Tatum Bell to the New York Jets? (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
(Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets have some interest in Denver Broncos RB Tatum Bell. The team may need a running back if RB Curtis Martin (knee) is sidelined for the start of the season.)

I know there are a lot of rumors out there but this would make some sense to me. Tatum has shown some real flashes...much more than a Chris Brown, maybe Shanahan demoted him to tell teams he was accepting trade offers.

The guy was spouting off that Denver has no confidence in him, he really seemed like he wanted out if it were at all possible...I don't think Shanny demoting him this time motivated him much...he was motivated coming into camp and most reports were that he was running with the 1st team and looking good.

Do you blow this off as pure speculation? My link is RTSports so check there is you need it in writing but I pasted it from there.

Anyone ever hear of Tom Rock? Me neither

:loco:

Curtis Martin maybe/maybe not retiring

+

Mike Bell being announced the starter before pre-season Week 1

Endless endless rumors spawned by pure speculation of countless writers based on the two factors above.

Why...

...would Denver choose to part with one of their best assets at RB with an UDFA "on the top" of their dangerously unimpressive depth chart?

Why...

...would the Jets want to pay whatever price Denver would be willing to trade Bell for (given the above question) when they are OBVIOUSLY a rebuilding team?

We all could've expected the numerous "<Insert RB Here> to the Jets?" threads, but...still. :wall:

Don't really see this happening at all. Who is Mike Bell and why would they put their full faith behind this guy? Ya, it's a nice story so far but he hasn't even played one preseason game let alone a regular season game. That would leave Dayne as the only other back on the roster with any real NFL experience (which hasn't really been too impressive to date). This is the NFL not fantasy football.

How is Bell>Brown? Or are people forgetting the '04 season already? Bell, running behind the formidable Denver line, can't seem to win the starting job from Ron Dayne or an undrafted rookie. Chris Brown is the best back in a camp that includes a former 1400 yard rusher who hasn't hit 30 yet, and a 1st-round talent in Lendale White. I guess nobody here remembers how impressive Chris Brown was in '04, when he led the league in rushing halfway through the season, and was on pace for like 1500 yards before he got hurt in game 11.

I can't see them trading for another 3rd down back. They have plenty on their roster.

Why would they need Bell ...............

I dont think he could beat Houston or even Blaylock, cmon he cant beat Dayne and a undrafted rookie.

The most logical rumor I've seen is Suggs to the Jets. He seems to be out of favor in Cleveland and is rumored to be at risk of being released. Why not get something.

Bell wasn't demoted, Dayne was. Bell started off as #2 RB behind Dayne, now he's #2 RB behind M.Bell.
bitter TBell owner ?Tatum Bell WAS demoted from starter in 2005to backup in 2006.
As a huge Broncos fan who watched every game last year multiple times I can say 100% that you are dead wrong. Mike Anderson was the starter and Tatum Bell was the change of pace back. He was not the starter.

Let's put two and two together here. E Coleman has an apendectomy, and Mangini stills refuses to admit that, calling it an "illness". This team, FO and CS is tighter than a freakin clam when it comes to inside info. They also refuse to discuss how Martin really is.

All of a sudden, every phone call (most likely) to every other team that might have a RB to trade is getting leaked. Anyone besides me think this is more than coincidental?

Let's just say the Jets really want Turner of SD. The asking price is too high. They call every freakin team in the NFL asking about RB's and their availabilty. Majically, a leak springs in the FO.

The Jets have NO leverage in trade talks. IMO, they are trying to create some, in the hope that one of the teams invlolved might blink.

This is eerily reminisent of what went on prior to the Abraham trade. That in fact worked out OK for the Jets, who knew Abraham wanted no part of remaining with the team, giving the Jets little leverage....until they created some competition for his services. Same thing, but in reverse. They are the buyers now, even enlisting the press corp to furher their efforts. Pretty slick. Might not work, but still, pretty slick.

I wouldn't assume Bell is not capable of starting on a lot of team in the NFL...some players simply need an opp with a team that's really behind them. Bell has shown some real explosiveness that I don't see in some of the other RB that have been kicked around in NY.

I dont like to always take it as face value that players running 2nd and 3rd team are always lesser players. Does anyone think Schaub might be able to move the ball better than Vick who maybe ought to be converted to a WR/RB type of player...or brough in for just certain series? I would have a hard time defending Vick.

I'm sure this is a blurb like others are saying...and the Jets like everyone's backfield besides their own...but I also think this speaks of the young coach. You gotta be able to run the football and find a successor to CuMart. Mangini did not do that really. If it is going to b Cedric Houston then fine but if you don't have faith in him you shouldn't have drafted him. Blaylock? C'mon!

I have to actually agree with all of the above posts... A) this deal probably won't happen (even though Mike Shannahan doesn't like Bell's makeup), they don't got much elseB) Chris Brown is not a much worse option (and has produced numbers comparable to Bell in his career, especiallyin the beginning of 2004) and would probably require the same amount of compensation in any tradeC) Bell has never been demoted as far as I can remember, he's always been second fiddle and has only started 2 or 3 career games.

Mangini didn't draft Houston - Herm did. Mangini drafted Leon Washington - a guy likely far from ready to go. They still need a replacement - for at least a year for CMart.

Rovers is spot on -- this is the Jets trying to create heat and get some sort of leverage. Mangini is an interesting cat so far -- tight with the injury reports ala his mentor but flashy enough to try this.

This would be a great move. Add some certainty to two different teams. I love this news. I hope it comes to fruition and this guy is not just a fruit.
