Tennis - Sinner accepts three month ban - won't miss Roland Garros (1 Viewer)

Assuming they do mean only won the US Open (I can't tell if they mean two people or one with the doubles win), seems the list would be Roddick, Del Potro, Cilic, Stosur, Pennetta. Everyone else in the recent past has won at a second location.

She is Italian. (seems this is coming from Russia or Italy)

Still interesting and potential huge story (that I'm sure will be covered up or stowed away)

Unless a name like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Williams, Sharapova comes out, not sure why there would be a cover up. None of the five listed as possible are so big their groups would feel the need to protect them from suspension or ban imo.

Problem is all they have is stats. Guy goes to players hotel, gives bag of 50K, and the fix is in. Minimal people know and a player can always have an off day, just hit their serves a bit too long, leave too many balls in the middle of the court, hit too much to the other persons strengths.

I hate the Aussie Open.. as I always have. It's completely unwatchable for people with normal jobs in the US.

I've decided to pretty much pretend it doesn't exist unless Federer is in a SF or F.. then I'll make the sacrifice and wake up at 2 or 3 am or whatever.

F this tournament.

I'd sure like to see someone upset Djoker... but honestly I can't see very many scenarios where he doesn't win... he's not going to repeat 2015 IMO, but I suspect he picks up this tournament, finally gets his French.. and then I hope he starts breaking down and lets Federer get a Wimbledon and the Olympics

At least for me, Aussie is second easiest to watch after US Open. French and Wimbledon start while sleeping and continue through the work day. Personally I can stream radio and bits of TV at work but not really sit and watch a match. And Wimbledon has that stupid no middle Sunday play rule taking a full day away on a day I could watch.

I'm on the West coast and get home from work at about 4 which is when the Aussie starts up for the day until the later rounds. This whole week I can come home to 7-8 hours of tennis before sleep.

i could see where it would be easier on the west coast... but either way the premium matches like Federer are so late anyway.

I agree that the wimbledon middle sunday rule is beyond stupid.

But the am early times of the french (which is my least favorite major anyway) and wimbledon are easy for me to keep track of.

ESPN spending the start of their broadcast on this. Talking a lot about the lower levels. I'm curious at who bets challenger level events, seems much like betting preseason for the NBA, MLB, and NFL.

NM

Doesn't say it's a male necessarily. Female candidate would be Sam Stosur (also a Wimbledon doubles champ IIRC)
I watched Stosur's match last night. Horrific case of the yips on her home court. The sadder part may have been the home crowd not attempting to inject some life to help her out. And how in the hell did she beat Serena in any match, let alone the 2011 US Open Finals? Crazy.

I love the Aussie Open. I love all the Majors actually. Stayed awake until 4am last night watching here on the West Coast as well and will do so for the next two weeks.

Same goes for the British Open, albeit those times start in the early AM.

Don't know how much this has been covered.. but outside of some data from betting histories, what are we talking about here?

It seems like ESPN is trying hard to make this a story without a single shred of evidence aside from a match 8 years ago where Davydenko retired?

The Djokovich story is the worst of all I heard on the radio... he makes millions and is playing for millions, but the story is about him being offered $200k to throw a match? What?

it's the aussie open that airs at bizarre times... it gets horrible ratings.

They'll release any story that might get you to watch.

They also released a story about Maria Sharapova having someone else's panties in her laundry. http://www.espn.co.uk/tennis/aus16/story/_/id/14580147/australian-open-surprise-look-maria-sharapova-found-laundry

They are desperate to make it work

TSN is showing the Sock-Rosol match without commentary. I watched a Raonic match a couple years ago like this and really enjoyed it. Feels like a different perspective.

Have any of you ever been to the Australian Open, or any other tournament. Tennis seems to be becoming my favourite sport, and the AO seems like a great vacation, tennis watching opportunity. Weather sucks here is January, the dollar is not as big a deal(Canadian), and the GF would like the beaches. Any inside info about Melbourne, and previous experiences would be awesome. Also, any tennis watching info as well. Are outside courts first come first serve, how late can I buy tickets etc. All advice would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for the lack of question marks, stupid keyboard is stuck french mode again. Man I hate when this happens. èé

That's pretty much my same deal...

I was thinking about it last night while watching Joker...I really have a strong affinity for the Aussie Open. I assume it's because it fits right in my viewing schedule...along with a number of other reasons but the fact that I can watch it with little distraction is huge.

Guess if you are going to have a stinker of a match, today was the last time. Don't think he could win pulling that match off vs Kei, Fed, Murray, or Wawrinka.

Oof, woman Radwanska is playing is not at all attractive. Shocking she could be down a set to someone who seems so unfit. Barely looks like she can play the next point anytime she had the run back and forth the previous point.

Cramping is a mother****er to overcome. Not everybody can be Marcos Baghdatis when it hits.

She does look like she could handle herself in a bar fight.

She was huffing and puffing like a chain smoker early in the first set, I'm actually surprised she didn't get hit with them sooner, she seemed to be in horrible shape.

I felt bad for her after they hit as that stinks for anyone.

Amazing that Federer has made a third consecutive sf. His play has been very consistent since grass season last year.

I was hoping djoker would get upset at some long because

I can't see him taking more than a set off nole, and this sf is probably the de facto title game. I haven't watched Murray, but I d doubt he could beat either guy

Murray is playing really well so far, his ceiling is certainly better than winning a set
I agree his ceiling is definitely higher than that.

With the Djoker vs. Fed semifinal... I figure that if Roger couldn't beat Nole on Grass, or at the USO, that his odds of winning Thursday are probably no better than 1/4... it would take Nole having an off day like he had in the 4th round.

I'm pretty satisfied with the SF appearance really... and with Nadal losing in the first round, the tournament has been a real success.

Azarenka's scream is driving my dog crazy.

ETA: Apparently my wife too, because she just made me change the channel. That is one of the worst screams in tennis.

Federer looks like he wants to bite Djokovic's ear off. Playing very good this set and getting smashed.

I just woke up, turned it on, and turned it back off for bed.

Is Federer just at the point where he is jinxed by this guy like he was vs Nadal? I mean, Fed tears up the field only to have nothing in this match?

I didn't expect him to win, but I didn't expect him to get trashed either.

It's all about the return of serve.

I really think it's why Nadal had Fed's number for so long.

Joker is just EATING up Fed's serve...

Take away his serve and he's very human.

I'm approaching the point where I'd probably been happier if he'd lost to the bird man last round. I don't need to see these matches anymore.

It's looking as if joker is going to make a strong run at second best all time.

Fed

Pete

Laver

Ralph

Nole? And moving up. 15 slams seems reachable

Nole has a real opportunity to challenge Roger's slam record. Pretty light competition for him during this stretch of dominance though. Murray is very inconsistent, Nadal is washed up and his toughest competition is an over-the-hill Roger who turtles against him in best-of-5 matches.

Joker hasn't won the French has he?
