Agreed. You've got the coin to afford your own personal cabbie. Use it, please. If not for you, then for the people who watch you, the people who don't watch you, the people who don't know you from Adam...basically just call the cab.Call a freaking cab you morons.![]()
He's not going to miss any time, but its something to be aware of.Is he going to miss 4 games? Season? What's the scoop here.
Agreeing to a sobriety test is the mistake that hurts him the most. Not sure why they dont call a car service. I just assume Pro atheletes' egos wont allow them to cab it when their out bouncin'.1. Allways pay cashI was just going to chime in with the same thing...call a cab!
It's so freaking easy to call a car service. The problem is that so many of these guys drive to the clubs or restaurants in expensive cars and don't want to leave them in the lots. Their mistake is not arranging a limo service to GO to the places in the first place. Jeesh.
Not taking a sobriety test is not a magic bullet. All an Officer has to do is show impairment (driving, breath, droopy/watery eyes, fumbling for license, etc.). Refuse the BAC at the jail and automatic suspension for one year. Take the test and blow +08., 30 days suspension (1st offense). Most attorney's advise their client to answer no questions but blow!!Agreeing to a sobriety test is the mistake that hurts him the most. Not sure why they dont call a car service. 2. Never admit to drinking
3. Never take a sobriety test
Define "act swiftly"Drunk driving is a major problem in our society. If guilty, the courts, the league, and the Sea Hawks should act swiftly.
People choosing to drive drunk have lead to the death of many innocent people who were otherwise living promising lives. I hope that you haven't lost someone whom you loved to one of these idiots. If the word "severely" is easier to comprehend you are welcome to substitue it for "swiftly". Unfortunately, my opinion is guided by a rather harsh and enduring experience.Define "act swiftly"Drunk driving is a major problem in our society. In a first offense, non accident DUI there is no severe penalty. DUIs are not a joke but they are a very, very common irresponsible mistake that most of the time ends up without injury or death. Doesn't excuse it, but that's the truth of it. But as far as punishing him severely, it's not going to happen nor should it be without an accident. He will get punished moderately by the law as he should be, but not by the league or team as it's his first offense as well as being the first negative piece of news about him. I doubt it's indicative of anything other than poor judgement. He's a smart guy, not at all like KoRo or Stevens, and is the unquestioned leader of the D, I would be very surprised to see any further incidents from him.People choosing to drive drunk have lead to the death of many innocent people who were otherwise living promising lives. Agree, but won't happen in Washington St. He will get a plea deal and his DUI will be knocked down to a Negligent Driving (non criminal offense). He will have to do AA meetings (or a victims panel) and that will be most of it.phthalatemagic said:First time offenders should do at least 30 days in jail.mad sweeney said:In a first offense, non accident DUI there is no severe penalty. Yeah, let's go ahead and let him lose his family's house and his job because he had 3 glasses of wine at dinner. All while we don't check for pot, prescription drugs or other illegal substances.phthalatemagic said:First time offenders should do at least 30 days in jail.mad sweeney said:In a first offense, non accident DUI there is no severe penalty. Not sure if you are aware, but people that knowingly get behind the wheel of a car drunk can kill people. That's pretty serious. Maybe you don't care about all of the people dead due to these types of decisions, but I do.Yeah, let's go ahead and let him lose his family's house and his job because he had 3 glasses of wine at dinner. I can't see how you've offended anyone by your stance. DUIs are one of those shadowy offenses that is truly two different crimes in the eyes of the law depending on if someone was hurt or not. Neither is excusable, but our system isn't set up to punish potential results. I haven't really seen anyone say Lofa did nothing wrong or that he's never done it before, just that he's never gotten into trouble for it before. I still believe you can be a quality individual even after a DUI provided you actually learn from that and realize what could've very easily have happened, which I believe Lofa to be. That's what I did, and when I found myself behind the wheel drunk after mine was long gone I put the booze down again forever to keep it from happening. As for some of your points: Once you're pulled over there is no more danger and you go into legal self defense. You can tiptoe around but at that point the cop has you and minimizing the damage to yourself is not, IMO, a cowardly act. Although self preservation and cowardice often go hand in hand. The sheer terror of legal action, whether it hits you or not, will make a man change his ways if he is capable of it.Lofa's statement afterwards made no excuses for it. And it was truly a bad decision because a .15 is a lot of alcohol for a man his size.So hopefully Lofa is a man of his word, and quite frankly I have seen no reason why he wouldn't be. Showing the poor judgement to drive drunk is not indicative of poor character or defects, just a lack of smarts and understanding of what could happen legally or bodily and a large number of first time offenders don't have a second.I don't feel like cutting and pasting comments in this thread, but I will leave a few random thoughts.- I am a Seahawk fan who has always believed Lofa to be a quality individual.- An individual arrested for the first time is rarely a first time offender.- A man of Lofa's size doesn't blow a 0.15 after having some red wine with his meal.- Comments suggesting that when pulled over an individual should lie and avoid a sobriety test are simply foolish. If you plan to drink then plan for someone else to drive. Avoiding the truth is a cowardly act.- I have heard an individual plead his case after killing loved ones because he chose to drink and drive. "I didn't mean to kill" and "it was my first time" ring awfully shallow to a family who has buried children.Obviously this is an emotional issue for me so I will leave this thread and hope that I haven't offended anyone with my viewpoints.
And people who knowingly drive sober can kill people while changing the radio, texting people, picking up something that fell, swerving while a bug flies in, sneezing, eating, and many other reasons. Should they also face the same penalty. I mean they are in there to drive, right.First time offenders will get a huge hardship. If they happen to kill someone (very rare) they will get a bigger hardship. 30 days in jail is ridiculous and it has nothing to do with how much I care about anyone. That's like putting everyone who's caught with marijuana in 90 days of rehab. Not sure if you are aware, but people that knowingly get behind the wheel of a car drunk can kill people. That's pretty serious.
