Tampa Bay Bucs thread: back to back to back to back NFC South Champs (3 Viewers)

I loaded up on the Tampa D for fantasy this season.  Wasn't the best decision, but Tampa D was huge in the playoffs last year and I think it's better on paper this year.
While a lot has been made of the offense being injured not enough is being made of the defense getting healthy now. Entire secondary has been in and out all year.

Ryan Leaf guest hosting for Rich Eisen likes the Bucs (and Green Bay) . LINK

Also, I'm a little shocked I really like listening to Ryan Leaf. I think he's studied Rich Eisen because he emulates some of the speech patterns (pauses, inflections, etc) of Rich.

Bruce Arians says Leonard Fournette looked good this week and did not have the same setback he had last week.

Sounds like Lenny is probably a go. I think Jensen is for sure going. Wirfs game-time call, I guess he at least tries to play.

Perriman and RoJo out. Hopefully Grayson plays. Receiver getting thin.

If Brady gets some time maybe Miller or Grayson can get loose deep on some blown coverages.

Felt like our chances went up with the 9ers winning. TB is tough to beat at home.

Well boys, it was a good run! Bucs may not have won today but at least they didn't get embarrassed like was starting to look likely. Missed Wirfs today for sure. That missed FG bit us in the butt and I will never understand how you call a safety blitz leaving Kupp that open. I would blast Bowles but he was a big part of our win last year so he gets a pass this time.

Hard to believe we didn’t have the most crushing loss of the day yesterday.

That place was bananas when Fournette scored. I would have bet a million bucks we were going to win then. To go zero blitz against Stafford with no timeouts is criminal. Give them the 10-15 yards and keep them inbounds. Hope Bowles gets hired away.

Sorry, Capella.

Us Jets fans know the sting of Bowles's uneven blitzes and lapses in judgment. He's not a head coach, really. He and Leftwich left me confused yesterday.

But the offensive line's inability to protect Brady killed TB in the end. They almost got gifted overtime.

Hope Brady comes back and you guys make another run of it. I like this TB team.

I think he comes back. No Godwin, no Wirfs, they should be back next year and be fine. That was hard to watch in person at the end, definitely the most crushing sports loss I’ve ever sat through. Never seen a stadium like that at the end.

Oh wow, man, sorry. I guess being a Red Sox fan, I often think we had some real crushers up until 2004, so I always think of a loss like you guys suffered as "not so bad." Yeah, that must have been pretty tough.

Yep. If you can find a way to sign Godwin and Fournette, even, then Brady likely comes back. Might mean the defense is a little more suspect, but hey, keep the QB happy.

yea it’s been an awesome run for local sports but that was still hard to watch. I don’t think this team with all their injuries could have beat KC though, so just as well I guess.

I think they find a way to keep a lot of talent but spending a second round pick on a QB last year is looking pretty dumb. I mean obviously if he is a long-term starter, fine, but they could have used another player somewhere this year.

Bad vibes. Feeling like the end.
Isn't Jameis a free agent?

I don't think it's the end. I think they round everybody up and get back together for one more year, at least. Can't see Brady going out like that unless Giselle really puts her foot down on the family thing. Can't blame her. Might be time to put the Peter Pan shoes away and be a family man. But I still see another year. He's not walking away like that. I think.

If Brady retires I don’t see our free agents wanting to re-sign here to play with basically a rookie QB.  Or some other re-tread.

If Brady doesn’t retire I don’t see how we can keep everyone again, and even then, is that a championship roster? No, not anymore and several of those players were negatives in 2021.  Suh.  JPP.  So, from Tom’s perspective.. Why go through this for another year?

Just getting bad vibes.

I think he’s done.

Tough spot for the organization. But, we got our Lombardi. Forever.

Yeah, that's pretty good analysis, but I never said that free agents would re-sign to play without Tom. I just don't think Tom is hanging them up. Do they have enough if he does? I really don't know it intimately enough to comment.

