Survivor Season 48 - David is 1 Angry Dude (1 Viewer)

Sorry, I don’t agree with a lot. I was rooting for Joe and Eva but they were so stupid. Oh no, David is paranoid so let’s vote him off. It’s truly amazing how dumb they were. Not once did Joe talk to Shauhin which could have easily shown that Kyle was feeding him crap. Star votes for Mitch but doesn’t tell them that Shauhin doesn’t have an idol?

I know they painted David like a poor loser but lol that he was 100% right the whole time and just got labeled paranoid. Poor Joe got his integrity challenge yet he voted for David. Eva thinks David is being paranoid and she can’t handle that but she can’t get it that right then Kyle says let’s vote David and Shauhin agrees in 1 second. How do Joe and Eva miss it all? Eva kept saying David was turning on their group but Kamilla wasn’t in their group. The only people that were turning on their group of 5 were Kyle and Shauhin.

Also, swaying Kyle and Kamilla? Those two aren’t part of the power folks. Kamilla isn’t an ally of Joe and Eva in any way. She doesn’t have to be swayed in any way.

Joe and Eva are now the number one targets and they let it happen to themselves and missed so much.

One more thought, Kamilla clearly has been anti-David at the last two tribals coinciding with David suggesting Kamilla. How can Shauhin, Joe and Eva miss that Kyle has to have been clueing here in on that? Kamilla didn’t get a single vote but she’s acting like she’s a target and nothing registers.

As a Joe/Eva fan and as a glad the strong people were running things, this episode sucked because Joe/Eva have no chance without winning every immunity and playing the two advantages at the exact right time. I’m pissed they made themselves the number 1 target. Heck, how does Kyle think Kamilla will bring him. His story of carrying her through is way better than hers. She can’t beat him.
David was ultra aggressive too. I really wish Kyle would have turned it around on David, and asked him if he thinks they should also be voting Mary off for the exact same reason he wanted Kamilla gone?

Both Kamilla and Mary were voting with the 'power 5', but David only wanted Kamilla gone. Seems hypocritical.

Now saying this, I do think that Eva and Joe should have waited one more round before pulling the trigger. They will now have to use there immunity/Safety to stay in the game.

Star is a quote machine. I changed the title 3 times before landing on that one. She's not a great player, but I did enjoy her. Uncle JP snuffed that torch. She is a truly awful freestyler :) I like Kamilla but man it was like she snorted cocaine before answering at tribal. Her answers were super fast. David is a bitter, angry man. I felt like security should be present to prevent him from charging. I also don't see him giving anyone a warm welcome at Ponderosa. I think solid all around plays again from tribe. Kyle seems committed to the Core 4 and showed that he can beat them.

  • Rooting to win - Joe remains my favorite.
  • Pulling for - Eva, Kyle, Mitch, Kamilla, Shauhin, and Mary. Moved Kyle up a few slots based on performance and loyalty.

Definitely should have gone Mary.
I liked the split vote with the majority being on Star. Star had a 1 in 6 chance to stay if she played her shot in the dark. If she won it, they knew Mary would be gone because her shot was gone. For next week, they don’t have to worry about a shot saving someone.

I do agree Mary is the stronger player and is more likely to win a challenge. I don’t think she is really social enough to flip others effectively though. Her “I’ll be a vote” could work.

Yeah this is why I liked the Starr vote.

If Joe makes it to FTC and loses, his talk with Mary is the kind of thing that will be the cause. That was atrocious jury management.

Kyle is getting the traditional winners edit. But you know who else did? Charlie.

There’s a whole lot about Star that the edit hid from us. Some people said she was annoying and they were ready for her to leave, but we were shown very little of the kind of behavior that would produce that reaction. The depth of Mitch’s aversion to working with her doesn’t really make sense given what we were shown, either.

Also, Mitch, you’re not part of the core majority alliance but you won’t make a move against them because you don’t trust the people outside that alliance? Have you never heard of “voting blocs” or “trust clusters”?

Ep 10
Counselor Mary is reeling from losing David, back on the bottom.
Strong 4 now (PHD Eva, Firefighter Joe, Attorney Kyle, and Professor Shauhin) vs 4 Revolution (Sales Star, Mary, Software Kamilla, and PE Teacher Mitch). Star is coming alive again - says confidently that they can vote together for 4 votes - possibly Joe if he doesn't win immunity. The Strong 4 will not go to rocks - playing scared.

Day 18 = 8 days left
Shauhin knows the free agents have the power, but are they smart enough to use it?
Joe feels the Strong 4 are pulling in Mitch and Kamilla to get back to 6. First time we've seen that combo. Targets Star and Mary.
Mitch disregards Star as a serious player/threat. Joe says Star is his kryptonite - doesn't seem to stand her much.

Chuckle moment on the bats yawning whilst Mitch snores in a midday nap.

