Tashard Choice on the block? (1 Viewer)

Just read this snippet on Rotoworld and found it quite interesting:

Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports that the Cowboys are fielding trade offers from teams about Marion Barber and Tashard Choice.Watkins cites "multiple sources," but one source tells ESPN's Matt Mosley that the team will not trade Barber. It's interesting to note that the story does not downplay the possibility of Choice being dealt. Though a trade seems unlikely, Dallas is in wheeling-and-dealing mode, having sent away Patrick Crayton and Pat McQuistan on Friday. Check back Saturday for an update.
If this is true, what teams do you think would be kicking the tires? I'm very bullish on Choice's dynasty stock and think he's a future feature back that is just mired behind two other talented runners. If given the chance, I think he could be a very good starter in the NFL which would also make him a good fantasy player. A few off the top of my head:Seattle - no clear cut #1 and and about to dump Housh to free up room, most think it's for V-Jax but what if they're trying to open up a roster spot for Choice instead?Oakland - Bush injury worse than feared? Coaching staff doesn't feel McFadden can carry the full load?Miami - Brown brittle, Ricky aging.Cleveland - Hardesty done for the year, coaching staff possibly reluctant to hand the reigns to Harrison?Philadelphia - Unlikely being a division rival, but McCoy only so-so thus far.Denver - would clearly hurt Choice's dynasty stock but makes sense in reality. Moreno's hammy a concern and RB depth dropping like flies.Houston - promising Johnson hurt, Tate done, Slaton question marks.I think the best case for Choice from a fantasy perspective would be in Seattle where I think he would very quickly become the starter there. He would be easily the most talented back on the roster if he ends up there and would make a very sneaky buy low candidate for this season if people aren't paying attention. Clearly I'm speculating, but there's not much else to talk about between now and Week 1.

Chances of either Marion or Choice being traded are slim to none. Unless a team offers a 2nd or possibly 3rd I dont see Dallas pulling the trigger especially with the injury history of Felix and Marion.

I'd be very surprised to see them move either of them unless it is something signficant like a 2nd rounder which nobody is going to offer. It just doesn't seem like you get much when you trade players away for picks these days.........Patrick Crayton for a 7th, that's a steal for the Chargers. That may save Jerry Jones a few bucks but that doesn't the play on the field as far as I'm concerned.

Barber and Jones have a history of getting dinged. T. Choice is a great 3rd string back that knows the offense now that can come in with fresh legs and at times outperform the two guys ahead of them. I'm content with having him stay right where he's at, he'll get some work this year.

Jerry's trying to get to the Super Bowl THIS YEAR so he can play in it inside his mammoth stadium. He's not trying to save money or trying to stockpile future picks. He's not looking past Feb. 6th. You could argue that the Crayton deal was snagging picks but it was just a numbers game and someone had to go. Crayton was the one running his mouth and wanting to leave, so Jerry obliged. Choice is a team-guy and far from a disturbance in the locker room. He knows he could start. We know he could start. Even Jerry knows he could start. But Choice keeps his mouth shut and doesn't cause controversy within the ranks. That's why Jerry will keep him. IMO he will play a role in trying to get them to the big game. Jerry won't get rid of him, at least not this year.

Maybe Dallas homers could help out here, but it seems Felix is Jerry Jones guy, and he wants Felix to be the starter. Meanwhile Phillips does not exactly share in Jones enthusiasm about Felix. Could Jerry be trying to move one of Barber or Choice to force Wades hand in giving Felix a bigger workload?

I find it funny that over the last year or two, both Barber and Choice's names have come up in trade rumors multiple times. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire.

I know the Cowboys want to win this year, and Barber and Jones arent exactly the most durable guys, but most teams dont have 2 runners as good as the Cowboys, i dont think the Cowboys need to have 3. Maybe they are not trying to trade one for a pick, but a player that might help them more than a 3rd RB.

It would be my guess that Barber would be the one to go, but i am guessing they would fetch more for Choice.

Either way, as a Felix fan, i find it encouraging that the other two guys names keep coming up in trade rumors. That has to be good for Felix owners, right?

Trading Choice makes no sense for 2010 unless there was a need to make a complimentary move to provide depth on OL.

But, you won't be able to get ANY NFL team to give up an OL-man worth his salt at this stage of the year.