Just blowing a little smoke today up your guys' bums in the thread today. I wouldn't worry so much. What I would worry about instead of retirement is that Anarchy99 speculated that he might want out of Tampa because of Arians and such, but that was pure speculation.

But Brady will use leverage like family. He always talked that way in NE, according to Anarchy99, and I remember the annual song-and-dance. It was leverage then. Perhaps it has changed. I'll believe he goes out with a loss like that -- and so suddenly -- when I see it.

I'm not worried.  I've endured close to 30 years of abysmal football with this franchise.  It won't effect me much if they go back to being bottom feeders.  It's a Bucs' Life.

I'd love to have him for another year though.  What fan wouldn't?  He led the NFL in basically every statistical category, and if he doesn't retire I imagine a lot (a few?) of these guys come back.  Their issues with teams like the Rams and Saints won't change in one off-season though.

This team also has a laundry list of starters that are free agents.  11 starters off the top of my  head.  They have no young ascending talent on offense.

I have a hard time seeing him coming back for a 10 win type season.

Why would I be worried about anything that guy says? It’s total nonsense. He’s the same guy that said repeatedly Tom wouldn't be successful in Tampa.

I think if he comes back they get close to 13 wins again. The problem is Bowles can’t figure out the Rams offense, but maybe somebody will hire him away.

LOL that was great. One of the funnier parts of the board last year come playoff time.

But he does know the Patriots and is usually dialed in to stuff like this. Not prognostication of his performance, but of knowing the sources and media speak.

Even if they sign Godwin, good chance he isn't ready and it is a "recovery" year for him.

I’m sure he knows the Pats very well; I highly doubt he is more dialed into what’s happening with the Bucs than me. There is no smoke to this fire.

Pro Football Network sources report that there is a "major exodus expected" from Tampa Bay following Tom Brady's retirement.

Looking slightly beyond the surface, this shouldn't be too surprising. It seems probable that Rob Gronkowski follows Brady into retirement. Gronkowski, WR Chris Godwin, C Ryan Jensen, and CB Carlton Davis are all unrestricted free agents. Head coach Bruce Arians has reportedly told his staff that they are free to look for other jobs around the league regardless of whether it's a promotion or not. The Bucs got a Super Bowl ring, but the future looks incredibly grim without Brady. This team could look completely different next season.

Did anyone think Trask was going to take over the reigns?

I get it but of course should Brady retire the entire team changes its look and I would expect a pretty quick rebuild

JPP will not be back, you can almost bank on it. Godwin isn't going to get huge dollars from a lot of teams after his injury, I could see him signing a short deal with the Bucs until he is 100% no matter who the QB is unless someone with a strong QB signs him but,,,if they have a strong QB they probably don't want a WR on the mend 1st year back.

There's a lot of moving pieces and a lot to digest. I hope the Bucs and their front office manages to get whatever rebuild is needed over as quickly as possible so in 2024 the Bucs are looking strong and have several key pieces in place as they try and find their future QB.

JPP won’t be back with or without Brady. He was horrible and he’s hurt pretty bad. Maybe a small deal in July or something.

Godwin is almost 100% coming back.

Suh will likely leave without Brady. Good chance Jensen leaves. Carlton Davis will be franchised. Gronk will obviously go.

If they get a decent QB somehow it’ll still be a good team but the ceiling is obviously way lower. Sucks. Hell of a two years though.

It will not be Trask though.

Sigh. Those injuries to Godwin and Wirfs are going to sting for a while now that Tom is gone.
Wirfs absence definitely had an impact in the final game. Who knows how things went if we were at 100% but that's the way it goes. I will love the Bucs no matter what but I expect next year to be a struggle.

Welcome to life after Brady.

I started watching the Pats in the mid 70's so I had to wait 25 years for the payoff.

It's painful at first, but definitely worth it.

