Carroll basically saying exactly what I just said in the post game interviews. He needed to get the plays, saw the pays bring in their goal line d, they brought out their the receiver set planning to run but decided to take advantage of the goal line look, and butler made a great play.

Anyone pathetically trying to justify the play calling has **** for brains.

I don't get anyone saying the game was sloppy or poorly played either, I thought both teams played a great game.
Brady and Wilson were pretty meh most of the game.

Just was not a great played game by either offense for most of it.
I was locked in so maybe you're right. I thought both teams did exactly what they were supposed to do and the game was decided by one yard. If I were a neutral fan, I would have really enjoyed that game.

Wilson was hot and cold. Brady was pretty damn good, though. He threw a terrible pick and another was ill advised, but over all he was outstanding. He rightfully won MVP. Overall, it was a very well played game by both teams. I'm not sure what there is to complain about other than you being a Sea fan and they lost.

Edit...there were some nice throws by both...but I don't think it was a very cleanly played offensive game by either QB.
Except for the two picks and the two pressures Brady played great.

37 of 50 (74%) for 328 yards, 4 TDs and 2 INTs.

It is fitting. People railing on Mccarthy for not putting the ball in the hands of the league mvp and it cost them a trip to the super bowl. Now Carroll will get railed on for not putting the ball in the hands of who might be the league's best rb.

Welcome to my world.

It sucks.

Part may be that I had been drinking and eating damn good ribs all day and playing poker with some buddies.

But all of us commented that it was sloppy and boring to us until late in the 4th quarter where it got exciting.

(and they thought similar of the NFC Championship game and don't like the Packers at all...couple Cowboys fans, a Titans fan and a Giants fan)

I thought Brady and Wilson played pretty good. Definitely much better than the QB play in the NFC championship game. They weren't lights out but both showed a tremendous amount of leadership near the end of the game.

Exactly how I saw it too.

Oof. Tough loss for Seahawk fans. Been glued to every play for well over 30 years now. Odd, I've felt much worse after watching them lose other games. I guess I'm getting much more reflective and not reactive in my old age. I missed the final few moments of the game. Heard there was some poor sportsmanship and bad attitudes. I'm sure I'll see it at some point. Haven't watched the press conferences yet. Will get to that tomorrow.

My random thoughts...

* Happy for Brady. Mad respect for that guy. Won't be surprised to see him keep winning more. He's not the sort to pout after a loss. He's not the sort to gloat after a win. He's focused on the next game. Love that about him. I said it in other threads. I'll say it here. I think Brady is one of the all time greats, and the result of this single game wasn't going to change my opinion either way. Winning and losing at these levels is such a crap shoot sometimes. If you're basing your opinions of Brady based on their win today, you're just fickle. Brady didn't make the final play. If Lynch scores and Seattle wins do you think less of him because his team lost? I wouldn't.

* Super happy that Wilson is the QB in Seattle. I believe he'll be the leader of a team that wins a lot in his career. Hard to ever count him out of a game. I think most fans will point at the coaches when they start placing blame for that last play. I rarely begrudge them any play call. Its the players on the field that #### up, and WIlson ####ed up, but I'm still super happy he's out QB here in Seattle.

* Offseason will be interesting for Seattle. Guessing they bring back everyone except for Maxwell (including Lynch). Losing Maxwell is going to hurt. Maybe Simon or Lane develops? We'll see. The salary cap isn't going to be the issue that some think it will be. If you doubt me, check out Davis Hsu via twitter. Dude is all over the cap numbers in Seattle.

* Wasn't surprised to see Seattle let Kam and Wright man up on Gronk. its what they do. Its how they play. If you can beat it, kudos to you.

* Was surprised to see Willson go the entire game without a target.

* Wasn't surprised to see Blount get shut down.

* Was surprised to see that many missed tackles in the Seattle secondary.

Final thought: If you were paying attention, you noticed that depth in the secondary in the modern NFL goes WAY past your starting corners. If you don't have at least four CBs that can cover other teams will find the weak spots. It doesn't matter if you have a Revis or a Sherman. Teams will find a way to move the ball by targeting your weakest links.

And off to the offseason.... Time to start watching all those YouTube videos of the incoming class of rookies.
This was a huge surprise to me as well. I really thought he'd have a large role in the Seahawk game plan, especially if they spied Wilson. Really odd they didn't features, but also seemed like he wasn't on the field much at all.

Maybe I'm biased, but aside from the last 30 seconds of the 2nd quarter and the entire 3rd quarter I thought the Pats were clearly the better team.

Slight better playing conditions, no?

Really happy to see seattle lose. And happy to see them lose on such a horrible play call. I hope it hurts all off season.

That game was a like a heavyweight prize fight. It looked like New England (challenger) was dominating in the first half, but somehow Seattle (champ) managed to tie it up before the half. Then Seattle took over in the third quarter (normally where the Patriots shine) and go up two scores, looking like they were rolling to victory. Then Brady leads two really, really good TD drives in the 4th quarter (where Seattle usually shines), and take a 4 point lead with 2:00 to go.

Jab. Jab. Right hook. Uppercut. Champ is dazed but comes back swinging.

A couple of nice pitch and catches, and then the miracle catch that seems to haunt the Patriots in every super bowl loss.

Jab. Jab. Left hook out of nowhere to stagger the challenger.

But then the Butler pick; the champ walks into a wild, lucky haymaker that crosses his eyes and it looks like it's over, but he's not down yet.

Because of a dumb celebration penalty, the Patriots are now on the 1 yard line and can't kneel down. Still a fighting chance. Then Seattle goes offsides, letting them off the hook. It is the equivalent of missing an uppercut and hitting your chin, knocking yourself out.

It was a great game to watch, two talented, evenly-matched teams that I think would be 5-5 if they played 10 times. Congrats to Seahawks fans, it was a great season and by all rights you could have been celebrating tonight. I have a feeling you'll be back soon.

No
So you didn't feel lucky to be tied at the half? I'm genuinely curious (and drunk / euphoric), because I was extremely disappointed at that point.

Sure but Seattle was dominate in the 3rd quarter and anytime this team is up ten that's usually a win. I thought the game was evenly played, and in the end the result said as much. One yard separated these teams, that's pretty cool if you are a neutral fan.

Agreed. I'll let the neutral fans decide where that game belongs in a historical context, but I imagine it's up there with the Rams/Titans game?ETA: I thought the Pats were equally dominant in the 4th...

I missed this because I was jumping up and down hugging a random guy - were the Patriots going to kneel and take a safety there at the end before Michael Bennett made his case for Super Bowl MVP?

No. Looked like Brady was gonna sneak or try to draw them offsides which is what happened. Whether he drew them over or they just went offsides I dont know.

are you people still trolling even after that game??

no -- they actually drew him offsides

that was the play

if it hadn't worked I assume they'd have tried to punch it through for a yard

Tip of cap to SEA fans. Quality ####### game. The tip catch smelled way too familiar. I love a game where it feels like it could juke either way at any second and I felt like we got that tonight, GG.

Pats fans: #4/6

I thought New England controlled the game. A couple miracle plays made the game as close as it was, and it was a great game to watch. Very entertaining for a Cowboys fan and glad to see Brady become the GOAT I always knew he was.

After the pick, the Patriots were flagged for excessive celebration. Instead of 1st and 10 at the 2, they were pushed back to 1st and 10 at the 1, so they didn't have space to kneel it even one time.
