I'd be willing to be 18th in you need me and/or are willing to listen to nu metal or if you want to keep it to 16 and keep marco as a replace that's fine
I will let this thread naturally go for a couple days, see if I truly did miss the 18th person when trying to tally everyone. See if anyone else decides they truly don't actually want in, etc. However, we would love to include you. You can draft as much POD and Slipknot as you want. These music drafts embrance everything.

Yep. Eephus has drafted nothing but jazz at least one season.

not to worry, I would make you guys sit through a full nu metal playlist. You can breathe a sigh of relief now @krista4

Go ahead and count me out after all. I've realized that my travel schedule from mid-September to mid-November is going to be insane, and I don't feel like I'll be able to keep up enough to win. I like to win.
Going anywhere especially fun?

Mostly not. Five work trips - Vegas, Denver, Colorado Springs, Denver again, Nashville. For fun, OH and I are heading to Memphis for Gonerfest, and I'm taking my mom to Paris/London. Also, Louisville for my nephew's wedding, which qualifies as neither work nor fun.

You aren't kidding that is a lot of travel.

Yeah, it seemed even worse than I'd realized once I'd typed it out.

Wow. That's a full boat. That's only two months for seven trips and one overseas. Wow. You stressing yet?

I hope the trips with your Mom and OH are just excellent, Krista. I think it's great you're going with your mother to Paris and London. I hope you really enjoy both trips, but that sounds very special in some way. I hope it's just a chance to be together with you mom for one of those great trips where you'll both remember the places and talk about them fondly in the future. One of those trips, you know?

eta* full boat. Full boat, darn it. Not bull boat. Jeez. Unless you're going Hemingway style.

Thanks, my friend. Yes, I'm stressing a bit. It reminds me of when I was going back and forth with x number of cats over and over last summer.

My Mom and I are going to Paris because I have some upgrade certificates to use by January, and she decided she really wanted to go to Morocco. So I booked that, and then she had a health scare and we thought it might not be a great place to be if there were an emergency. So instead we changed to doing a Backroads hiking trip in Joshua Tree. Then she decided she'd really rather go back to Paris. Hopefully that is the last change. Since she's never been to London, I told her we'd take the Eurostar over and spend a day. I do think it will be a very nice trip.

Heh. Good luck. I hope it works out and that you both really have the trip of your lives. Or at least a mother-daughter time you'll both reflect upon and remember each other in that context forever. No pressure (LOL).

You basically have the same schedule as a musician who is on tour to promote their latest album.

My mom is the same age as Paul McCartney, so it fits!

Ok, I believe we have the following in for a 16 team league

  1. @Ilov80s
  2. @rockaction
  3. @kupcho1
  4. @Long Ball Larry
  5. @Don Quixote
  6. @Raging weasel
  7. @Dr. Octopus
  8. @Northern Voice
  9. @landrys hat
  10. @Pip's Invitation
  11. @Doug B
  12. @Mrs. Rannous
  13. @Eephus
  14. @simey
  15. @Truebluey
  16. @zamboni
So last call on anyone who needs to back out. If we are all confirmed good, let's plan to start on August 18th. We might have Eephus still on vacation so we'll start slow that day. Once I am confident this is our 16, I will randomize the draft order and post the final rules. Since we are at a larger number, I am thinking of tweaking the roster requirements and scoring quite a bit. Maybe I will put up a poll on what people prefer.

NEW FORMAT (?)
1 point per 10 yards receiving and rushing
1 point per reception
1 point per 50 yards passing
6 points for all TDs
-2 points for interceptions and fumbles

2 Superflex (QB/RB/WR/TE)
1 RB
2 WR
1 TE
1Flex (RB/WR/TE)
1 K
1 D

This allows some flexibility with the SF spot instead of QB so teams aren't getting stuck taking a 0 during bye weeks. But it also levels the playing field between QB, RB and WR so those teams who get lucky to land in a spot to take Lamar, Josh Allen, Burrow etc. aren't getting a crazy advantage over the people stuck in the Geno Smith, Matt Stafford, range. You could build your team to be starting 2 QBs each week but it would also be viable to build a team where you start 0 QBs. Allows for a lot of creativity in strategy and flexibility when injuries and byes come up given how deep the league is and thin the waiver wire will be.

