TE Brock Bowers, LV (1 Viewer)

Is Bowers too risky of a buy atm? Being a Raider fan I am dying to land him on my fantasy team finally but this injury has me a little shook.

With the TE landscape as gross as it is I am tempted to make a move for one of the few elites.

If you actually have to start a TE in your league I'd be all over doing this. I think any risk with Bowers is a few weeks.

I'd chop a TE or Allgier.

Yes it’s a 1 TE league. I just spent 17% on Fannin in hopes he’d be a cheap mans Warren.

Brock is a beast and I think the O should go through him. I just don’t love my RB depth if I move Achane.

If it was me once I locked up the SEA backfield I'd not worry about my depth. Might make for some difficult starting lineup calls but think also could easily sort out any week. Knowing I got a whole backfield that I think will produce would easy my depth concerns. Especially if you keep Allgeir and have two backfields secured. You would seem very solid

You don't do this and lose Achane. Now you got a RB depth problem.

Same Achane that just lost his RG and RT for at least a month? And get to keep Bowers for two years? All day long
Same, almost a no-brainer choice for me. MIA somehow has a ton a talent but is a complete disaster. Although I am not as concerned about Achane’s size as most, hits add up if you are 190 at most. He takes a beating this year and next on a struggling team and who knows what is next. Bowers is potentially a generational talent. In my dynasty league I would do that straight up.

Appreciate the feedback gang! I didn’t intend to derail this thread which is why I posted the link to my assistant coach thread.

However the replies are making me think I should do this…

Anyone starting him this week? I drafted him in one league where I went later on receivers and really don’t have anyone I want to drop, but if I did , I could grab Schultz or Otton (or Mayer I guess) to protect myself. It’s a 50-50 projected matchup, but I’m still not sure it’s even worth it for what will probably be single digits from any of those replacements vs just rolling the dice on bowers playing.

I am currently torn - have Hunter Henry I could play, or I could drop Henry and pick up Mayer, and roll with Bowers, unless he is inactive.

Pete said in his presser yesterday that Brock practiced great and expects him to play. I personally paid up for Mayer on waivers and feel good about the move, not only in case of a set back Monday night but for the season.

If he plays he starts for me. I can’t play guessing games on usage til end of the season

Of course I would but the problem is that he doesn’t play until 10 on Monday night so we are not going to know if he’s really playing until after everyone else has played and can’t make roster moves. I know that Pete is saying good things but I don’t totally trust that, especially since bowers only got in the one practice.

if he plays im starting him. Mayer is plan B

This is where I landed. I don't think you risk a knee injury on a "decoy". Carroll may be playing games with his comments, but I don't think he will risk Bowers unless it's to go full tilt. If he is not fit, I think he will be inactive, and I will slot Mayer in if that happens.

Ah I see, I guess the only waiver guy I'd sit him for without knowing your team is someone like Breton Strange.

Alternately I'd look at rostering Mayer, Dissly, Schultz, etc as widely available guys as a Monday hedge.

It's a very tough decision for me geez. My big redraft tourneys we can/could only pick up players this morning during the 7am waiver run (which I did and grabbed a couple Mayer hedges). But in the other spots where I didn't get him I have to commit one way or another by the 10am kickoffs (west coast). There's a double header MNF so I can wait and start Schultz tomorrow if I wanna wait in that one example.

But otherwise I have to poop or get off the pot. I can pop in Theo Johnson, Gesicki or Jake Tonges or risk taking a 0 if Bowers doesn't play. (Or if he is limited or gets reinjured)

Another TE option to hedge for Bowers that nobody mentioned is Conklin. He had 50 yds week 1 and should have a decent floor and may have a TD chance.

think the more important decision are the owners who have a Fannin or Juwan Johnson as their backup TE and if they should start them over BB.

Still my plan…..

I picked up Mayer (dropped hurt Goedert) so I at least have a decent Monday night option. Want to give Bowers every chance to play in my lineup, he’s far too valuable to not.

Have that in 1 spot as a fallback. My other choice is do I start Kincaid here in an hour where I’m still probably favored to win with Kincaid.

I own both and starting both. I don't trust an ingame reagravation for Bowers.
I hope they sit him tbh. MM is a very capable backup. No need to rush Bowers back imo.

So I benched Bowers at TE and played Kraft, which worked out well. Now that Bowers is supposed to play (but not knowing how much), is he the play at flex over Tillman? PPR. ESPN has me favored by 15 with Tillman in. Is Tillman the safer play or do I roll with Bowers (with Mayer and Thornton on my bench)?

I don't own Bowers and would certainly play him if he is healthy in every game. But I wanted to point out the Chargers aren't his best matchup.

Last season, in 2 games vs. the Chargers:
  • On 17 targets, he had 10/108/1 receiving
  • He had his 3rd lowest and 5th lowest PFF offense grades
  • He scored 11.8 points in week 1 and 15.0 points in week 18, both fine games but about 2 ppg below his season average
I realize it's a new offense, QB, etc., plus 2 games is small sample size. I'm interested to see if it becomes a trend.

Since you have Thornton and Mayer available I would plan on Bowers and pivot if you have to.

Any “insiders” got any last minute updates on Bowers’ status?

My only pivot is Pitts tonight so I’m (selfishly) hoping someone has more info than me.

I'll add, the only TE to top 60 yards when Derwin James is healthy is prime Travis Kelce.

What's new today? Is he playing?
I have no additional information other than the coach speak we've gotten so far, but I trust Carroll to speak honestly about Bowers' odds to play and my gut is telling me he will be active for the game. Likely a GTD but trending toward playing. Not where you want to be as a fantasy manager of course but if you have him you probably already made your backup plans.

Nothing actually confirmed but Sporting News suggests that the lack of elevating of another TE from the practice squad is "great news" for his playing tonight.

They don't need another TE when they have Wreck it Ralph in the house.

8 MM targets incoming

I love Mayer. But it goes without saying that Bowers >> Mayer. So even if you think Bowers is going to be a decoy, you gotta roll with him.

Can we please get a few passes his way. Please. I only need 10 points in my TE premium league and so have the Geno/Bowers stack. Though it was a cake walk. Now I’m sweating.

Yeah, he’s sporting a hefty knee brace and Geno isn’t looking his way. Appears to be just a decoy.

Hoping he can salvage the night with a TD.
