Tebow and drafting for sales (1 Viewer)

"The game" isn't charging $160 for autographs. Tim Tebow is.
...and he is using most of the money (again, there are costs for these events) to help people with his foundation he is starting. Fans are willingly giving him money in these appearances to get his autograph and help others in the process. Why is this so bad?

I figure for 160, you'd better have a purpose with that autograph you're about to receive. A signed ball put away in some cabinet, sell on e-bay etc.
 I thought it was a pretty cheap ticket to heaven when I plunked down the $160.

A. I never said his way of life or any way of life was ludicrous. I was only pointing out that the notion of good deeds needing to come from a place of religious faith was ludicrous. There are good people doing nice things in any sect of our society and they come from all religions and spiritual beliefs, or non-beliefs.
This is what you said:
I too am an Atheist so in general the notion that good deeds come from a place of religious faith is a pretty ludicrous philosophy IMO
You didn't say NEED. You said that the idea they came from a place of faith was ludicrous. It reads as if the fact that someone believes their good deeds come from their faith is ridiculous and you can't understand why anyone would believe it. I'm not even an organized religion guy and I find that a bit rude and dissmissive.

Now, maybe you meant to put NEED in there but you didn't say that. You said the notion that good deeds come from faith is ridiculous - so that's what I reacted to.

If you meant something else, it was very unclear from what you actually wrote. So if we're misunderstanding each other here, then cool - we've just worked that out. Water under the bridge and all that.

No, good deeds don't NEED to come from a place of faith. Doing good or evil can happen for multiple reasons based on a ton of widely ranged motivations that can have everything or nothing to do with religion.

So I think, misunderstanding aside, it doesnt sound like we're that far apart in general.

As for the second part, maybe I was mixing you up with another poster. In which case, sorry.

"Is that Tim Tebow, Dad?"

"Yes, it is."

"I like him a lot, Dad."

"So do I, son."

"Can I get his autograph, Dad?"

"Only if you have $160, son."

"Why does it cost $160, Dad?"
Because the market dictates the price of autographs, son. This is your first lesson in basic economics.Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Actually Palm Beach Autographs is, but you just keep typing.

A friend of mine here in Atlanta (big Bulldog fan) said his church hired Tebow to speak at Sunday mass and it's costing them $2,000.

Then again, most of the big churches here in Atlanta have million dollar sound systems, public TV broadcasts and are very competitive with other churches with regards to amenities and fund-raising.
