Tampa Bay Rays 2010 thread (1 Viewer)

As if a 10-3 start and road sweep of the Sox wasn't good enough, Hellickson is making a joke out of AAA. What are they going to do with him? All the present starters are young and good, but you don't want to waste him in the minors all year either. Put him in middle relief for this year?

Soft-tossing lefties own them. And Buehrle tomorrow night.

Why not step out on Danks some more? Slow him down, screw with his routine some.

Let's see. Soft-tossing lefty. First 3 batters, 3 quick Ks. Nothing to break him of his rhythm.

Going to probably be a quick win for the White Sox.

Shame on me.Wade Davis is nasty.

Zobrist gets a 5-year extension.
 So who's left other than CC, Pena, and Upton? Garza priority #1? Then Bartlett?
They have Garza's rights through 2013; BJ through 2012. I imagine both will be eager to draw a 'real' paycheck. I think Bartlett will be allowed to test FA when his time comes. His skills are slowly eroding and he probably won't be worth the money he'll get. Plus they have Brignac ready now and Beckham in the low minors.CC will be gone. Wouldn't be shocked if Pena stayed on a team-friendly deal.

They are doing a solid job locking up their players. How long do they have Shields for? I think he would be a great player to trade after this season. Nieman, Wade Davis, and Hellickson (who some say is the best Rays pitching prospect in a while - which is saying something) are cheaper alternatives. Could get themselves a nice young hitter.I love what the Rays front office has done. Just an unreal job. From fantastic drafting, to great trades, from finding players off the scrap heap. This team is set up to be very successful for the next several years. Throw in the draft picks they will get when CC leaves. Wow.

They have James Shields through 2014 on a ridiculous contract. He may actually be their most untradeable pitcher.

2008 - $1-million

2009 - $1.5-million

2010 - $2.5-million

2011 - $4.25-million

2012 option - $7-million or 2-million buyout

2013 option - $9-million or $1.5-million buyout

2014 option - $12-million or $1-million buyout

2.5 million this year :yucky:

I don't know have any idea what they will do with Hellickson after this year.

This is a little ridiculous. :coffee:
This brand of baseball IS ridiculous. I've been a baseball fan for 30 years....and have never watched a team on a daily basis that was playing like this. And it's not just starting pitching and slugging...they are moving runners over in key spots, taking advantage of every mistake made by the opposition, focused in the field (that CC-JB-Jaso play last night)...I'm sure the pitching will not be this consistently good all season, and hitters will slump...but if they keep their heads in the game like they are now, I don't see how they go on any prolonged bad streaks.

I think the Ray's on the verge of becoming the best team in baseball over the next 5-6 years if they're not there already. That staff is already very good with Price, Shields, Garza, Davis, and Niemann, and Hellickson and Moore are top prospects. Their offense is already good and Jennings/Brignac are up and comers to add to the already talented core of Crawford, Upton, Longoria, Pena, and Bartlett. The Rays and the Red Sox certainly look like two ships passing each other in the night headed in opposite directions.

Tough night for the Rays. Longo's sacrifice fly was about 1 foot from a 3 run homer to win the game in the bottom of the 9th. They will get back on track today. Go Rays!!!

Didn't understand the handling of the bullpen on Sat night...tough loss...but a nice win today over a focused Greinke.

Any news on Joyce? Is there room for him on this team?
Rodriguez, Zobrist and Brignac are platooning between RF and 2B based on the pitching....Zobrist at 2B vs lefties and Brignac at 2B vs righties. Zobrist moves to right when Brignac plays 2B. Zobrist wont sit. So Joyce's opportunity would be to play in place of Brignac vs a rightie....which at this point seems unlikely to happen very often.

Nice win last night without Bartlett and Upton. 9-1 on the road is getting a little ridiculous.

You have to hope that all the gushing from the media and fans about how good they are doesn't go to their heads. Cocky, yet humble. You have to play this game with fear and arrogance.

True...but I'd be more worried if this same group hadn't already done this.I think they have a little Swagger this time around.

What worries me is that for as good as the Rays are playing, the damn Yankess are still only 1 game back and that's with ARod and Tex not even hitting yet. It's still gonna be a tough road for the division.

This team is a f'n MACHINE!

I finally smartened up and put some cash on them tonight. I'm gonna ride this train for awhile.

This team is a f'n MACHINE!
Amazing. I watched Neimann completely lose it (seemingly) in the 2nd by throwing 11 straight balls. Something was very off. So I go to bed, wake up and find out he only gave up 3 singles over the next 5 innings.CC hit a bomb! Sorry Yanks...you'll have to wait until Nov for that one.

22-7, can't remmeber a start quite like this since the Tigers in '84...I'm sure the Detroit Tigers were a little ahead of this pace but Tampa Bay is the most fun to wacth of any team I've seen since the Braves in the early 90s with Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz, likely 3 future HoF candidates.

The Rays can win a game 2-1 if they need to or they win 8-0 like they did the other night. I still feel like one more bat along the way would be helpful but they play hard as a team. One more thumper or long ball hitter might help but they really embody the word team. New York and Tampa Bay are putting an end to Boston in 2010 quickly...very happy about that.

Go Rays!!!
