Sickening. Just starting to break all over

Wow. The Yanks have certainly made a splash this year.
They had a ton of $$ coming off the books this off season, some 88 million worth
:rolleyes:Yeah, I guess their payroll must be near the bottom of the league now. They have the 4 highest paid guys in the league all on their team. And it's not like they're paying minimum wage to the rest of their payroll. This is why I don't care about baseball anymore.

as a non baseball fan(never been one my whole life) how in the world can true fans "stand" this?

Its like the games are rigged but its legal.

This just in . . . .

The Yankees just signed Manny Ramirez - 6 years 150 million.

He'll be the part time DH against lefties.

People are funny. Why would anyone stop watching baseball because the Yankees spend lots of money?

The Yankees haven't won a WS since 2000. Know what they've been doing since then? Spending a ####load of money.

That's the age old debate. The Yankees can sign whomever they want, whenever they want but it's within the ruleset. There's nothing else real fans of baseball can do.

The Yankees have to actually WIN the title first.

Teix is a malcontent anyway. I wonder what effect he'll have on the clubhouse when he starts #####ing.

$30M for ARod

$25M for Teix

$23M for CC

$22M for Jeter

$18M for Burnett

$118M for 5 players

Over $400 million committed to 3 players this offseason (CC, Tex and Burnett). Crazy.

Did I say they had a low payroll? I was explaining one of the things that is enabling them to spend this much $$ this offseason. Had they not cleared that much payroll space they almost certainly would not have been able to sign Teixeira, Burnett and Sabathia

How are the games rigged?
Not rigged but to know that only like 5-6 teams can win the world series is a bit depressing.
Tell that to the Rays, who almost won the WS last year with a bottom-of-the-barrel payroll.Meanwhile, the Yankees didn't even make the playoffs this year. Again, grovel and ##### when they actually do something in the postseason.

Here are the most recent world series matchups:PHI over TBBOS over COLSTL over DETCHW over HOUBOS over STLFLA over NYYANA over SFAZ over NYYYup. Only a couple teams even have a shot.

How does any real Yankee fan root for a team like this? Its just so corporate. So stupid

this is really pretty inaccurate
Everyone has a chance any given year. The money differences allow certain teams to be contenders year after year no matter how poorly they draft while teams like the Twins, Rays, and Marlins (along with the Pirates, Royals, and Reds) have to consistently scout and draft extremely well to have a chance to contend. It isn't "fair" but it does make what the Twins have done the last decade and what the Rays are building all that more impressive.

Please sit back and realize that this is how it's always been. They bought Babe Ruth because they couldThe days before free agency, the 40's, 50's and 60's the Yankees spent more money than everyone else scouting and develpoing players, because they could.Today they buy players via free agency, because they can. It's really no differet now than it was 90 years ago. They went out and spent the money to find the best players. If there was another team looking to sign the player they had interest in, they just offered him more.

I don't care how much the Yanks spend. Tampa and Boston have pretty good teams who compete at an extemely high intensity level. I'm not ready to name ny as the favorite in the al east just yet.

I hear a lot less celebration/glee from Yankee fans than I expected...and a lot less...anything from Sox fans.

Everyone just seems kinda stunned.

Talk about raising expectations this year in New York.

:goodposting: Do people think they scouted all over Maryland, San Francisco, and Oklahoma to come up with Ruth, DiMaggio, and Mantle? Do they think Reggie was a Yankee farmhand? They've always been the big bad Yankees with full pockets, all started with Jacob Ruppert building Yankee Stadium and turning his baseball team into a major money-maker. It's just mushroomed since that time. I'm reading a book now about Lou Gehrig that said in 1927 he earned $25,000 and Ruth made $70,000. Those were two of the highest salaries in the league, with Ruth earning more than twice as much as the next-best guy.Obviously the new stadium deal is giving the Yankees even deeper pockets so they can afford an even greater luxury tax, and the Steinbrenner sons are apparently as committed to going balls to the wall for the best players as the old man. :bs:

It's entertainment...I'm a huge proponent for Salary caps in sports. But, MLB is what it is - You decide to watch or not.... No surprises really. Hpw can a real fan NOT root for the team they bleed the colors of?Hey, there's teams with advantages in College sports, there's teams and players with advantages in the Olympics - We all root for U S A for the most part.....1996 was practically a religeous experience for me Being At Game 6 after a long long wait between Championships and being young for the last one...YES... It's less exciting after the 1st few Championships (i'd say that goes for all fans - even Pats) and YES, the Cap takes some of the fun away... But, the whining fans and the fans who create rivalry's by paying so much attention to the Yankees and Hating so much helps keep it interesting...In the end it comes down to Pitcher Vs batter.Yes, I feel bad for most MLB fans like KC who have little shot... I admit it, if I lived in KC I migth not watch MLB - It's tough for me to watch Hockey being an Islander fan - But, i stick it out.Bottom line it's entertainment...And what could be more entertaining that THIS?

Happy? AbsolutelyBut this guarantees NOTHING

The Yankees still have questions at the back end of their rotation's, the bullpen in front of Mariano, a statue at SS who has no power anymore, an ancient catcher coming off major injury and a bunch of young players who haven';t really shown or proven anything yet

Plus Burnett is an arm injury away from being Carl Pavano 2.0

I think this was a great signing as the Yanks offense really needed a boost, especially losing Abreu and Giambi

But anyone thinking this guarantees something is just flat out wrong IMO
