Some air goes out of the Foster balloon...
Bump Foster up a notch on this news
That's funny. Some air goes out of the Foster balloon...
Watched a bunch of the Bucs last year, and preseason games. Ward sucks. If you have a roster spot run and get him really quick and try to trade him to the frantic paniced Foster owner. Otherwise he is worthless. Some air goes out of the Foster balloon...I was thinking the same. The big issue is that Ward is not in football shape. But if gets in shape, which he should, he will cut into Foster's numbers. Good move by the Texans.
Yeah, cause a guy who signs a big contract for a new team (TB) and immediately starts to let himself go and get lazy is gonna become a workout warrior and have an impact role while learning a new system a week before the season opener.I can see the logic here. Some air goes out of the Foster balloon...I was thinking the same. Please. A guy that gets cut from a team with nothing but a used Caddy and a 2nd year UDFA from Hofstra isn't much to worry about. Some air goes out of the Foster balloon...
>implying ward is good enough to split carries with FosterSome air goes out of the Foster balloon...
Only if a hot dog cart happens to pass by on the street.Who thinks Ward will be on the street again in two weeks?
That's a strong possibility.Only if a hot dog cart happens to pass by on the street.Who thinks Ward will be on the street again in two weeks?
That's some good bait. Subtle yet effectiveSome air goes out of the Foster balloon...
The Texans waived running back Jeremiah Johnson, their second-leading rusher in preseason who suffered a dislocated toe in Thursday’s 24-17 loss to Tampa Bay. They will reach an injury settlement with him and could bring him back to the practice squad.
Si, correcto. Topic closed.Ward wasn't signed to curtail Foster's opportunities, he was signed because both Jeremiah Johnson and Steve Slaton are injured and not guaranteed to play in Week One.

I posted this in the TExans pre-season threadI am reading this as roster manipulation. Johnson's injury is not season ending, so a 2nd IR for him would not make sense. At the same time, I don't think he is eligible to go on PUP. the alternative is to reach an "injury settlement" i.e. pay him not to sign with another team and cut him with Johnson's promise not to sign with another team. The Texans will put him on the practice squad and in some combination of when he is healthy/they need him, I expect that Johnson will show up on the regular roster. We will find out on Sunday if my guesstimation is right. From John McClain in the Houston Chronicle:

Everyone defending Foster has to remember one thing: he has never been "the guy" in the NFL before. He's obviously shown the coaches something, but he has risen up draft boards over the past month largely because of the lack of alternatives in Houston. Tate is out for the year. Slaton has fallen into disfavor with the coaches for a number of reasons, but a big one is ball security. Johnson is also injured. Ward, if nothing else, represents a veteran option that Kubiak can trust not to fumble the football. Once Ward gets the hang of the offense I could see him getting 5-10 carries a game, which would certainly eat into Foster's numbers.Ward couldn't beat out a no-name Kareem Huggins, all of a sudden he's threatening Arian Foster's carries?
Derrick Ward was exposed. He ran behind a great line with the Giants, when everybody was getting 5 YPC. He just ain't that good. I drafted him late last year and he did zip, nada, nothing. Foster will need a breather at some point. But in no way does this have any impact on the number of carries he was going to get anyway. DWard. I caught McClain on 610 and he was indicating something along those lines. That the move is to avoid having his salary for the year be guaranteed by being on the roster at the start of the season, and they'd look to pick him back up when he's healthy. Not sure if they'll do practice squad as soon as they can, or wait until he's healthy and either do practice squad then, or put him on the regular roster.I posted this in the TExans pre-season threadI am reading this as roster manipulation. For a guy with nothing left in the tank, it's surprising that four to five teams wanted to sign him after he was cut. Just saying...Derrick Ward was exposed.