As a Felix and Choice owner I welcome the trade of Choice. I really don't see it happening unless Dallas can get an impact player this season.

After last night's mis-informed reports began surfacing, I'm sure there were teams calling the Cowboys to inquire. That's where the "fielding trade offers" comes from. As of this morning the Cowboys have said they are happy with their RBs and have shot down the trade talks.

Makes no sense to trade anyone. Barber and Felix have been injured each year. Choice has to be on this team.

Is it possible that the Cowboys are looking to trade Barber, but teams want Choice, and thats where all this trade talk is coming from? Is there a chance the Cowboys cut Barber? I know its seems crazy, but it wouldnt shock me.

I would be surprised too.

I think this Article says it best. And I don't see Choice going anywere. The Cowboys are making a SB run. It in Dallas this year. They drafted Dez Bryant. They know Felix and Barber have been nicked up in past seasons. If they are going to make a run they HAVE TO HAVE CHOICE. THis really sucks for me because I have Tashard in multiple dynasty leagues. And his value sucks because he gets 4-6 carries and catches a pass on occasion because he is the 3rd string back. But he is the best all around back they have I think.

This is one of the rare times I'll side with a player. Crayton never had a chance on this team. While the public answer is he was kept to insure in case of injury, if they really felt that way, they had Hurd and Ogles at the position. If they felt both were more valuable than Crayton, that would have sufficed. The reality is Crayton was kept because Jones was waiting for Roy Williams to do something, do anything, to justify not cutting him this year and looking bad if Crayton outplays him. I think Crayton has a point, he's not going to be a starter on a good team, his trade compensation would be low no matter what, just move him early so he can acclimate to a new team and a new playbook and have half a chance at success. That's the thing about NFL GM's, if they get you, they publicly want you to succeed, if they get rid of you, they privately want you to fail ( to validate you going, do you think anyone on the Raiders office enjoyed watching Randy Moss score touchdown after touchdown and the compensation was a 4th round pick with Al Davis throwing a tantrum in the hallways? Do you think the Bowlen family wants Jay Cutler to succeed? So that success would be thrown in their face until the end of time?)I don't see anything wrong with what Crayton is doing here. He just wanted an early chance out to find a new job and secure it. It's not just about compensation, it's about morale and thinking ahead. When Carl Peterson dangled Trent Green for months and months, trying to squeeze every last drop out of him, did that help his cause with his own players and potential free agents? All the years the Cardinals and Browns were known for their chaos and cheapness, did that reputation help them at all? Something no one ever talks about with the "evil" Yankees is they treat their players extremely well. Not just money. But once they walk in the door, the franchise tries to set itself apart from other teams in amenities. I don't think getting cut is the same thing as how you get cut. How you treat a long time veteran has a ripple effect in your locker room. It makes free agents consider how they might be treated. If Roy Williams is a slap **** and Crayton was a good soldier, that is going to cause morale problems on this team. People in ruthless professions can learn to live with hard rules of engagement, as long as those rules are consistent and as long as those rules uphold a sense of a meritocracy. Without that, you have chaos. It's not whether Crayton is worth a 7th. He far exceeded his original draft value as most 7th rounders never make their teams. It's whether Cowboys look petty or not, is that worth a 7th round pick? That's a different question.
:goodposting: Nice work Gordon.

Barber not on trade block: After the Cowboys made a few trades on Friday, which included shipping WR Patrick Crayton to the Chargers, rumors began to surface about RB Marion Barber being on the trade block. However, Cowboys officials told The Dallas Morning News that there have been no talks involving Barber and he is not being close to traded. The Cowboys also said they aren't look to deal him either. (Updated 09/04/2010)Injury ReportNo information available at this time (Updated 9/4/10).Fantasy AnalysisThe other day a story came out on Barber and how his bruising running style is what the Cowboys' coaches want from him at the beginning of games. At the same time, owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern that Barber might not be able to hold up for an entire season because of his running style. Well, the team does have Felix Jones and Tashard Choice in its back pocket just in case. Barber has performed well in the preseason in his coaches' eyes and even is running with more speed. Barber is not the touchdown vulture he once was, but it still seems Dallas likes him as its feature back. Consider Barber a nice low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy Fantasy RB.
