Miami over Atlanta.
(For those of you new here, this has been my prediction for 4 years, and I am sticking with it until things come full circle and I am proven correct. However, I don't think this matchup is nearly as far-fetched for 2005 as some people do....)
Good posting for 2006.
ATL is highly possible this season... within a game of 2004 super bowl. addition by subtraction by jettisoning price, roddy white & jenkins could be big upgrade as season wears on. ed hartwell was one of top FA additions at any position... there is bizarre trend that they have not had two consecutive winning seasons since... EVER! but i a not superstitious. how could what happened several decades ago... different players, coaches, owner... have anything to do with this season. exactly nothing.MIA, OTOH... i'll eat a piano in one bite if they win this year (a bite-sized, candy piano). i respect saban, but how many super bowls would belichick have won since 2001 with a frerotte/"touchy" feeley tag team.
last week i took the super bowl odds of 32-1 for rams & 38-1 odds of broncos.
i did like the risk/reward tradeoff on those odds, but they aren't my favorites to win it all.
in NFC, eagles are class of nfc, but will super bowl loss hangover weigh on them?
CAR may be be a lot closer to 2003 team that beat PHI in championship game with guys like steve smith & kris jenkins back. they have a murderers row defense with former first rounders peppers, morgan, gamble & thomas davis... PLUS guys like jenkins, rucker, witherspoon, lucas & minter.
MIN & STL are teams with stellar offenses... vikes, on paper at least, should be vastly improved on defense. rams offense could be so good that defense only needs to improve to top 15.
in AFC, bruschi made so many huge, game changing plays that tipped the balance past few seasons, it will be hard to overstate the magnitude of his loss.
IND doesn't want to be like the eagles of the AFC, & has to get over the hump into the big show at some point. the window of opportunity for triplets iteration may be THIS season, as many think edge could be allowed to walk in '06... reggie wayne not be a lock to be back, either. defense was their achilles heel, but the addition of bob "hitman" sanders & good looking rookie marlin jackson could have pushed them across a threshold whewre they can be more competitive. they are like rams, vikings (& chiefs) in that they probably don't need to sport a top 10 defense to get to 11-5 to 13-3 range & have shot at home field advantage throughout playoffs... rams & colts especially could be EXTREMELY dangerous at home.
i think DEN is under-rated... plummer is in year three of skeletor system... the pandemonium over ma bell shake out made some lose sight that they have complemetary strengths... tough inside presence & if needed, bell has the long distance hook up covered.
wilson, gold & DJ very well could be top LB corp in NFL. DL will be better than people think.
KC is dark horse if additions on defense... especially kendrell bell, reigning college defensive POY derrick johnson, SS sammy knight & CB patrick surtain... mesh early.
i want STL - DEN with rams winner (gambler/homer in me)
i think it will be CAR - IND with panthers winning.
