TE Jelani Woods, IND (1 Viewer)

ive seen him surprisingly high on some dynasty rankings.

The potential alone he should have a decent ranking. Is a monster physically without much talent in front of him and in my opinion colts are going to be a good offense with Richardson at the helm
I have him, and I like him, but Richardson's passing ability is not why. I think Richardson will be a scattershot arm but jelani is a big athletic target who doesn't need a perfectly accurate pass to make plays
I'm saying I think the whole offense is going to be better with a more dynamic quarterback then*checks notes* a washed up Matt Ryan. The colts have weapons at all positions this year.

The Indianapolis Star reports Jelani Woods is the most likely Colts tight end to take on the Dallas Goedert role in head coach Shane Steichen's offense.

"Woods is the only Indianapolis tight end who’s shown he has the athleticism to stretch the field the way Goedert can," the Star reported. Woods will compete with six other Indy tight ends this summer, with the team likely to keep three tight ends to start the season. A 2022 third-round pick, Woods as a rookie caught 25 of 40 targets for 312 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 12.5 yards per catch and had an average depth of target of 10.7 yards. Like most rookie tight ends, Woods said he struggled to pick up the multiple roles he had to learn in last year's offense. Woods profiles as a fine late-round dart throw who should at least have a chance to run consistent routes in Steichen's offense.

#Colts HC Shane Steichen on third-year TE Jelani Woods, who Steichen never really got to work with last year due to Woods’ hamstring issues.

“(You) see how long he is and how he can run (and the) different things you can do with him.”

Breakout Performer: "Jelani Woods really caught my eye during that session. After not seeing him on the field at all last year due to his nagging hamstring injuries, I honestly forgot how big and freakishly athletic Woods is. He caught a lot of passes during team drills, and Steichen said afterward that he noticed the 'different things you can do with him.'"

The Coachspeak Index
“A big-bodied tight end that can run the vertical routes, run the shallows, run the deep cross. It’s awesome to see. Obviously, he’s a matchup for a defense that they gotta be prepared for.”

— #Colts HC Shane Steichen on Jelani Woods

Took him with the last pick of a recent rookie draft that includes vets. I'd rather have him over most of the 4th round fodder available.

"The Colts have left their top tight end role open to [Woods], and if his off-season work to reshape his lower half can create a sustainable year, he could break out in the biggest of ways with a play designer like Shane Steichen and a downfield quarterback like Richardson in a run-heavy, play-action-heavy offense.

"Without him, Steichen has shown he can hodgepodge together a tight end room of more than 800 yards in production. But Woods offers the only real upside of the group."

I like Jelani's upside this year, he should thrive in Shane Steichen's scheme. Good one to target if you punt on TE and want to try the ying/yang TE strategy. Essentially draft one guy with a decent floor and another with a high ceiling. Woods being the latter type IMO.

And if Richardson misses time we know Flacco definitely targets TEs.

“I did think (Jelani) Woods had his best day on Wednesday, catching each pass that came his way, snagging some first-team rotational reps and creating a nice gain up the seam in 11-on-11. He dropped a touchdown the other day, so he still has some ups and downs.”

I don't think the Colts want to part with Woods, but he might be on the bubble. I don't see both Mallory and Woods making the team. Granson, Allie-Cox, and Ogletree are a lock. They may carry 4, but I doubt they carry 5 TEs. I'm sure the Colts want to see what they have in Woods, who is coming off an injury from last year, and he can play special teams. Mallory is only an option as a receiver, so he could be the odd man out. Or Woods could be for all I know.

Former Colts Day 2 stud on verge of getting cut after lackluster preseason

Then add insult to injury....pun intended....
In the second quarter of the Colts preseason matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, it was reported that Jelani Woods exited the game with a toe injury and is questionable to return.

Fantasy players have a knack of being a lot higher on players than the NFL is, especially dynasty players. I’m guilty as charged.

On Jelani Woods: "...since returning this year, he's struggled to stand out from the team's other TEs on the roster throughout training camp and the preseason. The Colts have five TEs who all have a solid case to earn one of the team's roster spots, and when it comes to Woods, the team will have to choose if they value the potential he holds over the play other TEs can provide right now."

Granson is the guy I've been scooping of WW in dynos. He's very short for a TE, but still has some throw weight, and can threaten the seam.

Woods missing time would remove his only real competition as a pass-catching TE. Whether the Colts decide to actually *have* a pass-catching TE is an open Q.

Get him on IR already. Or maybe not, so I can outright drop him.
Ive dropped him. so have several others. He is still lying on the wire even in FCFS situations.

He was my TE3 in the leagues I dropped him. Replaced by Knox/Parkinson in those leagues FWIW.

I've dropped him in several dynasty leagues. I don't see the point on holding anymore. Can't stay healthy and he'd be at best maybe 5th option in that offense. No thanks.

Again, why not put him on your IR, if you have one? Then if someone else gets injured and you need the IR spot, drop him then, not now.

Before the injury, he wasn't making any noise. He's gonna be 26 years old in a month.

Other young dudes to own.

Worth an IR spot? Sure. Better than an empty slot, I suppose.

Yes that's my plan where I can. In leagues with only 1 IR spot I know I am going to need that for someone better before December, so I am cutting him now in case some else drops an intriguing name to put Woods on their IR slot.

That's odd. Why drop a player "just in case" someone intriguing is dropped, or "I'm going to need that for someone better before December"? You can just drop Woods or whoever else at any given time if you need the IR spot later. Go ahead and put Woods on IR now and that opens up a roster spot anyway. I don't think dropping Woods hoping someone will drop a good player to pick him up seems like a reach to me, but each to their own. I personally would just put Woods on the IR until I need that spot for someone else, then drop him then.

In a single IR slot league he is going to get dropped before he is healthy again. No point in holding at this stage, Maybe it triggers release of a player I like. Maybe it clogs another team's roster. The point is he has 0 chance of being on my roster when he returns so i have no upside in keeping him over others.

Season ending IR.

Which in this case is Dynasty Career ending IR