Mary reveals the 4 votes on Joe plan to Kyle. Willing to go to rocks. Is he ready to flip yet? Tells Joe that Kamilla is locked in on the 6.

Challenge - Feet tied together + arms tied to their sides. Use mouth to drag roped buoys while they slither through the sand. Rope maze. Ring toss. Shauhin doing the worm to get the early lead. Kyle took lead, then lost it on the rope maze. He comes back to win the ring toss. Reward = Fried Chicken and Waffles meal.

Reward - Kyle takes Eva first (Joe says 'wow') - setting up for the Joe blindside and pull her in after? Kamilla not so obviously. Shauhin as well. His trio + Eva. Hmm.

Twist: 3 people can sit out and they share a bag of rice. Denied
Challenge - Pull 25ft rope and balance table to stack letter blocks. Spell and hold Immunity wins the same. Star was terrible at this. The males all get close and fails. Great slo-mo of bees buzzing Joe as he wins immunity for the 3rd time. Blindside is off - booooo.

Mitch tells Star to use her Shot In The Dark. No blindside, so he's crumbling on a big move.
Mary to Kamilla, tries to switch the rocks play to Kyle - oopsies. Talks it over with Joe and Mitch. Seems like it's back to an easy vote for Mary.
Mary and Star let each other know they are voting each other. Revolution over.

But not before Star busts out a full rap.

Star (sucks at challenges) vs Mary (no SITD)
Tribal: Star cracks everyone up when she said Mitch told her to use her SITD - and he didn't stutter! Oh, Mary doesn't have time for paranoia - that got people 'not on the bottom' kicked out - nice jury management there. Chaotic Star (5) over 'no safety net SITD' Mary (3) = gets to rap over in jury.
Bummer - she was fun.

Idols (good until): Eva - all know (5 remain) + Safety Without Power (7 remain)

7 remain and Safety Without Power has to be played/lost so Eva is safe.

Yeah, I don't get why Mitch was against the plan to force it 4-4. I know we know better as viewers, but still.
Mitch seems to be more interested in hanging out on the beach and having fun than winning. Every tribal, the majority 4-person alliance has clearly announced that they're sticking together until everyone else is gone and not shown any interest in working with him to make any sort of move. This was the last chance to target one of them before they had an unbeatable majority and Star was the target. Who cares if you trust Star or not? What is she going to do - vote for herself to screw you over?

He'll get a few more days of fun on the beach and a nice view of the winners from the jury box.

This show has the potential to get pretty boring for the next few episodes. It seems like this was the last chance to shake things up.

Next episode is Safety Without Power - use it or lose it.
Also means no vote if used. So theoretically still a possible 3 vs 3.

Would be classic if Joe got booted while Eva is chilling back at camp. The tears would flow.

Catching up. Let the episodes build up and binged this week. The first few episodes were lame as usual, but, this whole season seemed to shift into a new gear in the episode with the tribe shake-up where Kamilla and Kyle forged their invisible alliance and both played it perfectly. Next episode that great Joe/Eva moment. All the annoying awful players got voted out and Casting actually did a good job this season with the rest of the castaways, mixing good personalities that interact well with each other and create interesting dynamics. Some great moments, all that build up to David getting beat. I like how they're making intentional moves and explaining them. Kyle with how he stacked the reward with people Kamilla could sway to give her a chance. It's better game play than we've seen in some of the lamer seasons, and it's coming from genuinely likable people that are interesting to watch and make good television.

They really missed an opportunity to shake things up a bit. Been a solid season for me. This episode was the first one where my mind started to wander. Feels like the next handful are gonna be predictable. Predictable on Survivor is a bad thing.

Old school seasons with an alliance that steamrolled got very interesting at the end when the alliance had to turn on each other.

But forced firemaking could blunt that. You can have an alliance of 4 that never has to turn on each other. It’s what the Rebas in 45 wanted to do until Drew realized there was no way he could beat Julie.

In this episode, Joe laid out what could happen. They cut Mary at 7, Mitch at 6 and Kamilla at 5. Then the Strong 4 is the final 4 and the winner is decided by firemaking and the jury, and they never have to betray each other.

That probably would not make for the most interesting television.

Would be classic if Joe got booted while Eva is chilling back at camp. The tears would flow.
The smart play for Eva might be to give the SWP to Mitch. Then the majority still has 4 votes and Mitch, who has been playing cowardly, knows he is staying another round.

Is that one transferable?

Don’t know.

Whew, the only thing people will talk about from this episode is David staring a hole through the entire remaining players. It wasn't out of respect for Mary, I saw in an interview where he basically described her as a puppy dog that attached herself to him, so he told her he could stay until the 6th vote out. What a prince. His girlfriend probably dodged a bullet. That was super awkward.

