Waivers just processed this morning. 12 team dynasty 2014 startup

Start season with $100 FAAB. I went very heavy WR in dynasty startup and was left with Hyde, SJax and Rice as my main backs. Needless to say I was fairly certain after the knockout vid leak and the explosion of 3 ATL RBs not named SJax that I would be blowing all my bucks on backs this week and hoping I drafted well enough to stay afloat.

I won Crowell with a $75 bid. The only other bid was for $4 (wtf.) and it was by the guy who dropped him for a defense a few days ago. Oh well, better safe than sorry. He passed the eye test with flying colors. Now can he pick up pass pro and take the reins?

I also won Forsett with a $25 bid and got Taliaferro for free. All in all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but I have to stay a step ahead of waivers now and 15 weeks is a long time.
You seem to have misplaced your "wtf."

Agreed. I could see bidding up to $15 a piece for them, maybe less..... If you won both, you still have plenty of $$$ left. If you win only one or none? Big deal and pick up the week 2 darling, or week 3, or etc......

With Tate out I needed to grab Crowell, even if it's only for a couple weeks. My RB depth beyond Charles and Tate was fairly weak, because, hey, I had Ray Rice coming back for week 3!

I think Crowell is pretty talented but with a lot of early buzz favoring West, and his strong performance in the first game, I do see West still getting the majority of the carries until Tate returns.

With the Ben Tate news I think Crowell is actually looking like the better pickup short term as well as long.
I like Crowell, but do we know this for sure? West got the bulk of carries. I'm hoping now that Crowell is in the game plan now they will at least split 50/50 carries to start...
If I knew any of this stuff "for sure" I wouldn't be typing this message! I'd probably be somewhere on my huge yacht getting pampered by 5 playboy models, a personal chef, a butler, and a masseuse (the good kind) with all the money I win from fanduel. Lol
Sounds awesome!

So, you blew every FAAB dollar on Crowell and forsett?

wtf are you going to do for the rest of your season?
It's all your fault. You're the one that started a thread calling two third string RBs "The 2 most important waiver wire players..."

:o

So what do you think, LawFitz? who is the better pickup this week?
Depends on your situation. If you want a guy more in line to become the primary option on his team, go with Taliaferro (or West, if available). If you want upside, it's Crowell. Dude burst off the screen on several of his runs this past weekend. I scooped Crowell as the last RB on my bench, but if I needed a starter, I'd grab one of the others.

Crap...my bad!

The one thing I can't get away from with Crowell, and I own him, is that who in their right mind is going to put him in a position where they have to count on him yet? IF West is totally ineffective and Tate is hurt then out of desperation they might go to him. I think he would have to severely out play West by a bazillion miles right now to be given a lead role. Otherwise I don't think anyone is going to trust him until he proves differently.
Take this a step further - Do you really see putting either Crowell or Taliaferro in your lineup? .... ONLY if they win the starting job and while Crowell has more talent he has both West and Tate in front of him and both are productive When they play and more talented than Forsett or Pierce .... BUT Pierce has looked terrible and already ceded time to Forsett who has never kept the job when handed to him so I think Taliaferro has more of a chance of being a player you would actually activate into your lineup .... meanwhile Crowell will get more points but are there weeks when you would really start him?

Clevelend RB's the most important pickups of the year. OK.

"Cleveland WR the most important pickup of the year. OK."

-2013 preseason

Ear to the ground. Hand on the wire, my friend.
Actually the thread title was "the 2 most important waiver wire pickups for week 2". But it got cut off at the end, lol.

Nonetheless, I disagree that a Cleveland RB can't become the best pickup of the year. They showed in week 1 that they are plenty capable of running the ball very well. Sleep on them if you like, but I play fantasy football more like LawFitz. I'll always look at every situation as objectively as possible.

The waiver pool in my league consists of such studs as Theo Riddick and Jorvorskie Lane. I'll take my chances with the 20 guys on my roster and if I lose the next few games as convincingly as I did week 1 I will sell my vets and play for next year. I'm pretty solid at WR and in my years playing FF there are very few times that I've picked anything resembling a decent long term RB option off the scrap heap. I think Crowell could be great, and I'd rather overpay for him now than spread my dollars out on several Ogletrees and Brandon Jacksons.

Man, the eye test tells me Crowell is a special back with the negative being one more person in front of him. I am a Tate owner and I am putting in a bid for West with Crowell as my 2nd choice (6 choice on waivers). Good chance neither falls to me.

I still see Baltimore possibly bringing in someone else. I don't care for any of the current options and the whole situation screams at me as a three headed mess. Cleveland is going to run a lot and frankly they should because they do it well and Crowell is going to have some value all year.

West has been a favorite of mine since the draft and I really think he's a solid enough runner to hold down an NFL starting job. Very smart player. I like Crowell better as a short-term add, but Taliaferro intrigues me more for those looking past the next couple of weeks or in dynasty formats. Forsett and Pierce are OK as fill-ins, but I have a feeling the Ravens staff will want to give Taliaferro a good look at some point and he might just end up being a nice RB3 in 12 team PPR leagues.

And Crowell but West is the starter

Why wouldn't you draft Crowell in a dynasty. God knows who else is available there.

Swung for the fences and got both in the FBGPC ... 2/3 of my seasons blind bid, one better break-out. I like Crowell to have a steady role, regardless of the health of the rest of the team. I think he's got a higher floor and probably a higher ceiling too. But I think Taliaferro has a better chance of being steady. Forsett isn't suddenly more than he ever was and for whatever reason, it just isn't happening with Pierce. I could see Taliaferro starting by game 5.

