Survivor I: 12 message boarders battle for $1,000 (1 Viewer)

spOOfy

Footballguy
Rules, rosters, etc. - some great commentary here folks, free to everyone.

A few months ago, Footballguys poured over hundreds of contest submissions, finally narrowing it down to 36. Another round of cutdowns gave us 12 finalists. These 12 players, all from the message board, will be battling it out for $1000, a lifetime subscription, a 3-page article in FBG magazine next year, automatic entry into the contest next year, and props on the board! 1st place gets it all!

Now that the league is posted for all the see, I figured I'd move the discussion here from the FFA, where it belongs. You can read the multi-page thread from the FFA for more background. In addition, there is a great discussion about the other Survivor leagues which pit message boarders vs. staff.

---------------------------------------------------

The draft happened in July, and everyone we draft, we are stuck with. There are no trades. No pickups. And we use best ball format. Check out the rules for all the details.

Here are the 12 rosters...

Boy, Spoof, lots of interest in this board.

My grandma always told me you get more with sugar than you do with salt. PM me if you don't know what I'm speaking about. When you guys polled the audience, I believe BnB was an overwhelming favorite to win. At this point, I think the audience was incorrect and now we're going to have to use the "phone a friend" to get the answer.

BnB hurt himself by selecting Tatum Bell early in the 3rd. He also used a 10th round selection on Peerless Price which looks like a wasted pick and another wasted pick on retired TE Freddie Jones.

Not in any order but in a Tier 1, I like these teams:

Nuggett, GrandGouda, Worm, and Marvin88

I was actually going to post a honorable mention with 3 teams and both of them would have been on that. They certainly have chances to win, it's just that they have certain players that I'm not as high on as other people are. That certainly doesn't make their squads any lesser. But if someone said I get a million dollars to pick the winner of this thing and you get 4 picks I would select the group I posted. In survivor format I don't like not cuffing Priest to LJ. LJ at 6.9 in this draft was a steal IMO.

Looks like BnB loses another - broken fibula for Garcia. Man, preseason sucks!

Anyone keeping track of stats for everyone, only watching their own team, or are we all just waiting for FBG to post results on, oh, say Wednesday?

I didn't check after last nights game and did not do a real thorough check, but I had the top three as follows:Nugget

Thanks. I'm hoping the site might actually give us that info soon!

Thanks Marvin! Off to a good start, but there's a lot of goose eggs for my players. I'm gonna need Droughns to keep putting up some points or a quick return of Bettis. Was surprised at how many receiver zeros there too.I'll keep hoping Vick and Indy D puts up points like that each week...

Oddly enough - for me this week - the apparent strength of my team was my weakness (WR's) and the apparent weakness on my team (RB's) was my strength!

I am not real confident about my team's performance this week. Can't get a good matchup for Deuce yet. Jax always plays my Colts tough.

Looks like I was correct about the JAX DEF, but wrong about my team's performance.

Why? How's it looking this week?

They aren't updating RTS as far as I know. They are putting the scores right on FBG on Tuesday afternoons.I just scored my own team by hand and it looks like I have 144.1 right now. I can get a bit more if the Saints D scores more than 11 points, but I'm not holding my breath.

Either way, assuming points stay about the same, that puts me in the middle of the pack this week. Looks like after 2 weeks I could be 17 and 5. Not too bad, but my team is hurting at the big 3 positions. GB LJ Smith this week.

I'll put out a rough standings this morning = I got three more teams to look at.
OK, here is what I have for this week. It is not 100% accurate. By the way, RTS DOES have stats and that is what I am going by. You have to go into the individual teams to see your stats. But they only tally to the WHOLE number so decimals are not included in these totals. Which means places can easily change since the scores are so close. I may go back and do the top three to see who got first this week. They also do not have DEF scoring in most cases and I had to calculate those (A PAIN IN THE NECK). I may not do this any more and may just keep track of my own totals. Someone else want to do it next week? Here is what I have:Roarin Sonoran 161 (I had to keep recalculating his score since I saw no way he could have this many points, but I think it's correct Heiden (who?) 28 points and Bears 29 points.

Marvin88 159 (You know you had a good week when you do not need Carson Palmer's stats - GO DILFER).

Raidergil 159 (who by the way should thank the football gods because he was middle of the pack until last night - big night from Horn and 2 LATE LATE LATE TD's to S. Moss).

Wheelhouse 153

Grand Gouda 143

Nipsey 141

SpOOfy 139 (Thank goodness for LJ)

MikeyT 132

Nugget 129 (Would have been last if not for Glenn last night).

Worm 128

TFox 127

BassNBrew 111 (still no TE's)

Again, you see how close these totals are without decimals and that is not even accounting for MY errors in calculations if there were any. So it would not be unreasonable for, say, SpOOfy to go from 7th to 5th (not that I want that to happen). Or me to first ;) - Now that's more like it!

Thanks Marvin. I got real lucky last night, I mean, my quality drafting paid off last night. However, still not a good week as Priest is definitely not looking 'Priestly' and I may have lost both Martin & Burleson.

here's my official (unofficial) totals for top threeRoarin' 171.7

Raidergil 169.1

Marvin88 166.6

That little a margin means a whole lot as far as wins and losses go. Oh well, I will console myself with the fact that I have gotten nothing yet from my Colts WR's and their schedule is "wide open" now!!!

Who was eliminated? Where are the other 6 teams? How is this a Survivor league again?

Great question. This is best ball where you basically play all the teams each week. I have no idea why it is being called a "Survivor" league. You'll have to talk to the head hunchos at FBG about that one.

Anybody got a tough BYE week?PS - I feel sorry for BassNBrew - two TE's to start: one retires and now the other is talking about season ending surgery.

OK, got it. Thanks

Anyone have a rules/scoring link, or was that only in the email?

ETA: Meh, I found it in my email. Made a webpage to show week-by-week.

No tough bye week, just a tough year. To bad this isn't a Survivor format so I could have left early for a shower and a beer.

This is more of a Draft-N-Go format where you don't have to submit lineups each week and can't make any transactions for the year. I just think they used Survivor format because the terms more popular and people understand that it's basically a drafting of a team and let the cards fall where they may.

Well Marvin, if you feel bad enough if you win the 1K I'm sure he'd accept a piece of the pie.
Don't feel that bad - not even for a fellow NC boy! ;) Actually that was a bizarro world "bad" which really means "good".