Joe showed a real (weak spot)* in his armor with his reaction to Mary just telling him (I'm voting for you). Shahin seemed super offended saying "Welcome to the game!". That wasn't a good look for Joe and I halfway expected that he might actually get voted out. Mary may have hurt her own game (she was in the dark about the potential Joe vote, so can't blame her for trying). With him on such high alert, I think Kamilla abandoned the plan because she was sure Joe would go to Eva and ask her to play the idol. I again was surprised when it wasn't played. But alas, the Power 4 stayed true and Mary went home.

Next week I think is a real opportunity for Kyle/Kamilla. That they have been able to be secret #1s the whole game is super impressive. I think Joe burnt a little bridge with Shahin, so they would only need to bring Mitch over, which seems like a given. If Joe wins immunity, Eva plays her idol though and they remain in the game.

This tight Power 4 hasn't made for the most exciting season, but I really do appreciate how they are all playing.

  • Rooting to win - Joe remains my favorite.
  • Pulling for - Eva, Kyle, Kamilla, Mitch, and Shauhin. Swapped Kamilla and Mitch because I love that duo, and Mitch has really not done a lot but survive.
*Oops, the language filter inadvertently caught me :)

Anybody notice Eva knocked over her 4 high stack of tablets before the sand timer fully ran out? I thought the rules said whatever is remaining standing when timer runs out is final result? Was hoping at tribal she got up there and it said she lost her vote and she freaked out.
I did, and thought the same thing. She must have checked with production before knocking it over.

I like all these people left but good grief play the damn game. I have no idea what Kyle, Kamila and Shaulin are waiting for. And Kamila love the fact she won immunity and I questioned her taking Eva on the reward but her explaining she took her to make her comfortable I'm thinking great they are going to start playing the game then a big nothing burger at tribal. I miss the days when players actually tried to force idols to be played. I'm starting to sour on Eva her bitching about Mary eating coconuts when Eva's been eating more than anyone else was a bit much.

They are worried about jury votes. But yes, I agree with you....perfect time to get Joe out. And why Mary decided to rile him up with that comment and make him feel uneasy was stupid.

I too was surprised no one made a move, although I am rooting for Joe, but I agree it is rooted in jury management. Kyle would have to be the one to flip, which would put him in a great spot for the final 3, but if he orchestrates sending Joe/Eva/Shaheen home, I can't see more than maybe one of them voting to give him the million - not after the talk all season long of staying 4 strong. A lot of seasons the jury seems to like and respect blindsides, but I just get the feeling that will not be the case this season based on the editing to date.

I agree to some extent but Joe can easily argue that he was pulling all the strings and took the others along with him. I don't see anyone beating Joe so getting him out should be priority 1. Kyle's an attorney and Shauhin a debate coach so they should be able to come up with a valid argument for blindsiding Joe. Feel like it's too late now with the advantages that Eva has. They are all playing scared.

At the end of the day, I think Kyle/Camilla thought they couldn't trust what Mary would do in the next round. I think they feel much more comfortable on their ability to steer Mitch/Shauhin.

I like Kyle's path to win the whole thing, and I think he'd be able to verbalize his case well to the jury.

Joe/Eva haven't really made any moves so their case is all loyalty integrity blah blah blah.

Edit to add: Pipes and I were typing at the same time and made some interesting counters :hifive:

exactly. it was hard to see for certain, but it sure looked like there was sand left in the timer when she knocked that over.

Not sure I agree on the bolded. He and Eva have been a duo the entire time. I don't think he was pulling the strings, I think they were.

While they are an inseparable duo, I think it is clear to everyone that Joe is in charge. Eva's exchange with people once she got back from the challenge highlights her lack of strategy or how the comments would land on people. She had no ill intent, but even Joe was shocked by her comments but he said "It's the truth! Good for her!" but he knows that wasn't the right way to deliver it game strategy wise.

This has been by far the worst new era season and it is really approaching Redemption Island, One World, Ghost Island level of boring-ness, without having the charisma of a Boston Rob, Kim or Domenick to help it. It really felt like they could have packaged Star/Mary leaving into a single episode like they did back in the earlier seasons.

Felt like the show was shifting a little too much into the political culture of our world. I'm thankful this season has really stayed away from that. Having said that, it's been a super vanilla season. No play action. No tush push. Just really vanilla with decent character people. Surprised Kyle or Shahin didn't flip there. It only took one. Wtf was that about with David. Super weird. Mary played from the bottom since the beginning of the season. Hold your head high girl. I'm out on Eva. Not feeling her anymore.

Ep 11
Strong 4 = PHD Eva, Firefighter Joe, Attorney Kyle, and Professor Shauhin vs 3 indies = Counselor Mary, Software Kamilla, and PE Teacher Mitch

Mary (no Shot In The Dark) is hanging on by the thinnest of threads. Tries to convince everyone that she's the added vote if they want to get out Joe/Eva while they still can. Funny moment as she takes out aggression on a coconut with the machete. Apparently she's eating most of the coconuts out of spite.