Got Taliaferro on a majority of my teams for 4% of budget. Had to go bigger on Crowell ranging from 5-10%.
I got Taliaferro for 40% of budget; another guy outbid me and scored Crowell at 70%.

Goes without saying I'm not very good at this, and I compete against a bunch of rubes,

I drafted Taliaferro in all 3 FPC teams so I tried to get Forsett in all 3 but did not. I don't think ponying up 20%+ of your FAAB on Forsett makes sense, so I'm glad I didn't win him now. Really looking forward to see how the Ravens move forward. I think it's clear that Forsett is not an every down back. Pierce could still be the guy. Who knows how this will play out. Somebody will "win" the value award in all of this.

I play in league where we start 3RBs and can Carry 5 my RBs are LBell,Jennings,Green,Hill,Michaels I'm not sure who to drop it's a keeper league were we can keep a player for 4 years. Anyone on my team worth dropping for Crowell?

I count close to five things on this page that someone could either ask a Question? ie. What ya mean Rube's? Guys who don't follow FBG

Or

You could answer a (?) that is asking for your thoughts ex. How many carrys for Crowell in the "complement" role? I would say itll be 60-40, but is still subject to things like not making good decisions (making good choices)

Anyway of the five RB's, for your question to have any validity, I would eliminate LBell from discussion.. tbh Im not sure about Hill's value, and Im beginning to believe Michaels is overvalued (ie. 25 yrs old and still not starting) Im not even sure if he could handle every down, based on some plays. Greene is kind of a wildcard in my eyes (possibly undervalued?) Jennings also has a role..

I would suggest you spend some time studying up on Crowell Did you know things like his former College Coach not liking how he would

take himself out of games from time to time w/ supposed minor injurys
Its easier to make hard choices when you know what your acquiring and giving up. CMike is an awful lot to give up, Im just going to say that..

The biggest thing you may be overlooking is West. If the Browns really wanna see Tate playing, its probably best to run West the most, because it could appear a step back to play Tate after seeing a bunch of Crowell

p.s. If ya want to roster Crowell, I think the best answer is to trade two RB's for a Stud WR, and a questionable throw-in RB Or Combine one of your WR's w a RB for the same type deal

You could make a case to drop michael for Crowell. Crowell has already shown that he possesses the talent to be very good as an nfl Rb but like michael he has significant roadblocks in front of him to snagging the starting gig to himself.

Tough call though.

No of course we don't know it for sure. If we knew it for sure you wouldn't be able to add him because he'd already be rostered. Much like we know for sure that Arian Foster and Marshawn Lynch will get the bulk of the carries for their team. We know this and drafted accordingly. It's a risk to add Crowell or West. But as an owner, the stars appear to be lining up for one of them to seize this job. We shall see.

I understand, I picked up Crowell on the appearance of being the goalline guy for now, and his upside. Just was curious if anyone had a more compelling reason. That Oline looks beastly, they were manhandling PIT. Or maybe PIT is just that bad...

Coach Mike Pettine hinted that he sees Isaiah Crowell as more of a power back than Terrance West.

With Ben Tate (knee) out 2-4 weeks, West is going to be the starter. But the talented Crowell is going to mix in as well, possibly in the red zone. He scored from 3 and 15 yards out in the Week 1 loss to the Steelers. "I think Terrance is more of a 'can make you miss' guy. I don't know if Crowell wants to make you miss," Pettine said. Crowell, a former five-star recruit and SEC Freshman of the Year before off-field issues derailed his career, needs to be owned in most 12-team formats.

So this is how far the Shark Pool has fallen. We're labeling 3rd-stringers on bad teams as "the most important waiver wire players".

The thread title got cut off. It originally said the two most important waiver wire pickups in week 2.

That said calling them third stringers on bad teams is shortsighted IMO. This thread is all about foreword thinking and prognostication. Right now in most leagues both of these guys can be had for minimal investment. That window will close very quickly if or when one or both of them bust out.

I think that is the key. If you have room to stash one or both of these players, why not? I am always looking for high-upside talent at a value. Are either of these guys likely to be the savior of your 2014 fantasy team. No. Are they worth a minimal investment until their teams' respective situations shake out? Sure; if you have the roster space.

Pittsburgh defense is pretty bad. Their run defense requires a NT that can clog the middle and take on 2 guys and Steve McLendon is not that. Add to that a lot of new and young players to the complicated **** LeBeau defense and you have a lot of confusion and over-pursuit. The fact that their safeties led the team in tackles tells you they have some real problems.

They will get better but it is going to be a process that could take some time. For now, take any RB's numbers posted against the Steelers with a grain of salt: they are likely inflated a bit.

Just dropped Danny Amendola for Crowell, who was somehow still languishing in the free agency pool in my money league.

The fact that this thread exists signals the fact that the shark pool is still on track. We know how Kubiak functions and Talaiferro seems to be a great fit for the ZBS. Crowell is also blatantly talented and CLE projects to run the ball a ton this year. Crowell is already relevant and Talaiferro honestly isn't all that far off (he should get some opportunity tonight). There really aren't many better relatively free stashes at this point and it's good to see that the shark pool caught on rather quickly.

I don't see it at all with Crowell for significant redraft value barring injury to BOTH Tate & West.

West was very good vs. the Steelers & is the clear lead back with Tate injured. Tate doesn't have a season ending injury & should be back after the bye. Crowell isn't going to outright pass either -- this season.

Pierce and Forsett proving they're scrubs tonight. Only a matter of time before Taliaferro gets a shot as the featured back.
