OK, now that I've been able to sober up-ish and make it to work some thoughts on yesterday:
1. My breakfast's were great. Yes - I made two breakfasts. I felt like a hobbit. An early one for my neighbors who came over and then another one for my wife and son who were at his hockey game that started at 8:50. I was able to watch that on YouTube as one of the dad's live streams every game.
We had loads of bacon, hashbrowns, pancakes, and scrambled eggs. Cracked my first beer at about 9:30.
2. The Chiefs defense is legit at all three levels. And this is without Nick Bolton who is injured right now but should be back later this year hopefully. By far the best defense Mahomes has had. Thankfully.
3. Chris Jones is an idiot. Love the dude but he does that stupid crap every so often and the Chiefs luckily got away with it.
4. Andy Reid is an idiot. I don't have the time nor the inclination to go watch this game again in an all-22 format, but his scheming right now is total dog-crap. He is putting Mahomes in these 5 and 7 step deep drops and from what I can tell is running nobody underneath to give Mahomes a safety valve. You can't just run these deep patterns all day. That first drive where he mixed it up with a combo of short and intermediate routes was a thing of beauty. I know they script the first drive but these concepts should play the rest of the day.
Now, he may be doing this on purpose to try and keep this as vanilla as possible right now knowing what his schedule looks like the back half the year. But I feel the Chiefs have got to start mixing in some slants, more 3 step drops, running plays inside.......maybe even some no-huddle to mix things up.
5. Mecole Hardman.
6. The wide receiver core. We need more Rashee Rice. But man this group is rough. But I can't tell if it's the scheme or the talent. Probably a little of both right now.
