TE Kyle Pitts, ATL (4 Viewers)

Stuck it out through getting mediocre scoring from your TE spot for most of 4 years to get one good game where several people just posted they had him on the bench anyway?

I hope he keeps it up for you, but just saying the victory laps on future long-term value may be a little soon.
I'd be looking to take advantage by packaging for an upgrade (like I did last year).
nobody’s taking victory laps.

Just let people enjoy things. Sheesh.

This is a really bad look, dude.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone else, but for me, anything I've said about Pitts has not at all been meant in an "I told you so" sort of way. Just commenting moreso on this season being promising, and his overall usage being a pretty good indicator that it MAY be sustainable. That's it. Not anointing him as the next Gates, not saying he's a future HOF'er, etc. But, he has made some strides this year, and he's on the field more (and doing more with that time in terms of production).

My Tight End Journey: A Tale of Regret and Redemption

  • Started strong with Sam LaPorta. Then Sam was put on IR.
  • Cut LaPorta for Kyle Pitts (yes, I know…).
  • Gave up on Pitts 2–3 weeks ago and grabbed Darren Waller.
  • Waller’s poor performance led me to cut him last week.
Then I read that with Kirk Cousins in the mix, Pitts was finally getting more looks. Against my better judgment, I thought: “Why not? Let’s hop back on the Kyle ‘Burn Me Again in the’ Pitts ‘of h#!!’ train.”
  • By Tuesday, I almost cut Pitts for Fanny.
  • Wednesday rolled around, someone else scooped up Fanny, and I was crushed.
  • Saw another manager cut Gadsen for Fanny Pack. Considered grabbing Gadsen… until I checked his stats (ugly).
In the end, I stuck with Pitts. And thank goodness I did otherwise I’d be regretting it in the worst way.

Really bad look? I’m saying to take advantage of the big game instead of getting swept up by it but you do you.

Two concerns I have on Pitts next year.

1. He's benefiting greatly from London being out. London was the #1 overall WR in fantasy from weeks 4 until he got hurt, and likely only started slow because of an injury. So not only is London being out a benefit but it's a sign this offense will funnel targets to their top pass catchers.

2. I posted sometime last year, I think in this thread, so not new but I've long questioned PItt's real love or enthusiasm for the game. People can say that's no big deal and maybe so but when I see him starting to play his best ball near the end of his contract it makes me a little uneasy about what we get if/when he gets a multi-year extension. I feel like a lot of people question a guy like George PIckens and his effort and love for the game and frankly the competitive intensity between the two of them seems kind of night and day to me. George>Pitts in that regard.

I will not disagree with any argument or discussion about his natural talent, youth and overall ability if he cares enough and is in the right situation to be a massive big time stud. All that is in him.

i already said if i got a stupid high offer is take it. I just don’t see the point of projecting doom and gloom after a big game by a given player. Comes off as haterade; but hey “you do you”.

Cousins was his QB last year and in their 14 games together, Pitts had 9 games of 3 catches or less.
That was last year.
And London was healthy. As was Mooney who was a viable fantasy WR last year but is way down across the board this year. If London was healthy I do question if Cousins would even be looking Pitts way nearly as much as he has but London went down at the same time that Penix did then Cousins took over.
So you’re just going to leap to the conclusion that it’s a stone cold lock that Pitts still sucks and this was a fluke?

Have fun with that. Seems weird crapping on a guy who just put up 45 in PPR and 62 in TEP.

It’s been years coming - just let us enjoy this. There’ll be time to crap on Pitts after the magic wears off, i promise.

lol
Whoops, didn't mean to give you that impression as I am a Pitts owner and fan. I just meant he didn't get as many targets last year partially due to more competition for the ball compared to now so Lehigh's stat of only 3 or less receptions in 9 games isn't really applicable to this stretch of games. Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant to be agreeing with you

wouldn’t it then stand to reason that London and Pitts would continue to be targeted, since he’s now established pretty firmly that he’s a top pass catcher?

Plus Pitts is a pending FA and may well be targeted by a different QB next year.

I think a lot of Pitts future is TBD, but he flashed rare ability to 1. Get open at will, even when he was the only viable target. And 2. Make crazy contested catches and being a mismatch nightmare on smaller safeties and LB.

And that’s how he was projected when he came into the NFL, so I don’t think any of that was a fluke.

IMO, how much he continues to develop will depend on where he plays, and where he is in the pecking order of that team. We’ve seen his lack of productivity when he isn’t targeted. We’ve also seen what he could do when he was hyper targeted in his rookie season.

As for the rest of this year, I find it very hard to believe they’ll just ignore him when London comes back. But I also don’t believe he’s going to put up 11/160/3 again any time soon. But then, I don’t think even the most die-hard Pitts believer expects that to happen anyways so…

Look, if he averages 6/80/.5 the rest of the FF playoffs I think anyone who rosters him would be psyched with that production in any format. TD-dependent TE1-2.

Next year is next year. Very much TBD.

It just seems like he’s damned if he does or doesn’t to the anti-Pitts crowd. If he has a bad game, well he’s been a bust, so there. But if he has a great game it’s gotta be a fluke and welcome to the Lucy with the football, what a fool yall are for believing in Pitts. Damned if ya do or don’t.

It’s off-putting an IMO lacks critical analysis. No one truly knows what Pitts future looks like. But we’ve now seen a glaring example of a ceiling no one thought he had.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the franchise tag is “potentially” in play for Falcons TE Kyle Pitts at the end of the year.
Pitts is in the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. Last night, he caught 11-of-12 targets for 166 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons’ Thursday Night Football victory over the Buccaneers. Before the game, Falcons owner Arthur Blank reportedly visited the NFL Network’s pre-game broadcast set. Rapoport followed up the visit with a televised report saying Blank will “evaluate” all football operations after the season. Although head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot may end up being let go, Pitts may have played his way into a new contract, or at least a one-year deal on the lucrative franchise tag. Rapoport notes, though, that Pitts’ agent, David Mulugheta, “hates the franchise tag” and could play hardball in pursuit of a long-term deal. Stay tuned.

I think someone earlier mentioned he might revert to the mean with 5-55 or something this coming week, that's a pretty solid day for most TE's! It's not outstanding but I'd take it and I think he has upside for a lot more if London sits again. Prorate that out for a full year and it would have been good for TE7 even with zero TD's. And ironically 5-55 is almost the exact same stats that both Ferguson & McBride put up last week.

Tag makes some sense for the team financially speaking, RB is the only other position with a lower avg salary amount. I think $14MM for TE and $12MM for RB. McBride currently has the highest TE contract at a $19MM avg over 4 years and $32MM fully guaranteed as a ballpark gauge of what Pitts might be looking for.

If he hates it and sits out, that’s gonna be a mess. I’m hoping we can avoid any type of dispute.
