Sumo Wrestlers on OL? (1 Viewer)

I would think a far more promising method for changing special teams play would be finding a combination K/P whose combined performance was good enough to justify saving the roster slot. You'd think a team or two might try going this way, but it seems not.
Falcons tried it with Koenen last year. It never works. Good article about it right here.
Oregon State's Alexis Serna has spent the year handling all of the punting in addition to his regular kicking duties. He's last in the Pac-10 in yards-per-punt, though.
Wasn't he that guy who missed 3 PATs in a single game?Fake Edit: A quick google search reveals that he was. I knew that name sounded familiar.

Dwight Freeney would abuse a sumo wrestler so much, the guy would quit in the middle of the 1st quarter. The QB would get destroyed play after play. Regarding the "tall guys blocking FGs"... this might work, but not with them on the line of scrimmage. Instead, you make them stand right under the goal post. If the crossbar and a basketball rim each are 10', a 7-footer should be able to get his hands about 12' or more in the air from a standing leap. Many long FGs barely clear the crossbar, so my guess is these guys could block their fair share of kicks.

(Yes, it is perfectly legal.)

The last time this came up around here, someone said that this was a common strategy in the '70s, and it had since been made illegal. Are you certain that this is allowed?

The topic came up on Sirius NFL radio today, oddly enough.Tim Ryan, who basically swallowed a rule book, swears that it's legal. If that's not the case, blame him.

They experiemted with Sumo wrestlers as DEs before. Here's a picture of one sacking Doug Flutie.

He came back to win the Lou Groza Award the following year.

I remember that, too, I was just wondering why the name sounded familiar.
