Terrell Owens (1 Viewer)

I have a question, especially for the Cowboys fans out there....

Do you think Terrell Owens has lost a step? I heard this critism of him last season, but there was so many variables and strange things going on. For instance, he didn't get along with Parcells, then he has the finger surgery, the aspirin OD, then they bench Bledsoe for Romo, and on and on.

I have little to no concern about the finger surgery, the back spasms, or this new coaches....but if he truely has lost something in his speed, route runnning etc., then I will be really concerned about taking him.

Your thoughts???

He led the league in td's and was the #2 wr despite all that you mentioned. He finished behind the other wr (Harrison) that's probably lost a few steps as well. I wouldn't be concerned, he'll probably end up 1st overall this year.

Terrell Owens is 33 going on 34 years old. It would be pretty ignorant to not acknowledge that in anyway. While he was very good last season he wasn't particularly dominant like he has been in the past. The touchdowns (13) were there but the yardage totals (1180) left me wanting a little more.

You have to wonder when a such a physical player wide receiver like TO who has been injured in the past will finally have all that stuff catch up to him. I probably wouldn't make too big of a deal about it right this season but it'd be pretty naive of me or anyone else to totally ignore it.

You know I really thought that he should have lost a step so I paid pretty close attention to his play last year. He didn't seem to have very good hands (broken finger??) but his route running, speed and YAC seemed to still be superb. If you watch the Atlanta game from last year (the one where he spat in hall's face) you'll see what I mean. He looked like a freak of nature. He only had 70 (roughly) yards but had an awesome one hand catch for a td and flat out blew by Hall for another td. That game answered all of my questions. I tried to trade for him in the offseason but wasn't able to. I would expect that, if he stays healthy(mentally and physically) he will be the top receiver this year, at age 34. Just my .02

TO is still a physical specimen unlike any other WR, but he isn't the same as he was in his SF days. His raw speed and strength made defenders look ridiculous and Jeff Garcia look like one of the best QB's ever. But even having "lost a step", I'd say he's still a step ahead of the rest of the competition, physically speaking.

Last year was a bad indication of his talent level. This year they are moving him to all receiving spots...both outsides and in the slot. He will also be running more shorter slant routes, thus putting his greatest attribute to work...yards after catch.

No, don't worry. IMHO, the spasms were just to keep him out of practice and it didn't come from T.O. He's been working pretty hard with some of the other receivers. Glenn, I'm worried about...........grab one of the young receivers today, if you can.

While I think Owens will have a good year this season, his age is gonna catch up with him. It's unavoidable and it's coming soon. WRs drop off fast around 34.

Someone posted in another thread statistics of WRs after certain ages. It was something like only 6 WRs over 33 have ever had more than 1000 yards. And only 4 WRs over 33 have ever had more than 10 TDs. Can someone find/repost that info in this thread?

I agree that Owens is a phsyical freak, but his time in the NFL is running out. Trade high in dynasty.

Yes he has but the reason he's so good is his size/strength and how he always positions his body between the defender and the ball.

Owens keeps his body in top shape and in the off season he works harder then any other player in the NFL. The man came back from a broken ankle in record time. Normally I would agree that WR's drop off fast around 34 but TO is not normal he still has 3-4 dominant years left before we see a drop off.

Last season, some brave souls asked the same question about Shaun Alexander (who was coming off a monster year) and many of the responses were similarly sarcastic and condescending. As it turns out, it was a fair question.

Regarding TO, I watched him pretty closely last season and he looked ok to me. Hes still got great speed with his long strides and creates the necessary seperation. He put up some impressive numbers despite missing some time due to injury and working through a QB change. Id be more concerned that theres a new coaching staff and wonder if his role in the offense might change. If youre ok with that, then I wouldnt hesitate to draft him in rd two.

Garcia looked pretty good last year sans TO.

I went to Cowboys camp Sat., Sun, and Monday. TO only practiced on Sat. He got pass after pass thrown to him. The only time Romo completed them is when they were doing 1 on 1 routes on the side. TO did not look as fast as he did in past, and he was running hard. However, Romo will throw him so many balls that it won't matter. He will get his. He demands it. I can tell you this, the Cowboy fans love him. Practice on Saturday had a buzz, TO was there, and anytime he did anything 10,000 fans went crazy. On Sunday he was not there and there was not the same buzz. I am from PA and was visiting family in San Antonio, and was once a Cowboy fan before fantasy football ruined me, so I am not a biased cowboys die hard.

On a side note Romo did not look good any day. He struggled to see over the line during team drills, but he was only working with Crayton. When Glenn and TO are there I am sure it will spread things out more.