Just to give a breakdown of how it would look based on last year's per game scoring with this format in 2024

Positional Rank QB ppgRB ppgWR ppgTE PPG
1 Lamar 25.7 Saquon 21.8 Chase 23.7 Kittle 15.8
2Burrow 21.8Gibbs 21.3Rice 21.6 Bowers 15.5
5Hurts 20.2 Kamara 19.0Jefferson 18.6Jonnu 13.1
10Nix 17.2 Kyren 17.0 Lamb 17.4Goddert 10.4
15Mariota 15.5James Conner 15.6 Brian Thomas 16.5 Kraft 9.5
20Tua 14.7 Aaron Jones 14.2JSN 14.8Likely 8.2
25Caleb 13.4 Najee 12.0 Addison 14.2 Conklin 7.5
30Dak 12.6 Rhamondre 11.5 DJ Moore 13.9 Okonkwo 7.0

So while QB still has the most scoring upside, it takes a special year like Lamar had to separate. QB, RB and WR descend in ppg pretty evenly. The WR scoring holds up a little better but also with 2 required WR spots, the position will get depleted more. Yahoo doesn't allow for position specific scoring so I can't do anything to help the TEs. It just is what it is with them.

Teams could go with a line up of 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 2WRs, 1 TE or 1 RB, 5WRs, 1 TE or 1 QB, 3 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, etc.

Do people find this odd format interesting? Hate it and just want a pretty normal format?

I’d say keep it simple, but I’m simple.

I think having a Superflex in a 16 team league is a mistake. That's all I'll say about it, but I think the end results will ultimately show us that. It will come down to who has the best and healthiest QBs - it's hard enough to have one good QB in a 16 team league.

I think Doc makes a good point about superflex in a 16 team league, particularly if all TDs are worth 6 points. The QBs will fly off the shelves and you may get in a big hole right away if you're at the back end of the draft.

Running QBs in particular with pass yards 1 pt per 50 yards and rush 1 pt per 10. Kind of curious what the Draft Dominator would say on VBD, but don’t have time to run to get a feel.

The huge knock on passing yards levels the 3 main positions pretty well. My worry was with 16 teams and a mandatory QB spot, once bye weeks come there could be several times where someone simply is not able to fill the QB spot on their roster. I get it sounds more complicated but I think in practice it's actually more simple because there is a lot of flexibility in who you can draft, start each week, etc. If you spent a early pick on Nix and he sucks, you might be screwed at QB all season long because every starting QB and then some will get drafted. But with the SF you at least can now plug a WR or RB in that spot.

Rushing QBs ofc are good, it's actually the QBs who score the most TDs who carry the day. QBs aren't dominating scoring though. Plus with a required RB and required WR spots, the supply and demand tilts in their favor. Here were the top 40 scorers from 2024 with this scoring format.

Lamar 436 QB
Chase 403 WR
Burrow 370 QB
Gibbs 362 RB
Baker 359 QB
Josh Allen 355 QB
Saquon 349 RB
Bijan 338 RB
Henry 336 RB
Jayden Daniels 328 QB
Jefferson 316 WR
Amon Ra 311 WR
Hurts 303 QB
Darnold 299 QB
Achane 299 RB
Goff 296 QB
Jacobs 293 RB
Nix 292 QB
Drake 280 WR
Kyren 272 RB
Brian Thomas 271 WR
Nabers 271 WR
Kyler 268 QB
McLaurin 267 WR
Cook 266 RB
Kamara 265 RB
Bowers 262 TE
Lamb 261 WR
Mahomes 255 QB
JSN 251 WR
Chase Brown 249 RB
James Conner 249 RB
Jon Taylor 244 RB
Bucky Irving 244 RB
Trey McBride 243 TE
Chuba 239 RB
Breece 236 RB
Kittle 236 TE
DJ Moore 236 WR
Sutton 235 WR

The breakdown is 11 QBs, 15 RBs, 11 WRs and 3 TEs. So taking a QB early makes sense but also there is no reason to be reaching to take a QB just because they are a QB. Brock Purdy for example is getting outscored last year by Chuba and JSN and Breece Hall. We could also drop it to just 1 SF spot and add another regular flex?

There is no QB spot on the roster. There are two Superflex slots, meaning you can start 2, 1 or 0 QBs.

Correcct, at least that was my proposal. I am very much open to adjusting that or just scrapping it.

Hey this has nothing to do with QB but I gotta be out. Something came up and I just don’t have time to do it. I’m sorry. I hope this doesn’t screw it up too badly. Peace.

@zamboni I'm getting a "something suddenly came up" vibe from rock's above post. 😉
Doug Simpson = late round flier

Oh Dear. Nobody asked me to any dance. I'm not with any cool kid. Heh.

Seriously, I was trying to cut back on FF this year. I've got a trip, an appointment, and a draft on April 18th. I also have a situation where I don't know if I can give enough time. I don't want anyone to drop out and I'd hoped for an addition rather than Doc dropping.

I can do this. I'm really indecisive and typed that when I woke up from a rougher night. It's not a big deal. I'll definitely do it if Doc is the only way to get numbers. Give me until tomorrow or so. I'm really sorry. Peace.

Hey Hamlet, are you in or out?

I’m in. Doc, don’t drop out.
