Teams publically stating they’re sitting key starter in week 18 (1 Viewer)

Can homers or others in the know please report here when coaches says they’ll be resting starters.

Will help those of us in pick ‘em pools to not just pick the “better” team in this final week of the season.

Thanks.

For the life of me I don’t understand how any league can have their championship game in week 18.
Agreed. None of mine do. Just a pick em pool that I wanted info on.
I have 1 league does a points based thing, where there are no weekly opponents or wins/losses, its just points cumulating. That runs through the Super Bowl, so there is some incentive to have players on good teams as well as having to deal with players resting for those playoff games. Its an extra bit of strategy that is pretty fun I think. but also pretty unique I'd imagine.

As an aside, I don't get why the Rams are sitting guys. I think the difference between the #3 seed and #4 seed is massive. I'd REALLY want to avoid the loser of Lions/Vikings if I could.

Saquon nightmares for McVay

My main league is also a total points league with no head to head - runs through week 18.

This. We do have head to head, but no one really cares because the payout is getting your entry fee back. The big money is total points, with winner getting 50%, 2nd place 30% and 3rd 20%. Some grouse about it, and it definitely makes things more challenging in the final weeks. When the NFL stops playing football that counts in the standings in Week 18, so will our fantasy league.

I understand we are in the significant (and much mocked) minority, but it's worked for us for 35 years

Every offseason there is some discussion about total points versus HTH leagues. Total points detractors point to lower excitement and bad teams losing interest earlier, which I understand. But we like the idea of the best team all season, rather than a hot/lucky team in the playoffs, winning it all.

I like FFPC’s championship game format where the final 4 teams all play a total points matchup over weeks 16 and 17 to determine the final 4 finishers. Doesn’t totally remove luck of course but can diffuse a lucky spike across 2 weeks instead of one.

Dynasty owners love this week. Some scrub gets a 60 yard TD on a busted coverage and some bozos drop a Benson or Burton type to pick him up.

Agreed. I couldn't imagine a scenario where Saquon Barkley anchors your championship run and then he's not available for the actual championship game? 😬

Our league has played a "golf tournament" last week of the season for several years now. Its a redraft, we dump our studs for duds and try to get the lowest score. Serious points penalties (add ons) for guys that score zero though so... harder than it sounds.

That's an interesting premise - I like it. Keeps people from drafting guys like Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith, etc. to get zeros.

Chiefs are sitting:

Mahomes
Kelce
Pacheco
K Hunt

From an article from the Chiefs beat writer on The Athletic. Behind a paywall.

From what I've read (same article) Hopkins is expected to play (incentives in his contract in play apparently)

Should we expect either Carson Steele or Samaje Perine, or perhaps both, to carry the load then?

ETA: just realized Perine is in a revenge game here.

Exactly. Otherwise, as you said, we would all tie at zero. These are the penalties for a goose egg:
**QB scoring zero (0) is... +22 pts
**RB scoring zero (0) is... +16 pts
**WR scoring zero (0) is... +16 pts
**TE scoring zero (0) is... +16 pts
**PK scoring zero (0) is... +10 pts

The other tricky part is picking up guys that go for 5-6 weeks averaging 2-3 pts/gm and suddenly become superstars in a meaningless game. Almost every year we get a John Daly award winner that goes over 100.

It's a lot of fun after a season of intense competition. This will be our 17th time out so there's a fair amount of history and jokes that go along with it at this point.

Yeah, I would expect both. My guess would be more Steele since Perine has a pretty big role in the normal offense.

Good point - maybe Reid gives him a chance to knock his previous team out if that is even a consideration

I imagine Houston is benching everyone possible. They're locked into the 4.
I did read in an article and hear on the BS podcast that the Texans may play starters to find a rhythm. Do this mean they may more than a couple of good series? I don't know.

Also, I imagine Tennessee management doesn't want to win either. Plus, the Titans have been abysmal this year and are about to set a record for the worst season ever in terms of outcomes against the spread (they are currently 2-14).

In short, I have no idea what to make of this game from a fantasy or betting standpoint.