Day 20 = 6 days left

Journey - Eva wins rocks to go. Already has the Safety Without Power that has to be played this tribal or lose it. And has an Idol. Yeah, she really needs another advantage. At risk is her vote and the Advantage is Knowledge is Power (she can steal an idol - good that someone else didn't get it). I'd get the levels needed to save the vote and not risk it for advantage. Break even. She eventually decides the same.

Challenge - Push 1-wheeled wheel barrel over a seesaw and zigzag balance beam as it holds a vase with a key in it. No stepping off either. Pick up another vase and go over speedbumps in the sand. Use keys to unlock puzzle pieces that spell a word as an arch. Reward sushi/teriyaki meal. Wow Joe loses a nail biter as he put a cube with the wrong color facing outward. Kamilla a moment behind has it all correct to win immunity.

Reward - Mitch + Eva taken. Mary upset as she called it earlier saying 'they will have reward and I haven't eaten in 8 days.' Kamilla tries to keep Eva worry free as there is a possible Joe blindside in play. Mary is the easy vote per Eva. Eva confirms that she is waiting until the last tribals before using the idol. If she/Joe win immunity, the idol gets played on the other. Kamilla and Mitch show nerves and know they have little time to strike.

Kyle reveals he's a lawyer to Kamilla. She don't care. #1 test passed.

Mary goes villian to try and save herself. Says she will be voting for Joe with everyone around. Supposedly not nervous, Joe now wants to split the vote to avoid his name. Does NOT like knowing he's a vote.

Easy vote Mary or drummed up alternate theory Joe?
Tribal: Yawn... all going as expected. Lose it = Eva doesn't use the Safety Without Power. Mary has no SITD. Mary (5) Joe (1) - Counselor Mary is going to need a therapy session in jury.
David stands up in respect for his #1 getting the fire snuffed out.

Idols: Eva (hidden, but all know, good until final 5)

The votes are so easy and ho hum, but they do put some effort in making an alternate theory this season. But a yawner for stretches for sure.

6 remain

I have to think Kyle has realized -- correctly, I believe -- he can beat anyone at FTC, so there is no need for him to rock the boat. This jury is less likely to be bitter at him than at Joe and Eva, and more likely to respect his game than Kamilla's. It's harder to get a sense of how they feel about Mitch and Shauhin.

The edit wants us to believe that Kyle is winning -- but it also wanted us to believe that Charlie was winning, so that doesn't mean Kyle is winning for sure.

I still have no idea what Shauhin really wants as far as the endgame goes, and that is the biggest and most intriguing variable to me at this point. We are being told he is a savvy and possibly sneaky player, but in regards to the Strong 4, he hasn't displayed any of that at all, and we have not seen what non-Strong 4 plans he has, if any.

It's really hard to see who is going to win other than Kyle.

Joe has had horrible jury management and may well have David and Mary campaigning against him in Ponderosa.

No one takes Eva seriously as a threat. They would be trying to flush her advantages if they did.

Kamilla is explicitly against the loyalty-style game (though no one knows she is secretly loyal to Kyle) and is the opposite of a "Strong 4/5" type of player, so some of the jury might not respect her game.

Mitch is liked but has been shown to be delusional about exactly where he stands in the pecking order, and has done nothing to try and change that pecking order.

Shauhin claims to be a savvy player, and some castmates have said he is sneaky, but all he has done is ride along with Joe and Eva.

So if Kyle is not our winner, then some new info is going to have to come to light soon. Unless this season's edit is as bad as 41's, and I'd rather not think about that.

So what was the deal with David standing up? Just a “look at me moment”? Really didn’t understand what he was trying to accomplish but maybe I’m not paying close enough attention 🤷‍♂️

I mentioned in my input up a few that (I think) it was a sign of respect for his #1 Mary.

As for the jury - they are told by the producers to always look grumpy, stern, or stoic.

It’s possible, but I read an interview with him where he didn’t speak highly of Mary. Said she was like a puppy dog who attached herself to him. I think he’s just a weird, bitter, angry dude.

He's lobbying hard for a villain role in reality TV somewhere
He has already integrated himself in the Survivor alumni scene. He is dating Sarah Wilson, who was the second boot of 41.

Sarah previously dated Jonathan Young, the huge muscled dude from 42. I think she has a type.

If Kyle plays it right, David's vote is his at final tribal. Play into his ego with "I had to get you out when you were coming after my secret #1 Camilla - can't believe you were the only one smart enough to pick up on that"

There are people who have won because they knew who on the jury had an ego that needed massaging. (Charlie lost 46 in part because he failed to pick up on that.) David will absolutely vote for whoever strokes his ego the best during FTC.
