Supernatural (1 Viewer)

I've been in a BSG blackout since All Along the Watchtower played, avoiding the first and second halves of season 4 altogether until it's done. (Did watch Razor.) I been hearing a lot of moaning coming in from the gallery, though. My expectations will be way low, which I hope helps.

They even worked a Simpsons reference into last night's episode, mentioning that the demon that ate kids' life forces had been in Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook. Those are cities Lyle Lanley had sold monorails to. (Batman't a scientist. I call the big one "Bitey".)

Well, this isn't a show with a whole lot of questions. Yes, there is a long story arc, but not a real discussable show like Lost or 24 or BSG where you are trying to think about who did what or what the mystery is.

Solid show though. Just watched last week's episode last night and another solid episode again and next week's looks good, maybe some comedy. Seems weird, but some of my favorite episodes are the spoofy ones not just the 100% serious ones.

This might be a reach, but Supernatural is the new X-Files.

Have you also noticed that there is a hot chick EVERY single episode?

Definitely in the same structure, i.e., episodic in terms of a "case" they have to solve with longer story arcs in the background. Sometimes the longer story arcs take over a whole episode like last week. I wouldn't say the stories themselves are similar, but the structure is. The structure is the same as almost any investigation show (CSI, etc.) with a set of characters solving the weekly case and sometimes a longer story (serial killer in CSI). Supernatural is in the sci-fi genre so the X-Files is the most appropriate comparison. And yes, the hot chicks are a bonus.

I didn't know the CW from a hole in the ground. Don't even know if I get it on my TV. I guess it's a Cjick TV channel, too. Odd, I guess.

Yeah, I like that the big arc isn't huge, and it's a series of mostly Monster Of The Week episodes halfway through Season Two.

The show had Kim Manners in common with the X-Files.

Bump for the season finale tonight.

Interested to see how they resolve Sam possibly going darkside. At its core this is a show about two brothers on the open road, can't really do that next season if Sam becomes a bad guy. My guess is that Sam going darkside is actually the final seal and Ruby has been playing him all along. Would be nice symmetry to the reveal that Dean broke the very first seal while in Hell when he agreed to torture souls.

well, Lucifer is going to need a body, Sam's seems ready...Dean will have to kill Sam
I figured that was where they were going with the season finale, Sam would be taken over by lucifer and the angels would try to force Dean to kill him. I don't think that is how they will do it next year based on the structure of the show. Seems more like it will be as someone else speculated in this thread: Angels vs Demons with Sam & Dean & Co./humans on the sidelines as a 3rd party fighting both.

well, Lucifer is going to need a body, Sam's seems ready...Dean will have to kill Sam
I thought that was where they were going with it, particularly when Lucifer told Azazel that he needed "a very special child." But with the reconciliation, I'm more inclined to Buckna's theory. It's interesting to me that a predominant theme has been that God has basically checked out, and the senior angels are running the show.

Completed Season Four, Fun ride. (The bipolar bear was maybe my favorite moment from the entire season.)

So long as they're not going to make a Constantine sequel, I think they should import that Lucifer into this show. Would be fun.

that bipolar bear rocked.Solid show I think. I'm curious if next season will be full-on apocalypse, or if the Lucifer angle will be dealt with by episode 2 to move into a new story line...

That was a fantastic episode. "Kneel before Todd!!"

Past season was my favorite so far. They managed to work in a lot of funny episodes like the teddy bear, the old monster movie shape shifter and my favorite was the one where Dean caught the ghost fever and was afraid of everything. Eye of the Tiger!

Season 5 starts Septmber 10th!

:goodposting: Looking forward to the new season. Personally, I love the funnier/off-beat episodes they do. I think that old monster movie shape shifter was my favorite. Loved the pizza guy coming to the door while everyone is tied up down in the dungeon.ETA: Another Ad to the FFA. If you like BSG, Lost, X-Files, etc., this is a show to check out. Plenty of DVD rental material and just a good show. I just hope they aren't planning to wrap it up anytime soon (not cancelled, but end of the story alah Lost). I think we have lost and are going to lose so many good Sci-fi related shows that it would suck to lose another.

Given how they've dealt with such issues in the past, I'd imagine the latter. By the beginning of Season Four, I figured Dean'd be out of hell in the first couple episodes. Just seems to be what they do. Buffy used to do some real humdinger buildups, only to have relatively anticlimactic endings. Similar thing going on here.I, too, mostly prefer the one-off monster of the week episodes.

Season 5 starts tonight. Too bad it's opening night of football, I will likely have to catch this on the CW website later this weekend.

Would it be really bad for a guy who posts on a football site a much as I do to miss an hour of the first game for this? Because I am pretty much leaning that way.

Ok so why couldn't the good show be on first? Stupid Vampire Diaries is no different than watching the Black Eyed Peas.