Eh they’ve won 2 Super Bowls in 20 years and had a few years of Brady. It sucks he retired but I can’t be upset with anything.

And can we put to bed the Bruce Arians-Tom Brady nonsense?

I wanted to write the other day that no coach would put up with Antonio Brown, NONE! And yet he did so Brady could enjoy the extra weapon and you do anything to win a Super Bowl, win at all costs.

One more year, one final ride for all NFL fans.

Here is the good news

The Bucs LT and RT are Donovan Smith 14th/83 and Tristan Wirfs 6th/83

Brady has pillars at the Tackle spots and Wirfs is still on rookie deal so even if Smith is around $15M, well worth it.

Maybe you can't keep Cappa but how about Stinnie who stepped in a couple times for injuries and did pretty well from my memory. I'm sure with Brady coming back the Bucs will find some guys willing to come in on 1-yr deals for some of the IOL spots, not sure they can get Jensen back.

OL has got to be top priority at the moment.

Needless to say the Bucs don't burn any draft picks with Brady coming back. Plenty of FA Wide receivers and other players that will want to pile on, NFC a lot easier to make a deep run vs AFC right now. If someone truly want to try and play for a ring this is the team.

If Mel Gordon is a free agent I'd be interested.

Fournette might get attention from other clubs, there's not a lot of great names out there.

The Bucs Secondary is a mystery at times for me. It would seem the Bucs did a terrific job of drafting in recent years with a lot of these guys panning out and starting for them in the Super Bowl.

CB-Carlton Davis 28th/116 and one of the issues must be injuries since he only started 10 games and is thought to be a pretty wanted free agent Cornerback set to hit the market. Davis was a late 2nd round pick in 2018 #63 overall and if he does sign elsewhere I think the Bucs might get a compensatory pick but I could be wrong about that.

CB-Sean Murphy-Bunting($3.3M '22) 90th/116 and battled injuries all year, he definitely was not a shut down guy. Also a 2nd round pick in 2019 and has a year left on his rookie deal.

CB Jamel Dean ($2.75M) 19th/116 Saw extensive time last season and rated strong according to PFF, he was a 3rd round pick in 2019, the same year as SMB. In a perfect world, SMB bounces back to his 2020 form and Dean fills the void left by Davis and the Bucs are not having to overspend in their secondary where they have gotten by with a lot o f rookie deals to be able to afford Brady and all the other pieces.

S Jordan Whitehead 27th/92 and a 4th round pick 2018, same year as Carlton Davis and looks to be heading towards free agency. Bucs could lose or will lose 2 potential starters in their Secondary and they don't have a ton of cap space. They have a 1st and 2nd round pick but likely do not want to be reliant on the Draft and be forced into rookie starters in their secondary but they are drifting that way.

S Antoine Winfield Jr ($2M) 2nd/92 2nd round pick in 2020 and has been a massive find for the Bucs. They have had amazing success thru the draft stocking up their secondary.

S Mike Edwards ($2.75M) 47th/92 3rd Round 2019...again another guy they drafted in recent years still on his rookie deal and likely will see extensive time this season possibly filling in for Whitehead assuming he departs.

I'm just trying to get ahead.
you might be thinking of Cosmo?

[Day, interior of Brand/Leland, KRAMER's in LELAND's office. LELAND's a greying man.]

KRAMER What did you want to see me about, Mr. Leland?

LELAND Kramer, I've.. been reviewing your work.. Quite frankly, it stinks.

KRAMER Well, I ah.. been havin' trouble at home and uh.. I mean, ah, you know, I'll work harder, nights, weekends, whatever it takes..

LELAND No, no, I don't think that's going to, do it, uh. These reports you handed in. It's almost as if you have no business training at all..

I don't know what this is supposed to be!

KRAMER Well, I'm uh, just--tryin' to get ahead..

LELAND Well, I'm sorry. There's just no way that we could keep you on.

KRAMER I don't even really work here!

LELAND That's what makes this so difficult.
