players you acquire.

That's what I meant. We get to add a new song for that player - seems wrong somehow . . . I vote we can trade their song as well (for an extra fee of course!)

LOL. I'm confused. Consider the traded player a drop. You get to keep the song. We haven't done songs for drops here. If you're joking, I'm totally missing it. I know you're being lighthearted, I'm just even missing the internal logic of the lightheartedness.

Oh, I get it. The player's song travels with him. He's branded for the year by the song initially chosen for him. But there's just one thing -- nobody is really keeping track of that. I've already picked two songs for Kendrick Bourne, for instance, and I plan on picking more should I add him again. Really, it's just a fun exercise at this point (until Pip tells you that song has already been chosen in the exercise, of course). We loosely attach players to songs here. It's in the picking, not the retaining.

Really, you can sorta do what you want. I'm not policing the logistics of the add/drop (it took me a while to get around to all my transactions).

'90s grunge band that should have been more successful than they were.

Trade action feels like a new phenomenon in this league

Agree that there could be better trade related song shtick 🤔

A joint selection that pertains to both/all players?

Geno / Burrow on the block for a usable WR

Song: Autumn -- The Edgar Winter Group

He's part of Ringo's All-Starr Band, and until last night I hadn't realized how insanely talented he is. I had only a vague recollection of him from his hits in the 70s. JFC. That dude must be 150 years old and was the most impressive person on stage. What a showman, too!

I'm going to write a review of the show, but I keep vacillating whether to post it in this thread, the Beatles one, or the concerts thread.

Beatles thread. That's my vote. The solo Beatles thread and this thread, too. I think Eephus, Flop, Judge Smails, and I are the only ones besides metal dudes reading the concert thread.

I miss concerts. I haven't been to one since COVID hit. And Spoon, who are probably my favorite live band this side of Mogwai, were playing really small clubs in LA and San Diego to promote Lucifer on the Sofa, IIRC, and I really couldn't go because I can't get sick from even a mild form of COVID, really.

eta* I called it Lucifer on the Couch. Hwarf.

I would have been in the concert thread if I was in the FFA pre-pandemic, but I haven’t done any since then.

I liked your post, but then got sad reading it a second time. Age, responsibilities (health-wise to family), distance, and pandemic really crimp the desire to go to shows these days for me.

Age, finances and caution re the virus are the main reasons I haven’t gone to anything since 2019.

Mrs. Eephus just left to go see New Order and Pet Shop Boys. I don't like arena shows

I didn't realize the draw of those eighties acts until I was talking with my sister-in-law's brother about the Go-Go's the other month. He was telling me about shows -- I think -- on Catalina island that were big draws. Like almost festivals. I found it odd because I still am in denial about being old and the purchasing power that goes along with it for most people my age. They have disposable income and the tastes that would allow them to go to arena shows.

I hate arena shows, too. I'm with you. And it's not snobbery, I just don't like the experience. Even amphitheaters are too big sometimes.

Really can't underrate this element, I think. I'm feeling. Last festival I went to saw me in really bad shape by the end of the night. I wound up pretty much vomiting in a trash can with shorts around my ankles. I think I heard a young woman go "Ew." I'm definitely not in for any bill that's over a double bill anymore. I'll just show up for the bands I like and then leave. Or I'll show late. That other stuff is for the youngsters.

I don’t have a story like that, thank God, but I just don’t have the energy for the concert scene anymore.

I was going to say that I exaggerated a bit, but I'm remembering, and nope, not exaggerating a bit. Embarrassed, yes, Exaggerating, no. I think it was 2014. Spoon played that day. It was an awesome start to the festival. Brand New also played that day, and I was into them at the time. But it was one hundred degrees and Boston Calling was still by the old state buildings that were all brutalist brick and concrete, so it was even hotter than a hundred.

"Uncle," I said. I missed Nas and The Roots because I was so out of sorts that I had to retire to the air conditioned bars that were in the area. And never again did I go to a festival.

I'd go to Coachella if it wasn't so scenester-ish and if I knew any of the bands. I'd try that.

Dion - Lookin' For The Heart Of Saturday Night

From Dion's 1978 Return of the Wanderer where he unsuccessfully tried to latch onto the jetstream of Springsteen and Joel. A lot of Tom Waits covers are overly reverential but this one sure isn't. Dion's version takes the "cruisin' down the boulevard" lyric to heart with bopping backup singers and not one but two sax solos.

I have finally hit all the concerts that I missed/had rescheduled during covid. They really piled up.

My Chemical Romance, The Killers, Lizzo, Metric/Interpol/Spoon, Sam Roberts, Lumineers, Manchester Orchestra, PUP, Blue Rodeo, Glorious Sons. Plus Bonnaroo.

I totally respect anyone who isn't comfortable with concerts yet but for me not having them (or sporting events, pub nights etc .) really got to me and affected me in terms of mental health.

I'm generally not a person who gets down but not having those things to look forward to/releases really got to me for a while.

I had the same experience, except w/r/t travel. I'd always been 3-4 trips booked in advance, and I kinda love planning as much as going. Not being able to do that, or planning but not executing, really had a big effect. Just now busting out of that down feeling from it.

I booked flights today to go to New Mexico in November to see my son graduate from the police academy. It'll also be our first face-to-face meeting with his new wife. She seems like a lovely girl over zoom, phone and text and we're very excited to meet her. Even through the ether, it's evident how love has opened up a young man who's always been very reserved since he was a child.

We're splitting our time between Albuquerque and Santa Fe this trip. We have longtime friends in both cities so it'll be a nice change to see them on their home turf. A visit to my son's home in Alamogordo will have to wait for our next visit. If wikkid was around, I could ask him for the poop on Albuquerque.

It'll be Mrs. E's and my first trip together since July 2019.