Awesome premiere. I like where this season is going. Looks like it is going to be darkest before the dawn. I wasn't sure about the whole angels thing, but I like how they executed it last season into this one.

Great Show. Love it. Been watching since close to the start.

Love that it doesn't take itself too seriously and does a good job of mixing it up.

:P They definitely took cues from the X-Files to do those themed shows and to be honest, some of their best shows are the spoof/off beat ones like the depressed Teddy Bear and the old monster movie episodes. Again, I loved the premiere because it definitely seems like we are taking another different journey. Not sure I expect to see any themed shows this season during the middle of the battle.

I can't believe the season finale is next Thursday. This season has been the best so far in my book. I heard everything will be resolved this season because next season was picked up so late.........Can't wait to watch Lucifer gets his bratty little bottom kicked. :fishing:

 Great season. I don't get the lack of love for the show. I am a big Lost/Fringe fan and Supernatural is right up there as a must watch. Has been a solid show from the start and I think they did the whole angel/God/Lucifer angle very well. I was a bit worried when they introduced that story line, but they did a great job and hopefully, it continues on for another few good seasons.

That's what it seemed like. I was confused as hell watching this show since it seemed like a series finale and I had read it got renewed for next year.

I agree with the spoiler. I definitely got that vibe from the ending as well. Wasn't sure what to think about Sam though.

Man, I love this show. That would have been one heck of a series finale if they hadn't have picked it up again. I'm excited for more, but not sure where they go from here. I agree with the suggestions about Chuck, and I got the feeling from the final scene that

I wonder what they will do for the new season? There was a joke in the episode before last where Sam said "remember when we just ran around hunting Wendingo's and stuff?" Be nice to see them return to their roots a little bit instead of the heavy mythology arcs almost all season.

Thanks. I knew that meant something, but forgot what made that happen. Makes sense. Will be interesting to see where they take it from here.

I agree with the spoiler.
But then again, what are the ramifications of Michael being locked in the pit??

BTW, if you guys didn't know, TNT runs two episodes a day at 10am and 11am. My Tivo will get me through the summer. :banned:

TNT has been playing two episodes every weekday morning starting with the first season. I think they are almost done with the second season now. I somehow picked it up on the first day just skimming the TV before work.

It started slow, but has turned into one of my favorite shows. Sam and Dean have great chemistry.

I guess I can consider myself lucky in that I have about 3 seasons of unwatched shows to go through.

Just saw a couple ads for the Season 5 DVDs and that the premiere is September 24th. Love the show and hope they keep going as they have been. They really have kept the shows solid from regular hunting all the way to Lucifer, angels and God. Been fun watching the TNT reruns as well. Some really good episodes.

One real interesting one when Lilith first showed up had her communicating with Lucifer and she asked why she shouldn't just kill them right now. Obviously he said not too, so even way back then you could tell they were setting the stage for Sam and Dean's meeting up with Lucifer. It was cool to see that when we first met her as that set the stage for all that followed.

Spoiler tagging to be safe.

I understand that Kripke was ousted as showrunner and that this season is supposed to be less arc-centric and focus more on Monster of the Week storylines. I'm only a casual watcher of the show, and I understand hardcore fans think these are positive moves, but it strikes me as directly at odds with what I generally like in genre television. Network execs always want less backstory and arc-heavy story telling so that casual audiences can watch any one show. But I prefer the ability to tell a 20 hour story. I thought the last two seasons of Superanatural, though flawed (Dean's whining wore on me) did that pretty well.

Hate that it is moving to Friday nights this year. I won't be seeing many episodes live.

Interesting. To be honest, I think based on the last couple seasons that I am looking forward to that change. Not because I didn't like the last couple years, but that it would be a good way to get into a new season after the end of last season, which was a pretty big end. They couldn't really continue that and the way it wrapped up seemed to end that arc, at least for the next couple millenia.

Well, hopefully this season starts getting better, because it looks and feels like a completely different show from all the other seasons. I think someone posted something earlier about a change in the show staff, maybe the writers, and it definitely shows. Even the ending of last season where the showed something happen that would lead us to believe Sam came back as an angel (the light flickering) was debunked this week.

I DVR it, so I will probably keep watching till the show ends, but man this season has been a disappointment. You can definitely tell they had no idea what to do after last season and that the people who gave the show its soul in past seasons aren't there.

If you have never watched it before, I highly recommend watching the show, but stop at the end of last season. Great season and probably should have been the last.

This season needs to pick up. Worst of the bunch.

:goodposting: Sucks because this was IMHO one of the best shows on TV. Very underrated and well done. I remember someone in here posted that the people doing the show changed before this season and it shows. It feels like a completely different show and unfortunately, it isn't a good thing so far.

I imagine this will be the last season. I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did.
