TE Oronde Gadsden II, LAC (7 Viewers)

Ugh had this guy stashed on my “TE collection team” only to drop him for Jatavion Sanders the one week he showed promise.

Gadsden activated the next game and scooped up.

What makes it 1000x worse the guy that got him also got Kraft and Otton last year week 1 bc I also dropped those guys.

Drafted him in the 4th round of the rookie drafts in both my leagues. I'm kicking myself for starting him in only one league this week. I just wanted to see another week. I had to start him in the league that I did due to injuries. Very happy with what I'm seeing. He is getting open even when the ball is not going to him. He moves differently. He looks bigger than when he was at the "Cuse". He finds open spots while moving and works the seams so well. I hope he stays healthy. He had some injury history at Syracuse.
 
Started him over Hockenson in the league I got him for $11 FAAB, along with McConkey -- liking their production, but as a Viking fan, I'm not happy with the game so far...
 
Three weeks of good production—I think that is enough to be pretty happy. Shutout so far in the second half, though. Herbert is spreading the ball around.
 
Excited to have picked him up for nothing and started him this week, but not completely sold on sure TE1. They aren't going to throw anywhere near the 55 times they did last week. Tonight was less than half that and is more in line with Harbaugh and his run-heavy offense. Tonight's line is much more likely and could have easily been 4/37 instead of 5/77. Still like him better than Fannin not as a player but because of his situation with a good QB and not Cleveland in general. Just trying to have realistic expectations.

Jake Ferguson is the #1 TE in .5 PPR. In 3 of his 7 games, he has fewer than 37 receiving yards, and an average of 5 catches in those games.

McBride and Warren, the #2 and #3 TEs, both have two games in the low 40s for rec yards.

Obviously we don't know what Gadsden is in full, but not sure I'd penalize him for a (theoretical) game like this.
 
This has been a heck of a good mid-season run. He's averaging 23.13 points over his last three games in a 1.5 points per catch TE Premium league. You'd take that with your 1.01 rookie pick.

This was free so I don't think they'll mind if I pretty much reprint it. This is Nathan Jahnke of Pro Football Focus, or PFF.

"Oronde Gadsden’s role keeps increasing: Anyone who picked up Gadsden off the waiver wire this week had an immediate return on their investment.

Gadsden started the season as a healthy inactive for Los Angeles. An injury to Will Dissly led Gadsden to play more, and his role in the Chargers offense has increased each game. Last week, he played over 80% of the snaps in single-tight-end snaps on early downs, single-tight-end snaps on late downs and two-tight-end sets. This led him to catch seven passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, the most receiving yards by a tight end in a game this season. The main situation where he was not on the field was 10 personnel.

This week, he was more consistently on the field on third downs, as well as two two-tight-end sets. Los Angeles used 10 personnel on 31 plays over the first three weeks because it didn’t have a receiving threat at tight end. The Chargers only used 10 personnel on 14 plays over the previous four weeks. They didn’t find a need for it in this game and might not use it the rest of the season unless Gadsden needs a rest. He played 87% of the Chargers' offensive snaps over the first three quarters, but he wasn’t kept on the field as frequently in the fourth quarter because they ran out the clock in their blowout victory.

The main time he was off the field in this game was 21 personnel, where the Chargers typically ran the ball with Scott Matlock and Tucker Fisk as blockers. This meant Gadsden was running a route on the vast majority of the Chargers' pass plays, at a higher rate than we’ve seen by any Chargers tight end since Greg Roman became the offensive coordinator.

While there have been plenty of young waiver-wire targets at tight end who have put together a strong week or two, there are no concerns about Gadsden’s role or the offense he plays in. He can be in fantasy starting lineups going forward. Anyone who picked up Gadsden as a bye week replacement for Trey McBride, Brock Bowers or Sam LaPorta should look to trade one of the two tight ends." - Nathan Jahnke, 10/23/25

The opposite argument could easily be made. He put up 5/77 with a TD in the first half. The game was a blowout and no need to pass in the second half. Could have been much much better numbers if the game was competitive. I'm not sure Harbaugh is as run-heavy this year. Haven't really looked at the numbers though.
 
