No, I believe that's a big deal, as are the television rating numbers. I'm sure the ownership looks at all of this when evaluating the market. I just wonder where the new stadium is going to go, where they are going to get the money to build it, and if Sternberg really believes in the market.A lot of people on these boards blow off licensed sales numbers...but they usually mirror market or fanbase size, when teams are winning. So why are the Rays sales numbers bigger than attendance? The answer is obvious to me.
Hi.A guy with a .189 on-base percentage just took him deep. That almost seems impossible.Christ, Wheeler sucks.
Where did you hear that they can do this?gump said:So....if the team could just break the lease at the Trop and leave for another city...
They could always do this. Just gotta give up mucho :XWhere did you hear that they can do this?gump said:So....if the team could just break the lease at the Trop and leave for another city...
Isn't it like $150 million or something? Would be better off dumping that into the new stadium. They could always do this. Just gotta give up muchoWhere did you hear that they can do this?gump said:So....if the team could just break the lease at the Trop and leave for another city...![]()
This is what is confusing me. You hear the talk of the team thinking of moving to another area...but not being able to move to Tampa without some kind of deal worked out with St Pete. I don't understand the difference between moving to Tampa and moving to say Las Vegas.Premier said:Isn't it like $150 million or something? Stadium-wise, there probably isn't one. Money will be the same. But the fanbase is being built here, and doesn't seem to be too bad of a foundation. Plus, St. Pete will eventually come to its senses, realize it can't have the team in the city, will get a sweetheart deal on the lease and let them go to Tampa or the Pinellas County area that divides the bay. This is what is confusing me. I think you're right...I just don't understand why a move to another area is even being discussed. If a move to Tampa is too expensive for Stu without help from St Pete...then a move to Anytown, USA is also too expensive. But that's not how you hear people talk. Regardless...this team better get their heads out of their ###es...and quickly. They have been really streaky this season though, so it wouldn't shock me to see a 180.Stadium-wise, there probably isn't one. It's still just 1.5 games3 more with the Yanks this seriesI bet it ends up at .5 after ThursdayStill think the last series with the Royals is going to put you guys over the topAnd loser gets the Twins, which is arguably a more desirable opponentBacking into the playoffs. Wheeeee.
There's always the theory that pops up about once a year that before long one of the Florida teams ends up in Dallas and the NL. Even with cannibalization there's still money to be made here more than the mostly empty stadiums and crap TV deal in Florida.So....if the team could just break the lease at the Trop and leave for another city...why can't they do the same and move to Tampa?

Texas drew a whopping 3k more a game last year than the Rays. About 6k more this year. This year the Rangers are filling 62% of their new, modern stadium. The Rays are filling 53% of their craptacular dump. There's a better chance of Jesus himself pitching game 1 of the ALCS than there is of MLB putting a second team in the Dallas area.To purchase? Details please...Heads up for the Plaid "Brayzer" caps tonight.
Really wish i had been wrong hereRays are crazy resilient, a quality that will serve them well in the playoffsDon't think the Yanks have it this year$250 million doesn't buy what it used toI bet it ends up at .5 after ThursdayBacking into the playoffs. Wheeeee.
Champs, the Trop, the Rays downtown, and Sports Fan-Attic will have a 'few'....limited qty was produced. I'll see if I can give you a heads up on the day they hit the floor. We'll be making hook-up tees and fleece too.To purchase? Details please...Heads up for the Plaid "Brayzer" caps tonight.

I;ve never been a huge fanHe's certainly not horrible, and he did win a title last year, but he can be infuriatingHe makes a ton of questionable lineup decisions, and while he is often lauded for his bullpen usage, it has been kinda befuddling this seasonReally think he's a JAG manager (Just Another Guy)How are Yank fans feeling about Girardi these days?Really wish i had been wrong hereRays are crazy resilient, a quality that will serve them well in the playoffsDon't think the Yanks have it this year$250 million doesn't buy what it used toI bet it ends up at .5 after ThursdayBacking into the playoffs. As a casual observer...it seems to me that the Yanks are the most up and down team in baseball. They unbeatable one day...like an unfocused out-of-the-race team the next. How much blame does a manager need to take for that kind of inconsistency?I;ve never been a huge fanHe's certainly not horrible, and he did win a title last year, but he can be infuriatingHe makes a ton of questionable lineup decisions, and while he is often lauded for his bullpen usage, it has been kinda befuddling this seasonReally think he's a JAG manager (Just Another Guy)
I think a lot of that is a result of all the lineup and pitching juggling he has been doing. Lineup is never the same game to game. Pitchers getting shifted from rotation to pen and back quite frequently also. Doesn't allow the team to build up any momentum or rhythm. It seems the thought is that they can just roll their "A" team out there for the playoffs and win, but I am not getting the warm and fuzzys this yeargump said:As a casual observer...it seems to me that the Yanks are the most up and down team in baseball. No, haven't been able to get to the store yet. I did see Joe wearing it last night. I thought it looked great.I'm going to the game Tuesday, so if they have them at the team store then, I'll pick one up. Assuming it's not a $40 hat.Did you get one? Now lets avoid another 180.That t-shirt is awesome. Hats are as bland as flour, though. The only size t-shirts they had left when I got to the team store were medium. Had to pass. Will pick one up later.FYI...in the same vein as "9=8"...you'll see a Maddon-inspired Playoff Clinch tee unveiled and worn in the clubhouse when they clinch a berth. It will be different than a Division or Wild Card clubhouse tee.It looks pretty cool.
They'll have more tonight. The team is also setting up tents outside for the playoff games...they'll have plenty there. You'll also find them in Champs and Sports Fan-Attic today in the mall. There will also be some generic plaid wordmark and cap logo tees.Great game to pick to get to! Thanks...you too. That ALCS would have potential for greatness.Congrats guys:whoosh:As agita inducing as it would be, rooting for a Tampa/NYY ALCS
hell yea. I stayed damn near till they kicked me out. It was awesome!I'm definitely getting a shirt. The plaid block text would look outstanding on a hat. Stick a fork in them...with their lack of offense, I don't see them surviving the ALDS. Bummer.
Playoff history is littered with teams who slumped the last two weeks in September then played well after. It happens literally every year. How many .300 hitters do they have? Pitching only gets you so far in the playoffs.Premier said:Osaurus said:Stick a fork in them...with their lack of offense, I don't see them surviving the ALDS. Who cares how many .300 hitters they have? They've score the third-most runs in baseball this year. Sure, they're inconsistent, but over a 162-games, all teams are.How many .300 hitters do they have? 300 hitters. Really?2009 - Phillies had zero 300 hitters. Yankees had 2.2008 - Philles had zero 300 hitters. Rays had zero. How many .300 hitters do they have? Texas definitely will be a ##### of an out. Winning the AL East 2 out of 3 years with THOSE teams in the division is an incredible accomplishment. Amazing.Well deserved. Congrats. Can you do us a favor and get rid of Texas? No offense, but I'd rather face the Rays than Cliff Lee three times.
You can still buy plenty of really good seats on ticketmaster. There are going to be more than a smattering of Texas fans there. I imagine there will be seats available to all games walk-up all the way to the world series.Far be it for ESPN to report this after bashing this area for a week straight, but games A and B of the ALDS are sold out. Took less than 2 hours apparently.![]()
And you'll continue to be wrong. Both games A and B are announced sell-outs (for christ's sake, just google it and see yourself) and every single home game in the 2008 playoffs instantly sold-out.