Only one share, but oh what a share it is in a slight TE premium league (1.25) 14 teamer that has underperformed so far. I believe I made a statement about how many mouths there are to feed for the Chargers, but I'm starting to think it doesn't matter if they are going to to utilize the TE position the way they are doing. I traded for him back in August by giving Jaylin Lane and a 3rd. It's starting to look like a pretty good trade. I wish I had more than just one share, but I'll take it.
 
I started him over George kittle this week :)
Mostly because of Deandre swift is out, I’ll probably have to start kittle at flex due to bye weeks, Ridley stinking, and having no faith in Keon Coleman.

"Have to start Kittle"? Think about that for a moment. I wouldn't let his usage in his first game back last week deter me going forward.
 
Is this guy a big sell-high (given their offense could change again) to a TE-needy team or someone to hold onto? I ask because as a McBride shareholder, I didn't expect to have WDIS questions moving forward but this guy's role has ballooned and it's a good offense. I fear Murray's return.

****. I went over this in my head a bunch and I really don't know. I don't trust TEs other than their current situation. It, to me, is coach-dependent, scheme-dependent, and talent-dependent (I mean dependent upon the talent of the other players on the offense—that determines the TE role and scoring). I freaking hate TEs in fantasy. I won't BS. I don't like RBs, either. I don't like LBs in IDP. DBs are expendable also, and DEs and DTs have to avoid double teams and that's not a function of anything but coaching choice and being too good at what you do.

I think the only thing in FF that isn't totally conditional is WR and even that has a metric ****-ton of variance year to year and game to game. I'm actually in a good mood but you fouled it all up bringing up TEs in our "I see that we have a scarcity of six elite items out of thirty. Why don't we make those items into an even more scarce item by giving it a premium! Brilliant!" world we're living in.

That's actually exactly what I was getting at, only I was getting at it more generally than, "Should I trade Player A and why and for what?"

It's really the same thing.

The bolded is really simple. People's "solution" to the dearth of "good" TEs, or the solution to the conundrum that there are only six-nine worthwhile ones, is to increase the value of the very measure that most of them lack and only a few possess?

Targets are the things that are earned in FF. Routes are the opportunity and it takes skill to earn targets. Catching is a skill also, but that first crucial skill is to get the quarterback to throw you the ball because you got open. Most TEs don't earn targets, so we decided to solve the problem of talent scarcity at the position by increasing the value of the thing that only about nine of them possess? Makes no sense. It just warps the market further. The six-nine just become prohibitively expensive rather than giving all of them a new distribution of worth. Heh. It's the worst solution you could think of to solve the problem.

Typing it and seeing it (I was a terrible econ major, but one nonetheless) has me giving the gasface in disbelief. Is this hubris on my part? I'm almost positive I am not the first to think of this. I can't be.

Same here; McBride and Gadsden. My plan was pick up for the one week and dump him back. Now I need to trade one of them. I’m considering McBride since his value would be a lot higher.

Very pleased playing O in some of the leagues I needed to gamble while keeping Kittle in some where I feel like I needed a floor.

GG. Same here in majority of my leagues except ones where I felt like I needed at least a small floor and the ones where I have Warren.

Entering the game last night, the Chargers had the most pass attempts in the league. However, they were 28th in attempts in 2024.
 
Absolutely sick that I drafted him in the 5th round of our rookie draft, but then dumped him around Week 2. Made a trade during week 1 and acquired Kraft so that gave me Kraft, Hockenson, Ferguson, Engram, & Gadsden. Figured there was no need for a rookie TE5 that'll just clog my roster for two years so I dumped him for Browning after Burrow went down. Of course the reigning champ scooped him up the following week for $3 FAAB and beat my *** with him last week.
